Embassies are mini-domains within Argo. There has always been the problem of kingdoms not having domains; now every kingdom has at least one. Embassies can't be conquerred, and each comes with a PC house (where things can be stored and saved even after the server goes down). Kingdoms are free to manage themselves however they want, but I would suggest including the embassies in the kingdom's hierarchy.

edit: if people wanted to, embassies from different kingdoms could be linked together in hierarchies, since embassies can be passed from leader to leader (required for creation of hierarchy)

Alir Raj - August 13, 2006 06:38 AM (GMT)
what an awesome idea ^_^

Tristan - August 13, 2006 07:03 AM (GMT)
Very nice update, Gaku. You're working so hard on this game.. IMO it's the best on BYOND, period.. just a lot of people don't give it a decent chance.

ScouSin - August 13, 2006 07:32 AM (GMT)
So many updates, I'll have to play next time the game is up (expected monday) to see how everything pans out for me :D

Seishiro - August 13, 2006 04:07 PM (GMT)
Im impresses...serioulsy
you do so much work on this game. it is the best game on byond, and is rapidly becoming the most technical and ornate, not to mention immersive.
mad props to gaku

Elias - August 13, 2006 05:48 PM (GMT)
no speed on level up kind of depresses me :( Even though it's really unnoticable for a long time anyway, I always liked having that as a sort of motivator for levelling.

but speed-increasing suffixes = awesome

Sacrededge - August 13, 2006 09:55 PM (GMT)
All these updates and weapon armor changes won't bring about a ppwipe will it?

Gakumerasara - August 13, 2006 10:14 PM (GMT)
The updates won't require a ppwipe, but all of the bugs that happened last night (especially invisible players), we might need one anyway.

Also, I'm glad you're all enjoying the game, but please don't label it 'the best game' on BYOND. There are so many different kinds of games on BYOND that there's really no comparison between them. There are good games and not-so-good games, but I don't believe there can be a 'best' game. Just appreciate it for what it is. ^_^

Tristan - August 13, 2006 10:15 PM (GMT)
Oh I know, just saying that this is the game I enjoy playing the most on BYOND. :P

DTees - August 13, 2006 11:48 PM (GMT)
I just hope the bugs are truely fixed... if not... then I might have a idea on what is causing them...

HeatOmen - August 14, 2006 01:17 AM (GMT)
Wow. In the community I come from, the creator updates about half of what you did in 3 months. I think i'll award you with the 'least laziest BYOND author' award in honour of your achievements. =O

Im confused is a ppwipe the one where everthing starts over from the beggining or is that a pwipe.

If members of a kingdom store things at thier embassy, wouldnt other people be able to go in there and simply take it? Shouldnt there be some sort of barrier preventing non-kingdom members from entering that embassy? or at least from acessing the treasure stored?

I see, but that begs the question: Will the 'Lock Pick' skill be effective against embassy doors?

Gaku: Yes, assuming the person can survive long enough to use it.

Akai - August 14, 2006 12:09 PM (GMT)
Just a few concerns.

With the Cube treasure removed, the only reason one would have to escape the Cube would be to reduce experience loss. Is that now the only reason to try to be there? Well, shouldn't there be an increase in Cube death penalties so people are more motivated to find the exit?

Finally, shouldn't the well be capable of being used to put out fires in a domain? Sure, it shouldn't be anywhere near as capable as a fountain, but it would make sense. How about wells reduce the time fires stay lit over a 5x5 radius from the well?

While this is very true, the amount of work and effort and actual time spent without giving up on FFO compared to so many other BYOND games, the amount of polish it has, the fact that it's probably as close as a 2D BYOND game will come to an MMORPG, at least for a long while, makes it easy for me to put it on my top games list.

To be honest I played it several times in the past and usually just gave up after a week or two because of the slow speed or something else, and hated the fact it always "comes and goes" throughout the year like the McRib at McDonald's or something, but now I see myself playing it a heck of a lot since the most recent testing, and am frothing for it to come back up. I think it's the recent slump in the fangames department and things I've even been directly involved in, the coming of the waves of Naruto fangames to help fill out unpublished with even more lame rips than DBZ already did, etc. and the fact that ONE decent BYOND game is still around and still being updated and very often at that that's getting me hooked.

