"It is the dark, inaccessible part of our personality, what little we know of it we have learnt from our study of the dream-work and of the construction of neurotic symptoms, and most of this is of a negative character and can be described only as a contrast to the ego. We all approach the id with analogies: we call it a chaos, a cauldron full of seething excitations... It is filled with energy reaching it from the instincts, but it has no organisation, produces no collective will, but only a striving to bring about the satisfaction of the instinctual needs subject to the observance of the pleasure principle.

PHENOMENA!

In the year 2010, an experimental drug designed by English chemist, Dr. C. Proulx was administered to a small test group of volunteers, this drug was intended to enhance brain function and alertness. It was an early prototype for a drug that scientists hoped would eventually allow human beings to tap into even a fraction of the unused percent of their brain. When these early tests showed promising results in over half of the control group, the US government offered to fully fund the project if the results that were meant to take place over the course of several years could be sped up into the span of months. Proulx took the offer and, within the span of two months, administered the drug to a second test group. Only a quarter of this group showed results but out of the ones that did, these results were outstanding, it seemed plausible that, if research continued as it had been, humans would be able to access up to 95% of their brain within a ten year span. The tests continued as they had been, one every few months, and each time, the number of people showing results varied but the results were so much greater. However, it became apparent that the only way to get enough people showing results was to increase the size of the control groups.

By the time they realized the side-effects, it was too late, the campaign had already begun.

To get the amount of results they wanted, the government began false campaigns, sending letters around, posting flyers, even advertisements on television and the newspaper, each one with a different appeal. They fed on the paranoia of housewives by slipping hints that without trying Vaccination P today, they may be putting their child at risk. The low-income neighbourhoods were exploited on every telephone pole with signs promising quick and easy cash just for trying Vaccination P today. In the late night TV spots between scenes in made for TV softcore porn, the chronically miserable heard all about how much better their life could be with Vaccination P today! If you bought into the media, you'd be thinking Vaccination P was the answer to all the world's problems.

After this drug had been administered to thousands upon thousands of Americans, Mexicans and Canadians alike, side-effects began popping up in the early test groups. It started with periodic headaches and blurred vision but stretched as far as migraines, blacking out and mild hallucinations. First it was only the individuals that had shown results that were reporting side-effects, then even those who had shown no results at all were hit all at once by this. It took over a year for the initial test groups to show these results, but each subsequent group began reporting side-effects within months, weeks, then days of each other. The groups that got the stronger doses of the drug's later stages caught up with the side-effects of the first group quickly.

From there, it went downhill fast. The hallucinations became worse, the blackouts became longer. People were losing hours of their life and all reporting strangely similar hallucinations, glimpses of the same bizarre dreamworld. Proulx was shut down, all advertising was pulled and destroyed. Members of the media were paid to keep their mouths shut and threatened to be publicly discredited if they did not. Any and all research, paperwork and records of Vaccination P were seized by the government and locked away in god knows where. But you can't cover up everything, the test subjects are still very much alive and the hallucinations are getting worse. Not to mention the fact that a few street dealers got their hands on a modified version of the drug for very illegal distribution once they caught wind of the hallucinations.

The project may be over but the phenomena has only just begun.
