IGNORE ME IF YOU SEE ME
'cause i just don't give a shit

******************************

It was an unusually sultry morning in Darkness Falls, and, in sync with the rising sun, Morgan Trailer's eyelids drifted apart to reveal the cloudy sky above him. For a moment, the boy was unsure of his whereabouts. He lifted his head with a start, still horizontal. Trying to recall the night before, Morgan noticed the hard ground underneath him. He was lying in the grass. Focusing all his energy on the memory of the previous night, Mo remembered departing his small apartment after seeing his mother and her friends snorting a line, or however it is that they enjoy themselves. The boy never had any desire to be around during his mom's parties, and usually fled.

So, this scene of Morgan waking in the park wouldn't have been too unusual, if it weren't for the two shadows that crossed his body. Morgan's eyes rose to meet whatever it was casting the shadow, and he couldn't resist a groan. Two men in blue uniforms with gold badges stood above him, their tense faces hinting the words that were about to escape their lips. "Sleeping in the park is illegal, Morgan. You should know this after our, oh, four?--five? warnings. I hate to say, you're going to have to come to the station." And there it was.

Still in a daze, Morgan rubbed the sleep from his eyes and shoved his body away from the ground. He'd been dealing with the system since he was about five years old. More than likely, he'd get off with a small fine. Maybe they'd suspend his license or something, but that wasn't so likely. He cast a smile at the officer in front of him, as the other marched back towards the car. "Frank! It has truly been too long. How is the family?" It probably wasn't something to be proud of, but Morgan was nearly on first name basis with most of the town cops, due to his knack for mischeif. The officer struggled to keep a smile from his face, but masked it with a deep frown.

"Morgan, you really need to get your act together. I know the home stuff.. isn't great, but, kid, you're an adult now." Morgan's eyes fell to the ground at the mention of his home life, embarassed that Officer Nolan had busted his mom a few times. It was a touchy subject, and Morgan hoped his body language said enough to drop the subject.

Morgan followed Frank to the car, then slid into the back seat. Still irritated at the mention of Ms. Trailer, Mo spent the ride staring out the window, even more silent than usual.

On reaching the police station, the officers told Morgan to wait on a bench just inside the building until they'd wrapped up a few other cases. The building was a stereotypical police station; white cars with sirens lined up along the parking lot, a big, wooden desk inside with a high-strung woman sitting behind it. Then, a few feet back from that, by a black door, was a pale wooden bench, lacking any indication of comfort. Morgan sat down, and the officers told him it would be at least a twenty minute wait. That, at least, gave Morgan some time to cool down and possibly work up a good story to get him off the hook.

His musings were interupted when the door creaked open. Mo lifted his head, but was unable to see the newcomer from his seat.

Casey stepped out of her car and closed the door with a smooth bang, thinking that one of the good things about a small town was the abundance of parking spots. Traffic was usually pretty uneventful, but not without its dangers: the broken headlight on Casey's highly esteemed mean of transportation was evidence of such fact. Some distracted driver or idiot with complete lack of driving skills managed to knock the rear of Casey's Oldsmobile earlier that day while Casey was at the grocery store.

What pissed her off -- second to the damage -- was that the culprit didn't even have the decency of leaving their contact number trapped by the windshield wiper or anything, but what really pissed her was to be naive enough to expect them to do so. Either way, the cost to fix it was pretty much on her and that was not the only problem: chances were the part would have to be ordered, meaning it would take a few days to arrive in Darkness Falls and in consequence, there'd be no driving for her during said period because once her father heard about it, the man would forbid her from using the car... after a lot of screaming of course. Hey, at least she didn't get pulled over for a broken headlamp yet; not all was lost.

But this wasn't the reason why Casey stood in front of the police station right now. The folder tucked inside the messenger bag strapped across her dark green shirt was. Frank called Casey asking her to drop by and bring along some papers he forgot to sign before leaving home this morning, and then take them to the lawyer. An 'oh, shit' whistle caught her attention and Casey turned towards the sound, nodding in agreement at the newcomer "damn, girl... what happened?" Officer Daniels asked, pointing at the car. She sighed and approached the guy, bending down and brushing her fingers along the small dent surrounding the main damage "some people shouldn't drive?" Casey shrugged and straightened up again. Noticing the look on the man's eyes she hurried on adding "... not me, eh?! I wasn't even near the car when it happened." Why people's first instinct was to blame Casey for whatever happened was something beyond her. Granted, she was not a saint and had done some really stupid shit in her life, but come on! Daniels smiled and raised his hands signaling peace then asked with a hint of sympathy on his voice "you gonna tell him?" Stupid question, but Casey understood the guy was probably wanting to know if she came all the way down here just to tell Frank about it. "I do need to talk to dad, but I think I'm going to... you know... be very selective with what I'll say." There was no way she could hide this from father dearest, but contrary to popular belief, Casey Nolan was not suicidal.

Squinting, she returned her attention to the building before them. She wouldn't call today a sunny day, and the smoldering heat made her wonder if it would rain later on. Then looking both ways, she crossed the street, officer Daniels following close behind "if you need backup, you know where to find me..." he man offered and grinned, getting a chuckle from Casey in return "oh, you're a good man, Daniels. How's Bess?" That lifted his already cheerful spirits even more and he proceeded to update Casey with the news on his incredibly pregnant wife as they walked up the stairs and reached the front door.

"Oh my Lord! You arrested her?" the officer behind the battered wooden desk asked as soon as she noticed Daniels escorting Casey into the station, receiving a confirming nod from her coworker "we all knew this day would come, Gina... we all knew." He said dejectedly and nudged Casey forward, getting nothing but a frown from the girl, but she gave the female officer a half smile as they walked past the reception, deciding there'd be no harm in playing along. "Have a seat, kiddo... this might take a while" with that, officer Daniels was gone and Casey knew he would tell Frank she was here, so she didn't bother in asking for her father. Closing the final distance to what had to be some object of torture masked as a bench -- Case knew it from personal experience that the thing was capable of leaving your ass numb in less than twenty minutes -- she sat down at the far end, opposite from a guy around her age.
