Let us take a moment to set the scene. The year is 1692, where toujours pur is the motto of nearly every household in Britain and the muddied, an earlier term for mudblood, often disguise themselves as half-bloods. Flash to the other side of the globe and the Salem witch trials of the United States have just begun, slaughtering innocent people left and right. But honestly ... who really gives a damn about what's happening in America when Britain has been suffering from harsher torment for hundreds of years? Insert the newest addition to the Ministry of Magic; the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy, ensuring the happiness and complete separation of muggles and wizards for centuries to come.
Now, don't let this confuse you; the Statue of Secrecy isn't widely accepted at first. On the contrary, the general consensus of this time period is that although the endless witch burnings need to be brought to a screeching halt, the solution is not through separation. This cluster of believers can be put into many distinct groups; the two largest we will discuss today - those who wish for peace between both the wizarding and muggle worlds and those who want them to coexist with wizards in absolute control. These beliefs coincide with two distinct political parties; Pax-Genis and Auctoritas.
"What is the point of the muddied if wizards can’t control them?"
See where we might have some tension among neighbors? Ha, and those are only the largest of the conflicting parties.
Unfortunately, the quarrel linking the wizarding world together isn’t contained just within political leaders. Alas, it’s spread to the naïve, hormonal idiots that grace the grounds of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Although the students should really just keep quietly to themselves and think about their betrothed and let their fathers do all the discussing, many are finding the means necessary to get their voices heard – in the sneakiest ways possible.
"Really, as though the students actually think they could contribute to worldly affairs."
Three of the soon to be most interesting figures to walk this earth think they can and have been working at it for a few months now. Introducing … the Peverell brothers. Antioch, Cadmus, and Ignotus have led a very separate life thus far, but their thirst – in varying areas – has brought their extremely different personalities together within the stone walls of Hogwarts to get their own opinions heard. The eldest, Antioch, wants power. He believes that muddied and magical folk should coexist but with key separation. He thinks that those underneath him in blood purity should be incredibly aware of magic and fear it. His nasty temper makes him one that’s difficult to please and even more difficult to go against. The youngest, Ignotus, considers ultimate peace to be the answer to everything. Being very brave, sneaky, and loyal, he and Antioch tend to clash heads often. Finally, Cadmus, the middle child and mediator of the two other brothers. He’s a very loving man, but his arrogance (sometimes without realizing it), coupled with his tendency to be a loner has caused him to become slightly socially awkward. It’s a shame … he’s so damn clever.
That said, all three wish to do something big, something that no one will ever forget. Just ... what can they do?
But we cannot forget the rest of the students, some of which are working just as hard to come up with a way to project their own ideas. The school's controversial newspaper, the HOGWARTS UNDERGROUND, is constantly being fought over for control. Oh and then there's the head boy and girl - completely neutral at the moment and in a place of power. No wonder people want to convert them to their belief systems!
Hogwarts is a place of progression, for the good and bad. Just remember not to get too caught up in all of it. After all, our goal in life isn't just to conquer, overcome, master, win, surpass, and excel, is it?