People would still have benefit in running the Cube under an alt or the like (gather horse sense or gather knowledge of how the Cube works), like they've been in the past. It is still beneficial to people to try and fine the exit when they have 3k to lose per death. Besides that, I know "I" will try to find the exit, rather than succumbing to the deaths.

edit: i noticed i was hitting spiders for twice as much 180-200ish

Gaku: nothing was changed in the version you were using, I just sent the update to Mal
The gradual effect means that differences in mag/resist will be more noticable than it was previously, since previously, any difference would tip the scales one way or the other more than it probably should have.

g-gulp

No more champs in raids? Why? Do you want less incentive to be in the raid unless you're on the quest or...?

Yep.

Charge bug still in effect.

QUOTE (Gakumerasara)
quest treasure chests
- do not restock with time
- if you're on the appropriate quest, you can find items in them
- always contain equipment (except quest items)
- items are always elemental and have suffixes
- multiple people can get items from a single chest in succession
- if you decide to examine the chest instead of clicking on it
--- item will be generated but will remain in chest
--- other players can potentially take your quest chest item (not a good thing)
- for chests containing quest items, examining has same effect as clicking

Were any of the old permachests turned into these quest ones, or are you only going to start adding them in for new quests?

Gaku: Garland's treasure is now quest-based. None of the others were changed.

Updates for when Mal gets back. (Kichiro, if you PM me about these not being in the current version I swear I'm going to ban you from the forums. <_<)

small bug fix: Charge
added swear filter for Say and Whisper
Emote verb
- used just like Say
- cannot be used when sleeping (same as say/whisper)
- say exp and flagging also apply
- when names used in emote
--- if players are in view, are replaced by appropriate face icon + name
--- each name used in this way adds to your spam count
- Ramdra style text parsing (link)
--- proper syntax for possessives and common nouns
- emote shortcuts
--- hard-coded phrases called up by simply typing a single-word emote
--- for example, emoting "whap" will actually show "Gaku whaps himself with a big fluffy pillow."
--- to use shortcuts for other players, emote shortcut followed by player name
--- e.g. - "whap John" will show "Gaku whaps John with a big fluffy pillow."
--- currently 267 emote shortcuts, not including duplicates

Just what we needed, Gaku. Though, I wonder if one cannot have the swear filter be something they can turn on and off for themselves, because, frankly, some of us aren't against seeing some of these 'sinful' words.

Gaku: You can swear all you want in DSay and PSay. I'd left the filter out of Say and Whisper (in the past) for RP purposes, but obviously people chose not to respect that...

Galan0 - August 19, 2006 04:33 PM (GMT)
so, is the f-word replaced with "f*ck" or something? cause i dont wanna say a long ass sentence with some swear words and then it says "Invalid message".

Gaku: No; the f-word hasn't been replaced; it's been removed.

Note the part about bypassing filters.
There are plenty of emotes to show your feelings toward someone.

small bug fix: unable to build improvements with doors (Cea)
small bug fix: interactive NPC freeze (Hood)
small bug fix: throw into grave double kill (Hood)
small bug fix: removing enchantments upon relogging
small bug fix: temper and saber effects on stamina (Game Hunter)
small bug fix: multi-Saging (Demon Prince)
13 new equipment items (MFlanaga)
modified Argo port authority
added social verb shortcuts
- S for Say
- N for NSay
- W for Whisper
- D for DSay
- P for PSay
- E for Emote
emote shortcuts recognize unintroduced (in)direct objects
- e.g. "whap john" has same effect as "whap fighter"
- only applies for shortcut emotes
nonstandard emotes invalidate Say messages
- e.g. :) >_> yw
"invalid message" gets returned to player (for easy modification)

edit 1:

small bug fix: Saber/Temper (Gohu)
small bug fix: boats + stamina (Yizzy)
removed emote screen from Say
a couple of new emotes:
- np
- intro
--- used to introduce yourself to a single person
--- can be used even if there are multiple people within view

Yizzy - August 22, 2006 05:01 AM (GMT)
thank you, Gaku. :)
