Malarci wasn’t one to be late for the first candidate lesson, but he didn’t want to be the first to arrive either. He decided to take a pleasant to the classroom, arriving behind some others. That was fine, arriving in the middle was good. He nodded to the candidates already there and then to the candidate Master. He nodded politely to her, not a young man of that many words. He then made his way to one of the desks, sitting down and not touching the cup but wondering what the purpose of it might be. Stretching out his long legs he jogged the desk, but the cup remained as it had been placed. He allowed himself a half grin, thinking it wouldn’t have been a good start if he had knocked the cup off the table.
Kalieta really had so much to do. She still was doing Harper duties as well as needing to attend candidate lessons. She had been all set to copy some old hides that she had found in the records room, but that had to wait now that she was called to the classroom for the first candidate lesson. She knew it was important, but she really had to get the hides copied, the Harper Hall wanted them, they were old songs and she wasn’t sure if they had copies of them. She had never seen the songs before.
She entered the classroom, her mind still on her copy. She acknowledged all those around her, smiling at Fl’ite, wondering what today’s lesson would cover. Hopefully she would have some time afterwards to attend to harper business, it was going to get complicated if she had to juggle both being a candidate and a Harper, but she would manage, she liked a challenge and this would certainly prove that.

Angela was late! She has seen the notice for the candidates to assemble, but had been unable to read it. She had pondered for several moments, before finding someone and asking them to read it for her. When they told her that the candidates were gathering at ten, Angela realised she was already late.
Angela had been running hard for several minutes, and could feel the breath catching in her chest. However, she couldn't slow down until she found her class. Eventually, Angela reached the room in which she knew the lesson was being held, and shoved the door open. She half-ran inside, and stood at the front of the class puffing. Tere were five other candidates, each on looking at a different marble, and the instructor was standing at the front of the room.
"Sorry...I'm late..." Angela gasped. She smiled slowly, unsure of what to do. A table nearby was empty, so Angela sat down in it, and turned to face the front. "Are we studying marbles," she asked. "What do they have to do with dragons." She smiled eagerly, showing that she wasn't making a joke in what she said. Angela was exactly the brightest of girls.

"In the future I expect you to be prompt," the Candidatemaster said, "and come to class in a timely manner, you will clean the stalls later today to make up for your tardiness"
Angela's smile faltered slightly. She didn't enjoy being in trouble. Then it returned as she realised that while mucking stalls would be unpleasant, she might be able to spend some time around the runnerbeasts...if she was lucky.
"The marbles are dragon colors," the girl across from Angela said, "we're suppose to say what we know about the dragon color that we get...it's under the mug."
Smiling her thanks, Angela reached under her mug. It was such a beautiful blue, a deep colour, like what Angela imagined a saffire would look like.
When it was her turn, Angela began flustered, unsure of what to say. "Well, blues...." she started unsurely, "...are males...and they usually...thinging...umm...oh...impress...males and...yeah." She smiled, not knowing what else to say.
