Post some reviews of films or whatever so we know what to watch and what not to.

EAGLE EYE

Well, I watched this tonight. It's just completely absurd. Basically, the film borrows plotlines from about 80 different things (Terminator, I-Robot etc) and mangles them all together. There are so many plot holes in it that it's untrue. Also the acting is that bad that I actually wanted the main characters to die by the end of the film.

Rating: 3.5/10 Poor, poor effort.

POINT BREAK

-- An early nineties movie that I passed up so many times when I was younger cause i thought it was gonna be a very bad movie and I really didn't want to see guys surfing for 2 hours. But boy was I wrong. The movie was actually good and changed my mind after watching it. I would reccomend it if your an action movie fan.

8/10

CONGO

- Okay this movie is best if you have nothing to do and boredom has set in really badly. It came out in the mid 90's ('95). Now I know CGI was able to make the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park but it wasn't yet as good as it is now to create hair. So the gorillas in the movie were done by actors and makeup. It has an ideal cast of Ernie Hudson, Bruce Campbell, Laura Linney and Tim Curry. I remember seeing it as a teenager in the theaters but not really wanting to see it, but I was forced by my parents cuz my younger sibilings wanted to see it. Now I read the book and found the book more better than the movie. Would I recommend this? If your that bored and have nothing else to watch and want waste time then go ahead. But for me I'm glad i've only seen it twice.

The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys

A gang of eighth-grade Catholic school students in mid-‘70s Savannah are caught making an obscene comic book featuring priests and nuns having sex. As revenge for the punishment they receive, they plan a prank on an unsympathetic, one-legged nun ......

------------

This movie all depends on your taste, I was suckered in seeing it when it came out in a small theater and I fell in love with it. The book is better, (as is the case most times) I love drawing and comics so the cut scenes with the comic characters grabbed me. Really found this movie very entertaining and if your a fan of Robert Blake the author then this is a movie you would most likely enjoy.

DISTRICT 9

- A sci-fi movie with a racial epitone to it. Peter Jackson produces this movie that was at first a short film which direct Neill Blomkamp made it his first feature film.
The movie does flashbacks at first giving details on why and how the aliens came to the planet and how the government dealt with them. The movie centers around one human character and his race against time. So far this summer I have seen all the blockbusters and was kinda let down by the two big ones (Transformers 2 & G.I. Joe) but this one I will say is the best movie i saw this summer in theaters and i recommend it to anyone who likes sci-fi or just wants to see a good movie.

I was wondering about District 9 and hoping it was good.

Thanks Bucky.

POSEIDON

-----

Decent sort of action film. The whole "aaah the boat is sinking and we're going to drown" type of films have been done to the death - but then so has everything else. Kurt Russell is an awesome actor and I watched it for this reason alone. He gives a pretty good performance, but it's hard to escape that "I've-seen-it-all-before" feeling throughout. That sort of brings it down.

THE BANK JOB
-----

Jason Statham in this one. His films tend to be a bit samey samey, but I really enjoyed this one. It's not just your typical bank heist sort of plot and has a few twists and turns along the way. You know what you're getting if you watch a Jason Statham film - this one delivers.

7/10.

TAKING LIVES
------

Angelina Jolie and Ethan Hawke in this FBI thriller mystery movie. The plot is based around the premise that a kiler with a twin brother is so upset that he isn't mother's favourite that he begins to 'take the lives' of other people - thus becoming them and stealing their identity. It's a pretty interesting film in that respect. I thought Jolie was really good in this film. Kiefer Sutherland makes a small cameo and is good with it. Ethan Hawke... well he was a let down. Overly dramatic in some points, but meh... Fantastic twist at the end of the film.

Oh, and Angelina gets her tits out before getting steamy with Hawke! Great scene!

7/10 (tits did not influence this rating or it would have been an 8)

THE BREAKFAST CLUB

- This is a classic 80's teen comedy. It tells the story of a geek, a jock, a popular chick, a criminal and a clepto. At first they don't seem to get along cause of the places in the groups they hang around with. The movie tears at the heart of the notion that there is cliq's in school and these cliq's tend to hurt others. I've seen this movie a dozen times and I have to say its among my favorites from my era.

Saw this yesterday and I definitely agree with Bucky.

It has a sort of "edge of your seat" quality to it, while still being a very emotional, thoughtful film. The blurred lines between good and evil make this a movie you'll want to talk about afterwards.

The Last House On The Left

After kidnapping and brutally assaulting two young women, a gang led by a prison escapee unknowingly finds refuge at a vacation home belonging the parents of one of the victims -- a mother and father who devise an increasingly gruesome series of revenge tactics. I really liked this movie in fact just watched it about an hour ago. Definitely a good rent.

BTW I agree about District 9-- very good movie. I'm not a big sci-fi buff but this one I REALLY liked in fact I'm going to see it again this afternoon.

(500) DAYS OF SUMMER

It's sort of romantic comedyish, but not really. It's more of a quirky, indie, coming of age-type movie. It's clever and smart and I found myself really caring about the characters. It's funny too and not just a chick flick (though it is a good one to take a girl to.)

MY SISTER'S KEEPER

- Okay I don't really do drama's but every now and then I'll take one for the team if my wife has to deal with seeing giant robots or aliens or masked serial killers chasing naked teenage girls around just to slaughter them. The movie deals with a family that genetically creates their second daughter to be a donor child for their leukemia sickened first born daughter, but their reality is smashed when their second daughter sues her family to be emancipated from the whole ordeal.
The movie is a tear jerker as I saw my wife sobbing over it. Me I don't like dramas cuz its a genre that really doesn't appeal to me, there are some that do maybe cuz they have guns and are history based. I recommend it if your with your wife or girlfriend. Otherwise see something else.

Battle Royale

I've heard a lot of about this film and then I noticed that Tarantino listed it in one of his top 20 films of the past two decades. I figured it'd be good; it was. A typical Japanese gore fest that touches upon some very philosophical issues in some ways. It's about a class of degenerative teenagers in Japan - a new law is introduced due to the trouble schools are having with kids that says that they are worthless and the only way to prove that any of them is worth a damn is by fighting it out over 3 days to leave one man/woman standing. In some parts, it did go a little overboard, but it was interesting nonetheless.

WANTED
----

This is like The Matrix meets Fight Club, imo. Lots of action and lots of really great stunt scenes. I was a bit sceptical about the casting of James McAvoy as the lead after seeing him in The Last King of Scotland - he's a bit of a geek, but that's exactly what this film needed. He's like a thinking man's Neo... and that's a good thing. Jolie gives a dark performance and Morgan Freeman isn't really up to his usual high standards, but overall good acting. This film has a decent plot and some great twists.

88 MINUTES

- This movie is a decent thriller. And it has Al Pacino in it too boot. Pacino plays a doctor who helps convict a killer who at his trial tells him 'Tick tock doc". Years later similar murders begin to happen as it may seem the wrong man was accused of the murder. Pacino's character is taunted by a caller who tells him he has 88 minutes left to live. The movie has its edge of your seat nail biting moments and has a good twist at the end of the movie. I would recommend it if you like thrillers.

HALLOWEEN 2

- Well where do I begin. I would say I thought the movie was good, but then again I would be lying. Yeah it picks up after the first one and stays on course til it hits the middle of the movie and derails from there. Rob Zombie has had some success with his movies but then there are those that well sucked. This one shoulda been left alone and never done in my book. I was confused cause they never explained certain things that well shoulda never been explored if he wasn't gonna draw a conclusion to it.

It sticks to his brand of blood, guts and violence which is enjoyable to a degree.
His use of various other horror movie legends is cool.
