Any asians here who have to bow to all asian relatives upon entering a house? My parents make me and my siblings do it ALL the time. That's why at gatherings at my parents' friends places, we try to get them to go early so we don't have to bow to many people.

The worst thing is going late cause you have to find every adult there to bow to :blink:
Going home early from gatherings is kinda bad too since you have to bow to all those adults.... That's why when we have gatherings at home with my parents' friends it's bliss cause no need to bow!

Sometimes I wished we could sneak in without seeing the adults :ph43r:

Anyone experience this traditional phenomenon? :P

nah, we don't do that stuff, we have to call our elders by their 'titles' but no bowing involved

my fiancé is filipino. he doesn't have to do it here, but he says when he visits family in the philippines, he has to put the hands of his elders to his forehead as a sign of respect. but don't know if anyone older than him is considered an elder, or just heads of houses.

i've never heard of that sort of bowing, though. where are you from?

for the record, i'm mexican. i don't have to do anything like that when i see family, except for a lot of kissing and enduring of beind teased. but i haven't seen any of my extended family (not even cousins) in like 7 years because they all live in mexico. ^^;
