Mai simply smiled and shook her head. It wasn't that she doubted he would do well with kids but it was just hard to imagine anyone unable to light up when a child was around. Yes, even Camdon. She knew he felt emotions and he could joke and he knew how to smile, she just wondered if everything was alright sometimes. He could joke and laugh and smile but she never really felt as if he was seriously able of experiencing extreme emotions. So he felt happy or he felt sad, fine. Did he ever feel joy or grief? Rage or horror? It made her curious but she never asked because she didn't feel like it was any of her business. She just always worried that he was never one hundred percent happy but she didn't know how to fix that so she left it alone. "As long as I don't start painting the walls pink, right?" Mai eyed him with a grin. She wouldn't go that far but she didn't like pink, anyway. They were safe.
Mai chewed on her bottom lip in contemplation. "I don't think it's him so much as it is me." Her gaze was fixed on the floor and she was starting to count the number of specks on one tile as they spoke. "I should just tell him it's over and it would be so much easier but I feel horrible for saying something like that when he obviously cares about whatever this is." She, on the other hand, would have been glad to be rid of him but she couldn't bring herself to hurting him that way. "So, really, I can't be mad about anything because it's my fault and I know what I have to do to make it stop but I don't let myself do it." Wow, could you say high school drama? His words seemed to soothe her, however, and she felt the cooling relief on her temper as if he was applying a balm to a burn. "You're only saying that to me because I sign your check," she giggled. "They know. At this point, I think they're worried about what would happen if you guys found better work somewhere else!" There was just no pleasing those people... "Speaking of family. I'm inviting my grandmother and my dad to Thanksgiving dinner. The old coot won't come live with me but she'll travel god knows how many miles to celebrate an American holiday," she heaved a sigh and rolled her eyes. "Point is, are you going home to be with your family or did you want to invite someone to dinner?" She just wanted to know so that she could start preparing things and ironing out details. With everything else that she had on her mind, it was probably easier if she started to prepare for things as early as possible.
Mai cleared her throat and hugged her stomach, tightly. After a moment, she looked back to Camdon with raised brows and pursed lips. "So, uh... I think we're ready to check out."
