the courtyard
a pretty little square in the center of the castle where students can hang out with their friends, first-years can play tag with each others, and so on...

the flower gardens
these gardens are mainly to create a pretty atmosphere, since the flowers here have little to no magical properties. a few benches have been placed beside the beds, inviting to sit and enjoy the ambience. feel free to pick some of the roses for your sweetheart.

lawns
the lawns are wide stretches of neatly mown grass. their purpose varies. flying as well as care of magical creatures lessons are held here, but so are balls and other things that need large spaces. mostly, the lawns are out of use though, and students are welcome to wander about freely.

greenhouses
this is where professor longbottom teaches herbology and where a huge assortment of plant and plantlike creatures are grown and tended to. it is not an unusual occurence for the greenhouses to be quite empty, as plants do not need to be pruned or watered 24/7, which makes this a nice and relaxed retreat.

quidditch pitch
quidditch at hogwarts is played in a large stadium with enough place to, theoretically, seat every single student. the house teams can hold practices here whenever they want, provided they get there before the other teams. still, as soon as it gets dark, you can expect the quidditch pitch to be quite deserted. many hopeful students who wish to audition for their team often train here in secret, where there is no one to laugh at them.

the lake
most of the time, its surface is flat and placid, though occasionally, sudden ripples appear; quite unnatural if one considers the number of creatures that inhabit its depths, the most famous one being the giant squid. still some brave students dare go for a swim. this is not recommended, but students are free to relax on the nearby field.

the forbidden forest
the forest gets its name because it is strictly off-limits to students, save when the occasional care of magial creatures lesson is held there, but even then: only under the supervision of a teacher. whatever wild and somewhat dangerous creature needs a place to live, it gets released into the forbidden forest. so if you do manage to sneak in somehow... beware.
