Marching technique?, How we gonna do this?

The first clear direction I got on Saturday about the marching technique is that we will be using a glide step. Based on that, I'm gonna guess a straight-leg technique, as that was standard in ages past when all us fogeys marched. I'm asking about it, however, because Vern mentioned military style--and that's not straight-legged, nor a glide step.

The second thing is that the posture will be relaxed above the waist, with the shoulders down and the shoulder blades back. We want the horn players to breathe as easily as possible.

Let's see, low mark time will be standard--anything high will be for special effect only. Horns/Percussion likely will never exceed stride lengths of 6/5 yds; jazz runs and the like are for the guard only.

Beyond that, I don't recall any definite guidelines from Jeff. Are we going to keep heads level or chins up? I vote for heads level, military style--it's more relaxed than chin-up.

What about foot position at attention? Flat foot or not during mark time?

I'll put together a technique book once we get it all hashed out.

If it were up to me, I would say straight-legged. It looks cleaner and makes forms easier to see.

Who are you tptdude?

We are concerned about the Staight Leg Term. If this means locking the knees while marching that's probably not going to work for us. We are more Senior than All Age at the moment and don't want to get anyone hurt.

An Instructor for I think East Coast Jazz wrote a marching instruction book a couple years ago. That would be interesting to get a hold of.
