You will be hard pushed to beat the Premier Hazard LED-X lighthead for brightness.

I must admit I do find it mildly ammusing when manufacturers say that they probably have the brightest LED unit on the market. If they are that confident in their product then why dont they have a photo-metric test done and compare it with other leading products. If they are right they can then say that they do have THE brightest unit on the market .................. or is the problem that they are worried that they will be beaten ..................... wink.gif

Well I did not want to get accused of Redtronic bashing again biggrin.gif biggrin.gif but of course they are wrong ninja.gif

We have a number of units more powerful and as worx says get some photometrics done.

Its ok having power but what about the optical efficiency?

We can do 10000 lumens in Amber if anybody dares to use it! wink.gif

And of course our manufacturer actually has their own light tunnel cool.gif

I thought the whole point of using LED's, was to use a small amount ( like 3 or 6 ) to save power.... 18???? dry.gif

If you look at all the newer Whelen and fed signal heads they have 18+ leds, I don't think power is much of an issue as they run no-where near halogen or strobe power.

I know I'd feel more safe and will only ever fit larger number LED counts as they are bound to provide more warning power than a 3 led head...!
rolleyes.gif
I guess its all in the way the LED's are run, I don't know how these are done but don't think the current draw is too huge...

Worx...weren;t the LED-x heads designed about 5-6 years ago? I'm pretty sure technology will have improved since then... ninja.gif Even premier hazard are claimin the new code3 tri-core technology is twice brighter than anything out there - again a claim unproven!

I agree that photometric tests would be good - can you do anything redtronic / premier hazard?

Mobile centre - gosh thats-a-lotta-lumens! What can u offer that in? i ain't afraid of no ghost!! tongue.gif 10000 lumens is A LOT of power!!! An how much would that set me back...(£) huh.gif

18+.... err don't think so, the largest 'M' head from Whelen (M9, their most recent product) only has 12... When I was talking about power, of course they 'run' on less juice than a old halogen lamp, BUT they still require alot of power

Once again, you can't compare a 3 LED head to a 18 head, of course you will get more power...

Mobilecentre > tell us more.... biggrin.gif

Ah ... I am afraid it is as Premier Hazard have their own certified photometrics lab (amougst others as shown in the front of the new catalogue) as fleet managers are requesting results sheets for products

I find that many LED heads with over 9 leds do not tend to use any optics but rely on surface area of LEDs to make an effect. The new tri-core leds are very bright. The 1st demo I had was on a bright summers day .... even someone standing over 200ft away commented on the brightness.

Many Emergency service fleet managers are now asking for photometric test results and that tests are carried out over a longer period ... not just a 5min test. This is because many LEDs run bright for the first 10mins (or so .... approximately) and then as they get hotter so the light output is reduced. This is why 3, 6, or 9 LED lightheads with optics are still favoured ..... fewer LEDs... less heat build up within the lighthead

Photo below taken into the sun. Tri-core LED lightbar and LED-X grille and bumper lights, Ghost lights next to fog lamps.
Not the best example but there is no way I could get a photo face on to those lights cool.gif

10,000 lumens is serious power and serious cost try £1500 for a pair. BUT it would be roughly speaking the same as strapping a 1000W of halogen warning lights on the front of your vehicle.

And we have not even factored in the optical efficency. biggrin.gif

user posted image

Raw lumens is actually 14,400 when using 2

I would say Stealth - as they are clear when off but you would notice them fitted on car rolleyes.gif

Size is 221mm x 155mm x 63mm deep

The manufacturer is working on a more powerful version..... ninja.gif

so do Redtronic have any info on photometric tests ( just to get back on topic biggrin.gif ) to back up their 'the brightest LED HEAD available within the market place' statement?

flashharry9631 - original topic was split anyways... you need to refer to topic 'megaflash SC18' about that tongue.gif

(but they did put 'probably' in the description - bit like carlsberg - funny laugh.gif )

Mobilecentre - is that amber? or white? - what size are you talking?

Also, think at that pricing it would really render any fleet lighting project unfeasable really.... ninja.gif

err - please review...
http://www.fedsig.com/products/docs/litera...X7-MU%20244.pdf Quadraflare has 16 LED's

http://www.whelen.com/pb/Automotive/Produc..._Lightheads.pdf m9r , m6cc and m7j lightheads has 18 LED's...

The size is 221mm x 155mm x 63mm deep you could have white or amber or other colours. Basically call it a 9" x 6"

The price is too high for warning applications it was more to demonstrate how dangerous it is to make claims that cannot be backed up without data such as photometrics. It is also importnat to understand how LEDs function and how to get the best from them using optics etc.

as for quantity of LEDs we have a headlight which just uses a single LED for main beam, and a work light that uses three which is equal to a unit that uses 12.

If you READ worx's 1st post above, he is talking about photometric results and manufacturers that claim to be the brightest - as Redtronic did, or 'probably the brightest' if you want to be that picky. ( at the end of the day we all know it is meant to 'say' the same thing )

So my response was valid in this topic as I was talking about photometric results in my last post ! rolleyes.gif
