It might have to do with the animation of the battle sprites. The animations contort and move the images a lot more than in Crystal and Emerald.

Yes, I thought the same thing. The way I think it works is it uses two pictures while moving to get the illusion that the sprite is really changing. That is what I thought it was, anyway.

That seems likely to me as well. Though, you never know, it could be something else. Also, you stole my avatar! Why???
