At long last, here's the Wizardry Empire (II): Staff of Restoration (Fukkatsu no Tsue) bestiary I've been laboring away at, off-an-on again, for months (you may recall the thread I started some time ago about the Death Slime and its insane ability to permanently drain 99 experience levels). I'm still missing one monster and nine items, and many of the translations could use improvement, but I'm tired of working on this project in general, so I thought I'd publish the considerable amount of data I've accumulated. In addition to monsters, I've also included sections on player character races/classes, spells, equipment, and maps. And, as a bonus, I included all of the monsters exclusive to the first game in this spinoff series, Wizardry Empire I, which I also played through and completed whilst working on Staff of Restoration.

Another excellent Encyclopedia! This game appears to have one of the most diverse bestiaries in the series.

I quite like some of the last enemies in the game, particularly the "Gap in the Void thing" and the "Thought-Born Thing."

This is a really amazing undertaking here. I'm sorry I haven't posted yet on it.

I plan on going through it sometime in the future and asking questions about specific monsters (God's Bowstring Thing?)

"God's Bowstring Thing" is pretty much a literal translation of the Japanese name, as far as I could tell. The final bosses in Wizardry: Empire #1 seem to have kind of a cosmic/otherworldy bent, which is kind of odd, as the final dungeon levels all take place in the deepest layers of the Abyss where, given the setting and D&D's influence on the franchise, one would expect to see Demon Lords of some type or another.

I blame outer plane outsourcing.

I was actually more interested in what things do. Like if they seem to specialize in one school of magic, or have a super high attack power, or have certain status ailments.

Anyways these are my questions:

Box

Kali

Kamui

Kirin

Reguna

Antiquity Thing

Beyonder Thing

EX-Convict Firewood

Gap in the Void Thing

God's Bowstring Thing

Star-Seizing Thing

Thought-born Thing

The bestiary entries don't list what schools of magic any of the creatures have, only that they can cast magic. For high level boss creatures, it's not uncommon for them to have Level 7 mastery in both the Mage and Priest schools. Additionally, while I never really paid attention while I was fighting them, the Valiant, Avenger, Kunoichi, and Musashi enemies probably use their respective schools of unique magic rather than Mage or Priest spells (unfortunately, there aren't any Summoner-type enemies).

Attack power isn't listed in the bestiary, and, short of hacking the ROM, or finding a site that lists their attack rolls, I can't tell you more than that. Generally, the stronger a creature is, the harder it hits, so, you can estimate a creature's relative attack power by how much experience points it gives. The high level bosses and monsters hit very hard (usually several hundred hit points of damage), and usually have several nasty status effects, decapitation, or level drain, tacked onto their physical blows.

The status ailments each creature can inflict are all listed in their respective entries, albeit in Japanese, but that's what the Key at the top is included for.

Gotcha. I wasn't expecting EXACT figures or anything.

I guess if I needed just one thing explained, do you remember anything interesting about Ex-Convict Firewood?

I'm none too certain about the accuracy of the name "Ex-Convict Firewood", but that is a literal translation of the Japanese (assuming I translated it correctly to begin with). Although I believe the Firewood part of the moniker was more accurately a ceremonial burning of fragranced wood type of thing (which is obviously kind of hard to translate into a monster's title.)

There isn't any special text or anything before you fight an Ex-Convict Firewood. They, along with Star-Seizing Things and Beyonder Things, are just REALLY strong normal enemies on the 570th Level of the Abyss. I tend to avoid fighting any of the three of them, if I can help it, simply because of how dangerous they are and the time and expenditure of spells it takes to bring them down (and, of course, they certainly don't show up for the fight without a full complement of lesser minions), although they are worth quite a lot of experience points.
