This is a pretty neat short. It was actually made in the 80s, but it looks and feels like something from the 40s or 30s.

Night on Bald Mountain. 'Nuff said. Actually, no, I feel the need to say more. This is one of my favorite Disney shorts of all time, maybe because I'm into the macabre stuff. This is also one of the first works that truly accompanies the magnitude of Satan (or Chernabog, in the short). He calls followers up from the depths of Hell, turns his arms into a corrupting black ooze, and his mere shadows are enough to raise the dead. He's not some affably evil demon on a throne as in most interpretations. He's left mostly in shadow for the whole short, never leaves his mountain, and doesn't seem to have a purpose to his evil. And don't even get me started on the demon designs.

This is a pretty obscure Terrytoons cartoon from 1930. It's adorably racist and unexpectedly surreal—I can't stop watching it, at least to the 1:30 mark or so:
I'm also a big fan of ComiColor Cartoons, which was founded by Ub Iwerks (creator of Mickey Mouse) after he split from Disney in the 30s. They were never very successful, but for a while they were very productive, and their films could be wonderfully bizarre.
This is a favorite of mine—it's a pretty coherent story by their standards, and the music is fantastic. (I've actually sampled its music for an animation I'm working on.) I love how diabolical Old Man Winter is:
This one has some hilarious, grotesque animation in it; at times it reminds me of Flapjack and I wonder whether it may have been an influence. I love the grotesquely detailed closeups on the blue guy's hands:
This one takes an absolutely ridiculous premise and runs it to its only possible conclusion. I love the strangely phallic Pincushion Man:

Oh Housemaster; that was one of the first flash animations I ever saw, and to this day I hear his voice whenever someone on the Internet types in elite speak or says something completely asinine. In the upcoming John Dies at the End film, I hope Korrok sounds like him.
But yeah, you have to love how much of a mass murdering freak Pincushion Man is.

And later he gets a crane with a wrecking ball while he sells home owner's insurance! I can only assume his idea of "insurance" is similar to a protection racket.
