Actually, the leatherback turtle, for all intents and purposes, is warm blooded, sometimes even being found in arctic waters, so we do have a precedent for warm blooded reptiles- and plenty of modern reptiles care for their young as well, including crocodiles, who are among the dinosaurs' closest living relatives.

But given that birds don't hatch with feathers and grow scales (or vice versa, or any other group of vertebrates doing anything similar) it's a pretty safe bet to rule out the possibility of dinosaurs doing it as well.

if birds WERE directly descended from Tyrannosaurs, Re-evolving huge arms would be a bit of a challenge.

I read somewhere that one possible reason Rex had such short arms was that they needed to reduce the weight of their upper body, since their heads and jaws were so robust.

As far as I know Raptorex is legit. An interesting turn of events, but they really should have given it a better name. X:

Steering this thread back on topic with the work of another influential old school paleoartist, Rudolph Zallinger.

Along with the one in Knight's painting, this is probably the coolest looking T. rex I've ever seen.

Rather fierce-looking beasties! 8D

Allosaurus in the foreground of the last pic reminds me of a mutant man-eating Pachycephalosaurus. Must be the way the head is angled. :/ Looks dome-shaped from here

^It would appear the heavy-set dinosaurs of old have been given some vindication.

Turns out that, in an attempt to make their dinosaurs look sleeker and faster than the swamp-dwelling saurians of their forefathers, post-Dinosaur Reniassance paleoartists have been drawing their dinosaurs way too skinny. Anatomical studies have shown that dinosaurs had beefy hindquarters and thick tails like modern reptiles. It's actually sort of a reversal of a problem a lot of old paleoart had, where dinosaurs were often reconstructed with thick tails and hindquarters but scrawny lizard-like limbs.

Of course, they'd have already known dinosaurs had thick tails if they'd paid attention to The Land Before Time. :P

I'm still trying to put together what the hell this thing is. It looks nothing like any dinosaur that I've ever seen and looks more like something you'd see waddling around Jabba's palace.

Hey! It was from a movie that was just about as scientifically accurate..
