it wasn't to happen like this. jude felt so sick. why did she even let herself fall for him again? no. no. she wasn't going to fall for him. jude was over zach. she was moving on. there was no chance in hell she was giving him another chance. there was no second try. that was one slip that she wasn't going to repeat. she had promised to meet garrett tonight. they were hanging out a lot more ever since that meeting in the psychiatrist's office. to be honest, he had really helped her through it all. garrett might not say much at times, but she knew he was listening and that was enough for her. he understood what it was like to be recovering from something, or at least she wanted to believe so. he knew what it was like to be the only one in a group who had to see a profesional because you couldn't quite figure ot how to take care of your own life. he was really supportive, even if he didn't try that hard. jude couldn't thank him enough. also, she might have developped a small crush on the boy. it had been scary at first, thinking she could like someone else whose name wasn't zach sullivan. but there was something about the way he looked at her that made jude smile. garrett was different, and that was exciting. she had been telling herself to take things slowly, but all that had been thrown out the window. she needed something to get her mind off her ex boyfriend, anything. if she had moved on, then why wasn't she taking the next step with garrett already? what was holding her back? jude figured she should simply jump in, because if she didn't, then zach would always have this hold over her. maybe if she started seeing someone else, she wouldn't rush back to her ex. she got off the subway at the right stop, walking up the street. she'd been to his place a few times, and the route to his house was now becoming familiar. she knocked on the door, waiting patiently for him to open.

REACH OUT, TOUCH SOMEONE

okay...so, this was unexpected. jude and garret? hanging out? something about that just sounded..weird. so many things about the two were so different. at times, they were complete opposites, but other times, they really were freakishly similar. the fact that they both attended psychiatric help was one of them. jude was also as hard headed as garrett as well. which made their disagreements pretty hilarious. they just wouldn't take no for an answer. during their first couple of moments of meeting each other, they didn't exactly get along...shit was flying until they decided to ditch out on their sessions and go to an old diner in the city. that definitely beat talking with doctor saunders. today, jude was supposed to be coming over to garrett's apartment for a bit to hang out. they've been doing that a lot lately. it helped that they understood what the other person was going through. trying to 'get better'. even though garrett felt like he was far from getting better any time soon. he still drank a lot and did his fair share of partying. it was sort of the only was for him to cope still. right now, he wasn't drunk or high though. well, not high from smoking anything if he was. it would only be from the paint fumes on his canvas. garrett knew that jude would be showing up soon, so he decided to start cleaning up the brushes. picking up the oil paints, he screwed the caps back on and tossed them into their proper spots. garrett may have been a guy, but he had always been a very clean one. messes made him feel uncomfortable and just annoyed. so there was no way that he could leave his art supplies lying around. that would screw up the brushes if he let the paint drying on them. in the midst of his washing off the brushes in the tiny kitchen, his train of thought was interrupted by a knock on the door. assuming that it was jude, he continued his chore and bellowed, "the door's open jude" and ran a couple of brushes under the running water.

i knoooow, it's such a fail...my house is waaay
too loud right now D:

she was a fool for doing this. truth be told, jude was so scared that she might fall for zach again that she needed someone to distract her. and garrett was probably the closest thing she had to a distraction right now. she knew it was wrong to simply try and make something happen because she didn't want to deal with her boyfriend, but maybe... maybe this is what she needed. this was the last step of moving on, right? giving someone new a try and finding happiness with someone else. when she heard his voice form the other side of the door, she grinned. walking in, jude dropped her bag by the door, making herself at home. "were you painting?" she asked, noticing the paintbrushes he was cleaning. "well, as long as you're not drinking." she said softly, shrugging. she didn't push him about the drinking issue, to be honest. jude really believed in letting someone recover in however long it took them. besides, garrett hadn't exactly given her a reason to worry. it's not like he would show up drunk all the time, or drove while intoxicated. the only times she saw him drink was when he drank with her, and she figured that was okay. she didn't really like thinking about him having a problem. besides, garrett was so sweet to her. he didn't seem like the kind of guy who would get lost with a bottle. sure, he was a lot more silent than most people, but she figured he was more of a thinker. "so, i was thinking, maybe we could go out to dinner later?" she asked, playing with his hair slightly. jude was purposely trying to be flirtatious, since she still didn't know how garrett fel about her. maybe she was standing closer than usual too.

REACH OUT, TOUCH SOMEONE

garrett stood in front of the sink as he continued to rinse out the dirty brushes. he added a little bit of dish soap to get the red color out. soon, the water was washing clear into the sink which told him that the paint brushes were now clean. the tall boy nodded approvingly at his job and placed them on a towel to dry on the counter. "were you painting?" the petite brunette inquired, entering the apartment. garrett nodded, "yeah, take a look.." he told her, pointing over to the wet canvas across the room. "it was from some picture that i saw a while ago." garrett told the girl standing before him. normally he wasn't so open to showing people what he painted, but he didn't feel apprehensive showing her. she already knew a lot more about him than most people. the fact that they were both 'recovering' gave them a good bond. they...understood each other. for the most part. so, why not show her a stupid painting? he ignored her comment about the not drinking. it sort of surprised him too, but today he actually didn't feel like drinking. which was a little crazy. maybe he was getting better quicker than he expected. what jude had done next wasn't really something that he was suspecting her to do next, as a matte of fact, it kind of took him aback. "so, i was thinking, maybe we could go out to dinner later?" the girl ran her fingers through his hair and brought her body a lot closer to his. so much closer that it would have made anyone question whether she was doing it in a 'just friends' kind of way. garrett didn't mind her acting like this in the least bit. jude was a good looking girl and someone that he was taking quite a liking to. even if he wasn't willing to admin it yet. both of them were just so...conflicted right now though. as she played with his hair and gave him that 'look', he licked his lips, smirking at her. "oh, okay.." garrett said, resisting to do anything that he would regret later. "well, there's this sushi bar type of place not too far from here that i think you might like. it's pretty low key and quaint but...cool. if you're into that kind of stuff." garrett never was much of a talker. but once he really got to know someone and find them worthy of a real conversation, he'd contribute. he was finally at that point with jude. also to the point where he'd be able to listen to her too. not put on the blinders once her mouth started to move. all up to you though." he told her, that smirk failing to wash away from his boyish features.

