“Of course. […] Whatever we need to use to make this work, we’re going to do it.”
Pink lips quirked into a smile as the name of the Fleet Admiral’s flagship was mentioned. As a Jedi, she couldn’t help but feel a sort of… affinity? With the name of the vessel. A lot of the work members of the Order engaged in fit very much in the ‘knight errant’ role. I wonder if Admiral Darling selected the name itself, and if so what it indicates about his character.
“Of course, we would gladly take the advantage that might offer us. […] The less predictable we are, the better, and I’m certain they will be taken by surprise if we have Jedi in the air.”
Master Marin nodded in agreement. “Considering it’s been over a hundred years since we have fought so, I don’t see how else they could react.” Stealth technology of any sort appeared but rarely in the current period. Some forms of it had been lost, whereas others required on materials either exhausted or otherwise now unavailable. Prepping even a small ship so racked up quite the cost, one high enough even the Confederate military establishment couldn’t afford many such vessels.
To be fair, the StealthX managed to be so frustratingly difficult to detect based not on technology alone but also as a result of the sort of people who piloted them. Speaking of which… “I’ve brought along the specifications of our starfighters for you to review,” Shay said, a subtle smile the only response to the older man’s physical and mental expressions of eagerness. A quick flick of her wrist sent the datapad she’d retrieved from her robes sliding across the table's satin smooth surface towards Darling’s position.
“We’ll have to be careful in how we integrate our few squadrons with the Alliance fleet,” she continues. “It will be as hard for your people to see a StealthX as for the Confederates. Friendly fire could be a real possibility if we’re not careful.”
The Dolomarian’s posture shifted, her back coming to rest against the rear of the chair, her hands falling clasped into her lap. “As I said before, in order to remain undetected in combat, the comm systems can’t be used. We utilize forms of telepathy to coordinate our efforts. Therefore, we’ll have to station at least one Master on the fleet—the most probable location being with you on this flagship—to act as a relay between our forces and yours.”
When her smile returned this time, it was definitely self-deprecating. “As mentioned before, I don’t take much after my family.” In multiple senses of the word. “I’d appreciate it if you’d share your expertise on naval tactics with me, Fleet Admiral. I’d like to bring preliminary battle plans back to the rest of the Council for review. Not that I expect any of us will find fault with of your recommendations, given what I’ve heard about you, but we will need to make our own preparations accordingly.”
”Then it’s settled. Admittedly, the spirit of cooperation has made this whole affair much easier than I was led to believe it would be.”
Shay’s expression assumed a serious cast, though her amber eyes remained friendly. “I hope this is but the beginning of a trend.” Cooperation between the three factions represented here would please her on multiple levels. For all she’d come to accept the need to lead her people into war, the Sentinel had never wanted war. The better they worked together, the faster they could achieve their objectives and the sooner the war could end.
On a more personal note, Shay wanted the Alliance, the Mando’ade, and the Jedi Order to come to an accord that would last beyond the current conflict. She acknowledged expecting such from the second group on her list may be asking a bit much, for cultural reasons. Still, she would do her best to make it happen. As for the first, Master Marin felt it was time the Order worked closely with a galactic government again. Not as subordinate to it—never that—but as advisors, educators, and allies.
”The bulk of our invasion force will follow the Tsad fleet in that case. […] The final tip of the Ori’ramikad trident will remain by Cabur Mand’alor; accompanying her, wherever she may be on the battlefield.”
With no knowledgeable input to provide, the Jedi Investigator remained silent as the Mando’ad outlined the tactics his people intended to use. She made several mental notes as he went along, as she attempted to figure out how the Jedi on the ground could best cooperate with the Mandalorians leading the charge. Among her concerns was the willingness of said Mandalorians to cooperate with the Jedi as a whole. Of course, considering their leader had made her position on the matter of joint operations clear, she had reason to hope there wouldn’t be too much intercultural friction there.
”This brings me to one of my final issues: what do you both think would be the correct way to deal with the planet’s royal family? […] It is then the wish of the Aliite that the royals are secured and detained as gi’e collaborators until it is safe to reintegrate them back into Onderonian society.”
On this subject, Shay not only had input to give but strong opinion as well. A small frown played on her mouth, though a thoughtful one rather than an indication of condemnation. “Detainment would be necessary, of course. If any crimes have been committed by the royal family against the populace of Onderon or others, they should also be held accountable for them. However, I do worry if we take the royals away to some secure location and prevent them from communicating, the people might have reason to doubt whether or not they’re still alive. That could foment rebellion against us as well.”
The blonde woman leaned forward, resting her forearms against the table again, her hands still clasped. “Something I do want to make clear up front is the fact the Jedi Order will not tolerate any executions, deliberately inhumane treatment, or… ‘aggressive forms of interrogation’, to put it politely, of any prisoners taken, royal or otherwise. Not that I thought either of you had such intentions, but no doubt there will be individuals amongst your number who would see such actions as acceptable.”
Shay paused a few moments for concentrated thought. “I suppose I could recommend that the Order take responsibility for such high profile prisoners, in the hopes that our known ethics would ease tensions at least to some degree.” A smirk curved across her lips. “The problem is, I’m not sure how comfortable the other members of the Council—or the Order as a whole—would be in becoming something akin to Force using jailers.”
