Thad started his car with a shudder, happy to get out of the unsettling weather, if only for a few minutes. As he watched Lisey and Amanda drive by him, he inhaled deeply letting the breath out in a big sigh and smiling politely at the sisters as they passed. He still wasn't sure what restaurant they were speaking of, but he figured he would find out soon enough.
Wiping his hands on his khakis, he grabbed the steering wheel and turned out after them, following them slowly up the street. Thad couldn't help but glance back into the rearview mirror at his summer home. The last time he had remembered really looking at that street -- it had been covered in sparrows. A whole blanket of them.
He didn't want to think about that again though. Not if he didn't have to. Shaking the thoughts out of his head, he continued to drive, turning his mind back to the weather.

Behind him, Thad Beaumont slowly raised his hands and placed them over his face. He stood there like that for a long time.
