Title: How do I edit what the professor looks like?
EvanMiesterX - October 31, 2007 01:23 AM (GMT)
How do I change what Professor Oak looks like in the intro of Fire Red? I'm planning on making my first hack (yes, a little hint), and I want to make it a different Professor. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Read the first tutorial here. You should get the idea. :)

Can't you use TLP also? You get the offset, take the picture out and then edit it. But thats just what I think... I'm not really sure.

I tried using Unlz.GBA, but that didn't work, so I'm going to try Coin's suggestion. If it works, then thanks!

I always use Unlz.gba. I don't really remember where it's at, but I do know you have to have it in 256 color mode to be able to see it. It also helps to keep it in black and white. Save it, edit it in paint, and upload it back.

Well I know what I want the Professor to look like, but i can't seem to change what it looks like so that it won't be messed up. :( If anyone could help me do this (or even do it for me), I would be very grateful! :)

It's easier to simply change your sprite, making room for the image in the rom isn't always a good idea. Bad things happen if you're not careful... :ph43r:

Well, this is the Professor sprite:

I copied the Pokemon Breeded sprite, pasted it onto the Oak sprite, then edited it. Yes, It's a GIRL professor! Now I can't seem to change the colours so that it will work in the intro, all that ever comes up so far is a big blue and black mess! :(

Ok, so you opened Unlz.gba to 341 or so, in 256 color mode, and in black and white? It seems the sprite does mess up, but it means the colors are not right, somehow. Just try editing it again. BTW how did you get an oak sprite with the correct pallet displayed? Did you use the other oak sprite located with the trainers?

Yeah, I did that... :P Anyways, I tried that, but I can't change the colours so that they will be right! It's so complicated, all I get from it is a mess that looks like a Black and Blue Missingno. from R/B/Y!

That's a very strange result. I plugged your sprite into a FireRed rom I had lying around and, while the colors were messed up, the sprite was perfectly fine. You are trying to do this with FireRed right? Did you make sure the background color was right in the image?
