Roleplaying can be a lot of fun if you try and do it the right way. If you do your best to try to make each post help the story, push it forward and join in on developing it while trying to make sure that is looks and sounds good at the same time, that’s the right way as close as you can get to it on Sithspawn. Here are a few tips that should help you out.
Context Context is a very important thing when it comes to roleplaying on a forum like this. Even if it is your character, it doesn't make it based on you. That means, if your character sees someone, they won't just know their name, even though you can see their name clearly in their posts. Your character must find it out, by asking or investigating or something like that. The last thing is that if you walk into a bar, say, you won't instantly know what's going on. Your character has to learn, as well as you. You describe what your character sees, feels and how it interprets what it’s seeing. It can be wrong and right, depending on the experience the character has.
Replying If you are roleplaying with someone, try and keep up with it. Posting won’t be going as fast as lightning, as on Sithspawn we have a minimum word requirement of 300 words. Be patient with your fellow RPers, but know that if they leave you hanging for too long, you have every right to ask them to get a move on. Keep in mind that everyone has different situations in life, so patience is an important part of this.
OOC Chat in RP When you're roleplaying, please try and keep the OOC to a minimum, but if you do, put some sort of thing showing that it isn't part of the game. Like brackets: (( or [[ or something else of the sort. If you're in an RP area, don't go there for OOC. That's what the Cantina board is for; keep all OOC threads in there.
Interesting and Building Posts When your role playing, try and make your posts interesting and make sure to build onto the RP. Make your posts detailed, so that the other person involved stays interested. Describe what your character sees, feels and interprets. Internal monologue works fine as well. Make your character come alive through what you write.