jude glanced at the canvas he had been painting on, sightly amazed for a moment. "sometimes i think i forget how talented you actually are." she admitted, leaning on the kitchen counter. "it's beautiful, garrett." she told him softly, smiling. he really hada special talent. jude could barely draw a stick figure without making it look deformed, and garrett could do amazing things with one paintbrush. she felt really happy about the fact that he was willing to show her his art. jude knew what it was like to be an artist, since she had been writing songs for a few months now. she understood how scary it could be to let someone take a look at what you could do, mainly because it was like showing them the most intimate part of yourself. jude saw the look her gave her. she was confusing him, since she'd never acted this way with him since they had met. to be honest, their relationship had simply been a friendship until now. she needed that to change. maybe she was throwing herself into something new too quickly, but she couldn't be single anymore. no. she needed some kind of reason to ignore zach. "that sounds perfect." she said with a grin, looking back into his eyes. "so it's a date." she added, trying to hint him about what she was thinking. she wasn't sure how to approach him since he had never been with a guy like garrett before. he wasn't like the high school boys she had dated. "i totally can't eat with chopsticks though. just a warning." she said, laughing slightly. "so uh, i kind of wanted to tell you something." jude looked over at him, sighing. she needed to tell him the truth, or else she would be stuck in the friends zone forever.

REACH OUT, TOUCH SOMEONE

"sometimes i think i forget how talented you actually are." that comment caused garrett to look down for a brief moment. if there was one thing that made garrett remotely shy, it was his art. he wasn't exactly the best at receiving compliments either, but he was pretty sure that jude wouldn't lie to him. or so he dearly hoped. "it's beautiful, garrett." the smallest of smiles managed to creep onto his normally rough features, but it was soon washed away as soon as it come. garrett bowed his head slightly and looked at the girl before him, "thanks, jude." he told her, placing the wet canvas against the wall so that it could air dry. the fumes in the apartment were actually starting to make him feel a little high - which wasn't something that he was going to complain about. that was one of the many things that he loved about painting. "it's just sort of something i whipped together last minute. some days i just get the itch to paint." a laugh slipped past his lips and he brought a paint stained hand to his hair. "are the fumes bugging you at all?" he inquired. before she could even respond to his question he marched over to the window and cracked it open. the last thing he needed was jude getting sick on him. "that sounds perfect." she said with a grin, looking back into his eyes. "so it's a date." he smirked at her emphasis on 'date'. okay, so, now he knew what she was thinking. and it surprisingly didn't bother him. at least she was...hot. even though he wasn't aware of the fact that she was jail bait for him right now. "i totally can't eat with chopsticks though. just a warning." garrett cocked an eye brow toward her, "i'll teach you." he stepped away from the window, "you'll be a professional when i'm done with you." laughed garrett, the way that he said it almost sounded..charming? "and if all else fails, you can look like a complete ass with a fork." he teased her with a wink. "so uh, i kind of wanted to tell you something." garrett turned toward jude, a curious expression adorning his features. by the way that she was suddenly acting, he thought that he may have had the slightest clue of what she was talking about. "and what's that?"

she liked it when he smiled. it was kind of like a tiny little moment that she felt no one else saw but her. it was hard to explain. but jude felt that garrett was so serious all the time, that if she could get him laughing, it would be a miracle. "eh. i get the itch to sing. we all have our new addiction, i guess?" she told him. it was sort of true. she was using music as therapy, and so far it was working. if she didn't have music anymore, jude might go slightly insane. she was so grateful that she had a way to actually talk about her emotions wihtout ever really talking about them. "nah, i'm cool. i think i've smoked worst in the past." she admitted, chuckling softly. she had kind of done it all by now. alcohol, drugs, prescription pills. all those things people experimented through their whole lives, she had managed to do from the moment she turned thirteen and had her first joint with james. and five years later, jude was trying to put that part of her life behind her. but at the same time, she still loved to take a little risk and do something she wasn't supposed to. it wasn't healthy, but it was fun. that's all she wanted right now. some fun. "you wouldn't let me look like an ass, would you?" she joked, laughing. "but fine. you can try and teach me." she told him, thinking it couldn't hurt to try. she'd eaten sushi in the past, but never with the chopsticks. it only made eating dinner an hour longer than normal. she couldn't help but smile when she saw his face so curious. he was kind of adorable when he had no idea what she was talking about. she could feel herself blushing and that almost made her want to slap herself. why was she suddenly acting like such a school girl with a crush? she was supposed to be mature, older. if she wanted garrett to keep thinking she was college freshmen, she would have to stop acting so high school. god, her age. she still hadn't mentioned that to him. it would come up... eventually. but jude hoped that wouldn't be for a while. "it's about you. and well, me. us. not that there's an us, but i just thought, maybe if you... you see, i kinda maybe... but i don't..." okay, now she felt ridiculous. she couldn't help it. whenever she looked at his face, she felt like her words suddenly disappeared. it's like she forgot how to speak english. so instead, jude did what she did best, and she acted instead of speaking. putting a hand behind his neck, she pulled him closer. she paused, almost as if asking for permission to kiss him. but it didn't take long until her lips were pressed against his. "i like you." she muttered softly after the kiss, feeling rather nervous and dizzy at the same time.
