UVA kicked off the night with some spectacular opening events in their new stadium, the John Paul Jones Arena. It featured that guy that says "Lets Get Ready To RUMBLE".

Any way, after the crowd died off after a bit, UVA fell down 19 to the Cats. In the 2nd half, Sean Singletary and Mamadi Diane heated up. Diane hit a big 3 off the backboard late in the game. He finished with 5 three-pointers and 25 points along with Singletary's 25. J.R. Reynolds played with a bloody swollen eye. He added 10 points. The Cats had a chance to tie the game after Reynolds missed his first FT attempt and hit his second with 8 seconds left. J.P. Prince could not connect on the down town shot, and Virginia picked up the upset win.

The highly heralded freshman, Chase Budinger had 15 points in the first half for the Wildcats, but disappeared in the 2nd, with just 2 points. Mustafa Shakur was held to just 5 points after fouling late in the 2nd half and had to sit most of the 2nd half since the 11 minute mark. Marcus Williams also fouled out very late after tallying 18 points.
