[REGISTERING.]When registering please register with your characters FIRST and LAST name in proper capitalization. Jane Doe is right, while janedoe! isn't. (However, if you do make a mistake, feel free to contact one of the admins and they'll change it for you.) Please submit an application before you RP in our IC areas. If you RP before you are accepted, those posts will have to be deleted. No worries though, your application will be replied to soon. You're absolutely welcome to take part in any of our out of character forums while you are waiting for your application to be accepted; however, we do ask that you please wait until you are accepted to put up your character contact items, such as plot pages, cell phone pages, IM pages, etc.
[INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED RP.]We are an intermediate to advance rp site. We'd like people of the same strength to join, but if you feel that you're below that level, that's fine too. As long as you put effort in your posts and try; it doesn't have to be a novella. BIO is a place to have fun rping, not laboring over posts. We'd like you to have correct spelling and grammar while rping, there are spell checkers you can use. Please be careful with grammar (there and their are entirely different). A suggestion is to proof your posts in word or another word processing program before you post; it makes things easier.
[CHARACTER LIMITATIONS.]There is no set limit on characters that you can have, however we ask that you wait two weeks before creating another. If your first character is a canon, your second should be an original or vice versa. You should have proper balance with your characters, (original, canon, male, female). Keep in mind that just making characters and not using them is a waste. Please don't create a character every two weeks until your little heart desires either. Keep in mind your other commitments (other boards if you play elsewhere) when creating characters. Please note that each character you have should have equal playtime as well as separate accounts. We'd hate to see one character sit on the shelf in favor of another who might have a more interesting story.
[THREAD LIMITATIONS.]You are welcome to have two threads per section per character at any given time. Keep in mind that your character should not be in the same place at the same time. Because of this flexibility we are requesting that you use a time stamp marker in your post to let the staff and other members know exactly where in our time line your character is. This can either go in your topic description OR at the top of your post and should be in month, day, time format. (time may be approximated if you prefer)
[PLAYTIME.]While we are not going to limit you and your ability to reply, we do ask that you simply be mindful of other characters and their schedules. Some players are on more than others and are able to "tag" their threads more quickly. However, some players are more casual, "tagging" threads when their schedules permit. We do ask that you give ample time for all the thread participants enough time to reply so that thread hi-jacking does not occur. If it has been at least three days, you are welcome to send a polite PM to the person who has not replied with a reminder that it is their turn. Give them a day to reply and if you do not hear from them, then you are welcome to continue the rp around that person.
[STARTING/LEAVING THREADS.]We know that starting out a new RP board can be tough, especially if you do not know anyone. We have all been there. Don't worry, we don't bite and we are very welcoming.
When looking for that very first RP thread we ask that you consider joining an already pre-made open thread to begin your journey. If none of those threads suit your fancy you are welcome to start your own. Be warned however that it might take some time for someone to join it if characters are already engaged elsewhere.
If you find that a thread is not working out for you, or if the action has run its course, we ask that you put an OOC comment at the end of your post to signal that it is officially closed.
(I.E. OOC out) You do not have to explain yourself if the thread is not simply working out for you, but we ask that you do not simply abandon a thread. It is disheartening for the other player so please be courteous.
Once that is complete, the original poster is hereby requested to edit the original topic to include [LOCK] in the title so staff can by and lock it up and move it to our archives section. If you have any questions about this, please don't hesitate to ask.
[ADULT CONTENT.]As a real life board you may find some topics not suitable for those under 17. Things like sex, drugs, violence, etc may be found in some our threads. These threads shall be marked appropriately, (to be discussed in a separate post) so that other people know what kind of action is occurring in the thread. If you can not handle adult content then I would suggest you look elsewhere. This board is open to all those over 13.
[ACTIVITY.]As a roleplay board, our success is solely based on the activity of our members. If you are not active, then our board will fail. And we do not want to see that. We are not going to say you have to come and post every day (although that would be totally awesome!) we simply are asking that you come and check in regularly. If you know you are going to be away from some time, then please make a note in the appropriate Absentee board to let the staff and other players know that you will be gone.
