It's surprising that someone who is so conceited about calling herself an "artist" sings in such a crass, overblown, tasteless way and has absolutely NO sense of restraint. If you guys check out an ancient and notoriously overblown Broadway singer called Ethel Merman, you'll find that she sounds disturbingly similar to Christina. And she sang like that because she didn't have the benefit of a microphone.

My favorite singers, people like Dusty Springfield, Helen Merrill, Peggy Lee, Billie Holiday and more recently, Emiliana Torrini, Britney Spears and Leona Lewis, have the ability to move me, to create emotions out of nowhere inside of me, make me smile, make me cry, make me imagine places and times and people, transport me in my imagination...

Christina doesn't do any of that for me. Her voice shows no sign of emotional intelligence or empathy. She doesn't seem to care what effect she has on her listeners' inner landscapes. She's an excellent technical singer, I don't doubt it. But her singing just seems bombastic, showy, self-obsessed, sterile and spiritually empty.

I'm really sorry. I'm a HUGE, HUGE fan of singing and singers and I do try to see the best in everybody, but I just CAN'T find anything enjoyable about Christina.

^Karen we get it. Christina just isn't your cup of tea. However, she is other people's cup of tea so like Sick said it all comes down to personal tastes. Everything you said she isn't to me she is. Her voice touches me all the way to my soul, moves me, and it has so much emotion. Whitney, Celine, Carrie, and Pink do the same for me. Mariah Carey, Leona Lewis and others (Britney Spears *cough*) do nothing for me and have no emotion to them but I would still recognize that they are good singers. Again its all about personal tastes. happy.gif

Nolesey, I just wanted you to know that I'm genuine and not some bitch that just wants to wind you up. That's why I made that last post. I totally accept that you really love Christina and that her voice and way of singing mean a lot to you.

I'm really really sorry for causing you any annoyance. I'm having a bad night and if I say anything more I'm just gonna burst into tears, so... OK, hun? Huggies.gif

Christina has a metallic vox. She really shouldn't try to hit so many high notes at once.

From now on she should just hit one high note per song.

I gather that vox means vocals, but metallic vox? What can that mean?

Maybe she has a robotic throat, like Stephen Hawking?

Vox means voice...and metallic is the quality of her voice. Its the same quality of voice that rock/metal singers have very shrill and loud. When she hits high notes it reminds me of Janis Joplin or Steven Tyler. That's why I think she needs to adjust her voice for light ballads or even sing to other genres.

I actually think I'd prefer a robotic throat to a metallic vox.

Yeah I know what you mean, I think she can do soft but she's clearly not as comfortable with it.
