Being a Nuisance, -Tor!

It seemed a very long time ago that the priests of Autumn decided that Nangwen needed their assistance in coping with recent events and sent groups of priests and acolytes throughout the country, scattering and making themselves useful however they could. Most of them settled there, finding places that needed the help desperately. Places with no other priests, no one to offer aid or comfort.

Kyle is no exception to the rule, though in her case there are other priests with her - older, more experienced priests to serve the palace and its inhabitants.

Kyle is hungry.

This is why, early this fine autumn morning, when really she should be meditating or in prayer, she's hanging around the door of the kitchen, hoping to snag something to eat. She isn't exactly entitled to food, but she's found that sometimes if she's lucky, if she shows up and looks thin, someone'll toss her something to eat.

Or give her chores. It's really a tossup.

The brown-robed girl who looks like a boy - with hair boy-short and a complete lack of figure lurks, and hopes, with all the hope in her teenage heart.

[Tor]

The door to a kitchen is never a good place to stand in, especially when it's rather busy. Honestly, don't people have any sense? "Pardon me," Rosalind pushes her way through the door as if she has every right to do so. And she does, after all, she has a meal to help prepare.

With her hands on her hips and hair in her face, Lindy observes the kitchen. Things need to be done.

"You will need to move."

The kitchen is getting busy already. After all, dinner is only seven hours away.

[Wysteria]

"Where to?" Asks Kyle, challenge in her tone. Give her a sensible instruction and she'll obey it. Give her a stupid one and she'll ignore you like the lower lifeform you are.

Oh, she isn't arrogant. Not one bit. Just aware of her own self-worth and intelligence and - okay, I'll shut up now.

[Tor]

"Somewhere out of the way," use your head. The instruction wasn't insensible, the processing of it was. What else would "move" mean?

Yes, there was much to be done. Make the rolls, peel the potatoes, wash the lettuce, chop the herbs...blast, the poultry!

And where have the apprentices gone? Someone is supposed to be getting things for her, she's sure of it..

"Did someone send you down here?"

"Yes. I'm supposed to help out?"

She's lying through her teeth, but that's never stopped her before. For a member of the priesthood, Kyle has a flexible approach to morality.

[Tor]

Rosalind doesn't bother confirming it. She begins giving orders right away, and soon enough, so do other cooks. Other apprentices appear out of the woodwork and food prep is in full swing.

Birds have to be prepared, so do fish and other animals. Breads are baked (some burned) and the rooms smell so much of herbs that its nearly overpowering.

There's a lull in the activity. All doors that open to the outside have been opened to give things the oportunity to cool down. Sweat and spices stick to all the women's faces while they rest before beginning work on the dreaded next course. They don't eat yet, of course. They never eat before the foods have been completed.

Kyle actually likes cooking. It's strange, and it's odd, but dealing with dead things and making them into other things is right up her alley.

That and being a priest of autumn is all about domestic activity.

For lack of anything better to do, Kyle wanders over Rosalind's way, as Rosalind is so far the only person to talk to her at all today.

[Tor]

"You're not really supposed to be in here, you know."

For you see, Rosalind is under the impression the Kyle's a boy. Which, we know, is not the case.

[Wysteria]

Grin.

"What, I'm not allowed?"

The way he fit in rather belies that, doesn't it?

Not that he's currently male, but that's besides the point.

"I just thought I'd make myself useful."

Cooking puts the boy in a good mood.

(Yes, the boy is a girl. Don't ask me why her self-image involves the male pronoun, I couldn't tell you.)