This is especially important if you take on a canon character. As a canon character, you are agreeing to take on a persona that is essential to plot movement. If you disappear without a word to staff or other players, then the subplots that the staff has created will sit and other characters can not advance.
We will have random activity checks and if you fail to sign in during the alotted time, and have not posted an away notice, we will have no choice but to assume you have quit and will delete your characters. Said characters will then be replaced as available in the canon list for someone else to play. The staff requests that if you create a canon character and can no longer play said character here at BIO, that you do not take said canon character to another site. It's just not polite.
Original character applications will be archived for 6 months only. If you fail to retrieve your belongings within that time frame, everything will be permanently deleted. Canon applications that have been abandoned will be held for 3 months only before being permanently deleted.
[NO MARY SUE'S/GARY STU'S.]When creating your characters, please don't make your character the all knowing all powerful no harm can come to me type character. This is referred to as a Mary Sue/Gary Stu. As an advanced RPer, it is expected that you are aware of what these concepts are. Also, to coincide with the no Mary Sue/Gary Stu, please no Godmodding. You are not god and therefore can not roleplay the actions, thoughts, or words of another character without their express written permission.
EXCEPTION: Some people don't mind giving permanent movement rights to a fellow RPer. While we don't mind this, we ask that you make a
PERMANENT movement right statement in your signature.
[SHOW US YOUR FACE.]We at BIO worked really hard on our canon list, searching for the perfect face claim, worked hard on the graphics to go with that canon list and therefore ask that you use the suggested PLAY-BY for the representation of your character.
Avs can be either 150x200 or 100x100 but nothing outside of these sizes. Likewise your signature banner can be no bigger than 500x200. While we wont size up every single av/banner, we simply ask that you keep things under control. If things appear to be too big, we will ask that you change it.
[PLAGIARISM.]It is the hope of the BIO staff that we never have to deal with this, however, I wanted to get this out there so you all know where the staff stands on this issue. Plagiarism simply defined is taking another persons work without their permission and claiming it as your own. This is an absolute no-no and will not be tolerated here. If a member is caught doing this, they will be punished appropriately.
[DRAMA FREE ZONE]While we encourage IC drama, that is as far as we go. Please do not bring any IC drama OOC, or any OOC drama IC. Keep what you know separate from what your character knows and vice versa when playing at BIO.
[3 STRIKES! YOU'RE OUT!]The BIO staff believes in the three strike you're out concept. Sure it takes awhile to get used to a new forum, and therefore staff will give you three chances to correct the action before we take additional steps. While banning is something we never ever want to do, we won't hesitate to do it, if we feel it is necessary. There are two types of bans: temporary ban and permanent ban. Banning members is something we want to avoid, so follow the rules and you'll be fine.
[LEAVING BIO]We understand that we can't please everyone. If you feel that BIO is not the right place for you, we ask that you privately contact us to let us know your intentions. You may do so via e-mail to the board e-mail address, or by contacting an admin via PM. There will be no hard feelings, we hope, if you chose to leave. If you decide you would like to come back at a later date, you may do so, no questions asked. You won't even have to go through the approval process!
[THE C-BOX]Our chatbox is for IC/OOC chatting ONLY. Do not spam our c-box with forum advertisements as we have an advertising section for such advertisements. If you are a guest and have a legitimate question, then by all means, ask! Do not use a false name and start drama on our Cbox and please be
respectful. All posts can and will be monitored so if you do cause trouble, we will find out and it'll be dealt with accordingly.
[Final Words]If you have any issues, complaints, suggestions, then
PLEASE contact ABS! or CHINA! by e-mailing us to our board e-mail address. Do not post it in the shoutbox, especially if it's personal or negative. We wouldn't want the world to know about it. Be respectful, not rude. Please no rude comments, etc., anything like that.
