Justin Christian Kase -- senior - Heath Ledger [first name] [middle name] Miller – senior - Natalie Portman Parties, drinking, drugs. It’s the life of any self-respecting wealthy high schooler. Isn’t it? Well at least it was for Justin Kase and Colette Miller. They had been neighbors growing up and always were friends but instead of drifting apart as they got older they just became closer. That’s when high school came and even as just freshmen the two of them made a big impression right off the bat. Justin had everything working for him; he was outgoing, arrogant, cocky, good-looking and to top it all off was stinking rich. And then there was Colette who was just as well off. She was a beauty but enough of a bitch to make sure she got exactly what she wanted, and it never hurt that she always was an expert flirt with enough cash to back up her own arrogance. Together the two of them conquered the hierarchy of their school and everyone knew who they were for one reason or another.
Looking back on the memory of The dance we shared 'neath the stars above For a moment all the world was right How could I have known that you'd ever say goodbye
That is when they started getting invited to all the parties and they had members of the opposite sex just begging for their attentions. With all of this going on it didn’t take long for Justin to be seen as quite a player and Colette as somewhat of a slut but neither of these labels bothered the two. It was just another feather in their caps so to speak. They had each other and both knew that no matter what happened they would always have someone there for them, whether it was just a friend to go to the movies with, someone to lookout for you when the shit hits the fan or even a bedmate after an unsuccessful date.
And now I'm glad I didn't know The way it all would end, the way it all would go
But their lifestyles started to catch up with them. The constant partying, drinking, drug use and an utter disregard for anything academically related started becoming apparent to even their mostly absent parents. While the two just continued on with their lives their parents started paying closer attention and what they say didn’t sit too well with them but they didn’t know what to do about it. They didn’t have a clue the extent of the problems their children had they just knew something was going on.
This is where Justin makes the biggest mistake of his life. He gets caught completely wasted and Colette is dragged into the fray as well because the one thing that was known by all is how close the two were. Both sets of parents were appalled at the though their children were druggies and the like and quickly took steps to stop these actions. However Colette’s parents went one step farther and immediately sent the girl off to a very exclusive, very expensive rehab clinic. While Justin’s family opted for another option, moving away.
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain But I'd have had to miss the dance
Little did anyone know - except Colette - at this time is the condition she was in. Colette was pregnant, which she had known for a short time and had cut herself off from the harsh lifestyle of the booze and drugs, even if she didn’t stop going to the parties. She wanted nothing more than to keep this a secret from her parents but a secret such as that is not an easy one to keep when under constant watch and blood tests.
Once Colette’s parents discovered this fact they had a fit. There was no way they were going to allow their little girl ruin her life by having a child. Even worse was the fact that it was Justin’s and they blamed him for all their daughter’s problems. Her parents forced her to abort the child deaf to her screams of hatred and pleading.
Holding you, I held everything For a moment wasn't I a king But if I'd only known how the king would fall Hey who's to say? you know I might have changed it all
Then came the hardest blow for Colette. Once she was deemed "recovered" and allowed to leave her confinement she was planning on running into the arms of the one person she had been hoping for and thinking about the entire time. Justin. But he wasn’t there, he was nowhere. Her parents played dumb when she asked, even her other "friends" had no clue where the boy had gone. He had just disappeared, and in her mind he had abandoned her, left her to rot under the eye of her parents.
Now we come back to Justin. His sudden and forced move had done more damage than he ever though he could have taken. It made him realize just how important Colette had been to him. A great distance was building up between him and his parents; he hated them for taking him away from his old life, his love and best friend. And if he had only known the trouble she was in he would have loathed them even more.
And now I'm glad I didn't know The way it all would end the way it all would go Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain But I'd have had to miss the dance
What happens when Colette’s parents decide now that a move would help their little girl come around? Even better unknown to them all they pick the same exact small California town to move to as the Kase family did. How will the two families react when they discover this fact? What about Justin and Colette? Will she forgive him for "abandoning" her when she needed him the most?
Yes my life, it's better left to chance I could have missed the pain But I'd have had to miss the dance
