Hey all ^^

Lets discuss our favorite books!

(( Ha, I feel so brave because I'm starting a new topic ^^ ))

I love 'The Series of Unfortunate Events' series, and Isaac Asimov's science fiction novels, and 'Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell' (probably my favorite book of all times) and 'The Danta Club', and oh there's too many!

I can't think of them all right now! I'll continue to think up more though and post them here once the discussion gets rolling. ^^

I love reading~~!!
>w<
Though...I'm not a huge book reader...
(Wow that made zero sense after saying "I love reading".
>___>;;

Anyways,
Twilight is DEFFINIETLY my favorite book. I also love the sequels: New Moon, and Eclipse.

Also Song of the Wanderer.

Right now I'm reading The Giver. It's pretty interesting, considering I ussually only read Manga.

^__^;

Ahh and how could I forget, I love flipping through the amazing pages of my "Magnifique". :3

I have a few favorite books.

Lord of the Rings, Outlaws of the Marsh by Shi Nai'an and Luo Guanzhong, The Count of Monte Cristo by Dumas, and I'd have to say... Dragon Sword and Wind Child by Noriko Ogiwara.

I haven't read a lot of books recently though, just mainly manga, but every now and then I sit down with a good book ^^

oh the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice are awesome.

I had been thinking of starting a topic here but you beat me to this snailfreak XD

I absolutely love reading books. When I had time, I used to finish a book each week...but now...meh -_-. I especially prefer the fantasy genre. Dragons, knights and damsels-in-distress had always appealed to me =D

My favorite book would have to be Eaters of the Dead. I have no idea how many times I read it but I am sure it borders on countless XD

Other books that I really enjoyed were: The Unicorn Hunt, The Tommyknockers, The Lions of Al-Rassan, The Farseer Trilogy, Clive Barker's Books of Blood, The Bone Polisher, Spirit of the Sea, A Game of Thrones, Titus Alone, Forbidden Garden, Urban Horrors, and of course the Vampire Chronicles.

There were also a bunch of adventure books that I read that are by Joe Dever but my favorite one from the series was The Darke Crusade.

And of course, the classical: Daddy Long Legs. I squee every time I read that book >o<

So yeah...these were my favorites ^-^;;

***I just realized that I put Akira as the topic starter rather than Snailfreak. Sooooorry and please blame my insomnia ~_~***

Gankustuou is an amazing series, but the book... Very good. Though if you are going to buy the book I suggest the Barns and Noble's classics version only because its not an abridged version of it, and it's not that much either, $7.95 is a pretty good price for the book considering it has 600 pages.

Wow! So many books I have never heard of! You all isnpire me to read more now ^^

The Count of Monte Cristo, I think, sounds like an interesting read. ^^ Perhaps I shall pick a copy up next time I'm at Barnes and Nobles. :D

I've only every read 'Interview with blaahahha' of the Vamprie Chronicles. *squee* Lestat *squee* Omgosh so cool! He's so....awesome! Haha ^^ I like the movie too =^^=

I actually don't read manga. I read a bunch of Deathnote, but then um....my favorite character died, and then I simply stopped reading it because I was so sad about that.

I like Ray Bradbury's wirting ^^ Oh yeah I love 'Animal Farm' ^^ Such a great book!

I thought I had lost all hope of an anime/manga to catch my interest but then Death Note shows up. It's one of the most original and innovative mangas I've ever read (and seen as an anime =P)
I haven't heard of the sequels though but rather a supposed novelisation of some sorts but I'm not sure.
There's also a new chapter or animated episode called 'Death Note:R From Vision of God' that has it from Ryuk's point of view on the rivalry between Raito and L. Has any one heard of it?

I don't know, The Violinist of Hameln is very original, I mean... a series about magical music? That's pretty original I say and Manga Hamel is awesome. Though it's only available in other languages if it's been scanlated, which I know passion crane has volume 1-20 something scanned.

Yeah... I love procrastination if there was a class on it I could be the teacher. I finished a research project for my English class in HS that morning before the class, well I finished the last note card in the class but I started that morning on it and I had a month to do it ~~;;;

XDDD That really had me laughing. You must make procrastination an art form ^^ I don't really procrastinate too much, it's usually that something really just honestly slips my mind and I completely forget about it until it's time to turn it in and then I'm like 'Oh fish stick I forgot!'

Agreed! I loved it until my favorite character died. -_-

In a way I didn't like how some of the characters were killed of. My favorite character was Mello and I found it that his death was rushed in a way even though it fits perfectly in the story.
I relate to him through our addiction to chocolate =D

Mello is AWESOME.
He's my fave character from Death Note!!
So is Matt. *_*
Death Note is indeed very original....and rather contraversial.
>_>;

I'm sure you've all heard the story of DN being banned completetly from the face of China. O_o;

Yeah and I don't really get it. I know that some people might get carried away with the whole 'I have a Death Note, you are dead meat' kind of behaviour...but not to the extent of banning it. Even though I think its an overreaction, I respect the reasons for which it was banned.
It's worrisome what some school-kids nowadays are capable of doing and the violence that ensues from them...probably such a precaution is needed.

And yeah I think Mello is awesome too! It was too bad that he wasn't featured in more chapters though (like Near did XP)

You seriously won't regret it. It is very mind boggling sometimes yet very witty. I suggest you read the manga before watching the anime.

Well, I was wanting to read the manga before the anime I normally do that first anyway since the manga is sometimes a lot better than the anime, like Marmalade Boy. Even though I do love that song Rain that they sing for the school festival... though I hate watching things in dub, it HAS to be subbed for me, I hate English voice acting most of all the time.

Oooo...Marmalade Boy!!! >o<
That was the sweetest and most touching anime I've ever seen!
I saw the anime only and never read the manga.
I agree that the english dubs are a real pain to bear with. I watched it in Italian though but it was still good. It had the cutest title in Italian, "Piccoli Problemi Di Cuore", it roughly means Little Problems of the Heart or Small Problems of Love...you chose =D

Well, the creator of the series was a bit mad that the people who adapted it to an anime let that weird guy with the blue hair that was all obsessed over Arimi (sp) get together with someone when in the manga he's meant to be all alone..

But the thing I really hated about the dub, the same thing I hate about the Gravitation dub, is that one moment they're talking in English then the next they're singing in Japanese... it's like either A) get an English song to replace the Japanese one (which I'd HATE) or B) leave the whole damn series in Japanese and just sub it, if some people don't like it, then oh well, they'll deal with it, more anime fans like to hear it in the original Japanese than they do in English (I've done a survey at a con)

They only anime I've seen in a different language that wasn't Japanese or English was a French episode of Gankutsuou. That was strange... but interesting, because it was a French story to begin with.

I feel that the dubs in other languages are much better than that in English. Its like their voices are perfect on each character and the way they portray them is somewhat exact. I feel there is some over-acting in the English versions that in the end just annoys me out of my wits. Honestly, if you'd make me choose between the English or foreign dub, I'd definitely pick the foreign dub.

There's very few good English dubs out there. T_T;
Sometimes they hire bad voice actors~~
And their voices are all....monotone-ish.
o___o

Ergo Proxy didn't have a bad English dub. ^^;
But I do know what you mean by "over-acting".
