welcome to champagne from a paper cup. we're a real life roleplay that centers around the lives of university students, staff, and (of course) the locals that are affected by both as they attend or teach at henry woodward college. henry woodward college was founded back in 1812 which means that it is quickly coming up on it's bicentennial birthday. with that in mind, the students at henry woodward are going to each celebrate in their own way. for many, this will mean breaking out as much illegal alcohol that they can get their hands on and pouring it into the oh too famous red solo cup. but, for some, they will choose to ignore it seeing the day as a really lame reason for a party. so, what will you choose to do? will you choose to be on the side that thinks that a college's birthday is nothing to celebrate? or will you see anything as a good reason for a party no matter how lame? after all, you know what they say, college is a good place to discover what your true core values are.

oh why don't i ever learn

I'VE LOST ALL MY TRUST, THOUGH I'VE SURELY TRIED TO TURN IT AROUND. CAN YOU STILL SEE THE HEART OF ME? ALL MY AGONY FADES AWAY WHEN YOU HOLD ME IN YOUR EMBRACE. DON'T TEAR ME DOWN FOR ALL I NEED. MAKE MY HEART A BETTER PLACE, GIVE ME SOMETHING I CAN BELIEVE. DON'T TEAR ME DOWN. YOU'VE OPENED THE DOOR NOW, DON'T LET IT CLOSE. I'M HERE ON THE EDGE AGAIN AND I WISH I COULD LET IT GO.

Since the school year started, Kensington Center for the Arts had been Adriana's safe haven. She spent most of her time in the building even when she wasn't teaching any of her classes. She was surrounded by art and art supplies in her classroom where she could paint or draw to her heart's desire. But her main reason for spending so much time in that building? Because Hudson Taylor didn't have any reason to be in that building whatsoever. Adriana hadn't seen him in four years. Not since he'd left with her former best friend. And now that he was back and teaching at Henry Woodward, Adriana was hoping to avoid seeing him for another four years, maybe more. The school was large enough to avoid running into him, right?

It was a hard pill to swallow, that her ex boyfriend and the one man she'd truly loved had left her for the girl she'd considered her best friend. It had been hard to deal with, but she had dealt with it, and she had tried her hardest to move on. Adriana thought she'd done a damn good job of forgetting about Hudson and pretending like that part of her life didn't exist. Until she got the staff newsletter before term started giving a list of the new staff members. When she saw his name on the list, Adriana had freaked out. There was no way he was coming back here. There was no way he was going to be one of her coworkers.

Since then, she had taken to sticking to the arts building, or going to the Delta Gamma house to check on the girls. Just going anywhere that Hudson had no reason to be anywhere near the building. She'd done a good job of it so far. Term had started awhile ago, and she hadn't seen him once. She was hoping that meant fate or whatever you wanted to call it was on her side.

Adriana was in the middle of working on a painting, paint splattered across the smock covering her jeans when she heard the door to the studio opening. "I'll be with you in just a second," She called out, thinking it was a student coming to ask about a grade. She set her brush down on the easel, wiped her hands on her smock and turned. "What can I hel-" Adriana froze in the middle of her sentence, her eyes widening slightly at the sight of Hudson Taylor standing in her safe haven. "Hudson."

Let the rain wash away all the pain of yesterday
it hadn't been hard for hudson to figure out all the different places adriana might be that time of day -- not only because there was a whole registry online that told him her office number, which classes she taught, what rooms they were in, but also because he knew her. he remembered all the late evenings he'd brought her coffee or dinner to one of the art building's many studios, and pretty much figured not much could have changed in the four or so years since he'd last seen her. except for, well, everything. he'd changed. not that he expected her to care -- at least, not right away. that was why he'd tracked her down, finally, after using the first few weeks of the semester as a buffer to lull her into a false sense of security. which sounded fucked up, hudson knew, but if he had even a remote chance of getting her back in his life, he couldn't rely on any of his old tricks. he had to show her he was a different man than the one who'd left her -- preferably without telling her why, but, he wasn't that optimistic, even though he tried to smile casually and open the door casually, if one could even do that, and pretend he was just introducing himself to some random art teacher. that he'd never seen naked.

okay, he wasn't optimistic at all. and any hope he'd had opening their conversation with some charmingly off-the-cuff remark about how she hadn't changed one bit pretty much died in his throat the second hudson caught sight of her, framed in the light that streamed through the windows and caught like a halo of gold and fire around her face. of course she'd changed. it would be insulting for him to ever tell her otherwise, considering the last conversation they'd had. she didn't even look the same, not really, even though it was clearly her only even moreso... but that quirked up little nose and the paint smears on her clothes were so achingly familiar he fought the cliched desire to allow himself to 'feel 22 again' and simply cleared his throat. damn. even when adriana looked ready to throw a paint bucket at him, send him stumbling back into the hall, and slam the door in his face, she was easily the most beautiful woman he'd ever seen. and it wasn't like he hadn't seen that look in her eyes before.

"hey," hudson offered, and even he knew it was just about the lamest thing he could have said. other than "how 'bout them woodchucks?" probably, or "so, how y'been?" he was an idiot. so, clearly, the only option was to embrace that and hope it endeared her to him. somehow. starting off with an apology would sound cheap, wouldn't it? he didn't know. he didn't watch enough teenage soap operas to even know how to begin to approach this situation. "what are you working on?"

and just like that, he proved himself wrong. that was officially the lamest possible thing he could have said.

The online registry had been a big help for her in the beginning. She knew where he'd be, which meant she knew which buildings and hallways to avoid when she needed to leave after a class or get to a certain building. But it obviously worked for him, too, to find out where she would be. How had she managed to go weeks without seeing him, only to have him walk in on her in the room when she was so unprepared for this meeting? It didn't seem fair. She'd hoped that, if she had to run into him, it would be on a day when she wasn't covered in paint. This was so not how she'd have liked her ex to see her. She was still in shock at seeing him standing there in the room where she was painting, just like he had many times years ago.

"Hi." Adriana finally managed to choke out after getting over her initial shock at seeing him. She had to get past this initial awkward meeting, didn't she? It'd make working in the same school as him easier if they could get the awkward hello over with. Then he could leave, and Adriana could continue to pretend like he was just the new history professor, and not someone she'd seen naked on numerous occasions. He asked what she was working on and Adriana bit back the bitchy remark she wanted to make. They were adults now, and telling him "none of your fucking business" wasn't very adult like. Even if, in Adriana's mind, he would deserve it. "I'm not sure yet." She said instead, proud of herself for holding back the comment she so desperately wanted to snap at him.

"What are you doing here?" She asked, not sure if she wanted to really hear his answer or not. What could he possibly want to say to her that made him purposely seek her out in her classroom? Surely it hadn't been just to ask her what she was working on. Especially not after the last conversation they'd had. The memory wasn't something she really wanted to remember right now, so Adriana crossed her arms over her chest, looking Hudson over. "How's my former best friend? You two still shacking up, playing house behind someone else's back?" She asked coolly. So maybe she was still bitter enough to make one bitchy comment. That was allowed, right? She couldn't be civil all the time.

It wasn't fair that four years had been extremely kind to him. She wanted to be able to hate him without being attracted to him, but that obviously wasn't going to happen. He was still attractive and she had to admit that. So unfair. "The awkward hello slash meeting has now been addressed, so if that's all you wanted..." Adriana said, biting her lip nervously. That was all he could want, right?
