Ok so Karen you "claim" to not like Christina's voice because she "screams" to much. Well I take it you haven't seen this performance then:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gdulqOisVE

I would like for you to watch it in its entirety and then tell me what you think. I want CONSTRUCTIVE feedback and any other observations you may have. In addition, I would like to know if to you she is "screaming" here. Thank you.

In my opinion this performance is EXCELLENT just like Andrea Bocelli, a music LEGEND, indicated. happy.gif

The things I do for love. Nolesey, I wouldn't listen to Christina for anybody else! rolleyes.gif

Anyways!

The fact that Andrea Bocelli may have said that he thought it was excellent doesn't count for much, for several reasons. Here are a few -

To use the common SBUK argument, he couldn't really say "Well that was a bit crap" could he? He's a very nice, polite man.

He also sang duets with Sarah Brightman and said SHE was excellent too, but music critics have always thought she was mediocre.

It could be argued that Andrea doesn't really set the highest standards anyway, since he himself isn't a true opera singer but more of a "pseudo classical" singer, and isn't admired by many classical critics.

Now, turning to this performance -

Compare Christina's voice to Andrea's. His voice is soft and sweet but EVEN WITH HIM she's still hard-edged and metallic, and still can't get away from her fake-soul wailing cliches. In this kind of music, I'd expect Shakira to do a better and more authentic-sounding job and I bet Andrea would say SHE was excellent too.

My complaint about Christina in general is that her voice is shrill, harsh, exaggerated and unpleasant to listen to, and you can't undermine that criticism by trying to show that she doesn't always literally "scream".

Thanks for your "feedback" and thank you for listening (and I sincerely mean that). Good thing God gave you and me a different set of ears and distinguishable personal tastes because obviously your ears in my opinion are failing you and your tastes are questionable (no pun intended). By the way love, I asked you to be OBJECTIVE and all you did was name and talk down other artists you don't personally like and that had nothing to do with this performance itself and you tried to convince me is that Andrea isn't really "respected" or that he isn't a "true opera singer" or that he doesn't have "high standards." However, I ask you this question: do you have high standards?

I now open up this discussion to others as well just to see what you all think about THIS performance. Thanks!

I WAS objective about the performance. I described exactly what I thought was wrong with it and didn't say "I hated it" or whatever.

I responded to your use of Andrea Bocelli as a referee on Chrusty's behalf by showing reasons why it wasn't a particularly strong element in your case "for" Chrusty.

I'm currently leading the "Who is SBUK's biggest music snob" race, so I guess I MUST have high standards.

Ok when I said Andrea Bocelli liked her voice, the way the song turned out, and her interpretation of the song, I wasn't using that as a reason for you to like it or to prove that that is why this performance was spectacular. Of course that was my opinion on the performance itself and of course Andrea isn't going to say it was bad but at least give *some* credit when its due. I was just simply saying that to provide an example of someone who is very well respected (although according to you he isn't) speaking on behalf someone half his age and not as experienced as him. I merely created this thread because according to you Christina screams her way through all her songs so I thought, hey maybe Karen hasn't seen Christina really singing and not "screaming." I thought this was a lovely performance and wanted you to be exposed to it, that is all. I understand you gave me your opinion and that you dislike her but at the same time you still tried to discredit Andrea's abilities by giving me examples of other artists that had nothing to do with this discussion. Lastly, the simple fact that you had to resort to calling Christina "Chrusty" leads me to conclude that you are not as sophisticated as you claim to be.

Thanks for trying Noles! I don't listen to this often as I'm not into the song much but I do have the mp3 and she does sing beautifully on it!

I recommend Karen try out her duet with Tony Bennett on Stepping Out as well, it's very soft and light and I think it's one of her more subtle performances with no ad libbing. Also I Love You Porgy! Oh my gosh, that's one of my favourite vocal performances EV-AH.

I would love to be able to like her, since it would avoid being called so many names and being subjected to abuse by you guys. I have TRIED to see something good about her. I even have her "Stripped" album and I listened carefully to the double album when it first came out.

But... I just can't bring myself to like a voice that grates on my ears and makes me screw up my face in discomfort from hearing it. She really is my least favorite singer, and not because I have any prejudices against her or against big-voiced singers in general. I LOVE Mariah, I ADORE Leona to give just two examples.

Well that's fair enough but to use your own edict, you don't have to bang on about how awful she is all the time!

But using YOUR edict, if I disapprove of her don't I have an obligation to tell everybody? unsure.gif

Oh Karen. I never said that! I said on a discussion board for an artist it's perfectly acceptable to state approval and disapproval because that's the whole point. Going into threads of a person you don't even like just to give abuse gets incredibly tiresome and is unnessecary. You pounce on anyone who shows the slightest bit of negativity in a thread about Britney yet you have no qualms about doing so yourself with other artists?

Yes THE PRAYER is the song YOU DUMBASS. I knew the song but I doubt anybody on this forum including you knows that. GTFO of this thread if you have no meaningful contribution for it. I see you still haven't changed your trashy ways.

One more thing this thread had NOTHING to do Andrea Bocelli being a "reference" idiot. This thread was about her performance in this song. Obviously your lack of an education shows why you lack the understanding for yet another thread. Luckily for you we all know your a moron and only expect uneducated responses such as the one you provided.
