I cannot beleive that we have not done this sort of thread before, as D&D has such a great assortment of monsters that really need mention on here. So, that is what this topic is for, to post your favorite D&D monsters, the more obscure the better. Now, I'll start with one of my favorites...

THE FROGHEMOTH!
I mean seriously, how has this guy not been featured on here? It's a giant frog with tentacles and eyestalks for christsake! That is why it is one of my favorite monsters from D&D, and it's a shame they haven't put it into 4th Edition yet.

So, what are your favorite D&D monsters?

There's always room for Gelatinous Cube.

If I remember correctly from the Book of Vile Darkness, there is a demon prince of slimes, jellies, and puddings too. What was it's name...?

Jubilex was his name, if I recall correctly.

Oh yeah, that guy.

"Juiblex, also called The Faceless Lord, is the demon lord of Slimes and Oozes. Juiblex's lair is on the 222nd layer of the Abyss, which he shares with Zuggtmoy, the Demoness Lady of Fungi. In Gary Gygax's Gord novels, Juiblex is alternately called Szhublox. His appearance is Lovecraftian, with its reliance on viscerate themes."

And he has a servant called Darkness Given Hunger, which is an sentient pudding and doesn't afraid of anything.

QUOTE (Matamata @ Mar 23 2010, 06:13 PM)
I played a Goblin Slime Catcher in one game.
It was a custom class that specialized in capturing slimes and oozes and then using them as biological weapons.
He used a complex vacuum backpack apparatus to do the job
A hose attachment was used to suck up slimes which were then stored in separate portable holes in the back pack. He could then reverse the flow and select a slime to unleash upon the enemy.
The best part about this was that he NEVER really had control over the slimes he just aimed and hoped for the best.
Despite wearing acid resistant armor he was eventually digested by one of his pets

Surely you must tell me more! I want to hear the story of this awesome character. What a great concept!

I think we do have a thread for D&D monsters somewhere, but it's long buried.

I wish people did more with the neogi, aka naga spiders. They rape their elderly until they EXPLODE with babies! HOW COOL IS THAT?
Also they got a pretty funny spot in the Dragon Half manga biggrin.gif

The tsochar (plural: tsochari) is a mind-controlling internal parasite consisting of multiple worm-shaped organisms forming one composite being. Man, Lords of Madness had the best stuff.

The skin kite is an undead composed entirely of skin, which will tear off your skin to replenish its constantly rotting self.

DnD kicks ass, man.

Juiblex isn't just from the book of vile darkness, he's one of the originals from the very first Monster Manual. his first illustration, to this day, is still the only one I find really, really cool:

This doesn't show off all the dribbly details, sadly, but there's something about this particular drawing that's just so incredibly disturbing and has never been captured in his artwork since.

Zuggtmoy was far more interesting as a dumpy puffball. Why does everything female HAVE to be sexy? I like hot monster chix too, but I hate when it's so arbitrary.

One of my all-time favorite monsters has also been gutted; the THOUGHT EATER! Here's the absolutely kick-ass, highly creative original:

The whole concept of an invisible psychic predator that resembles a pitiful, goofy duck-billed critter is just wonderful.

The last time it was published, however, it was reimagined as a ghostly lion with an eagle's head. WHAT THE FUCK.

But while I'm here, never forget the sheer terror which is...

THE BRAIN MOLE.

It, uh... it drains your psionic energy. But I like to imagine that instead, it burrows into your brain.
And let's pretend that instead of looking like that, it resembles the cortical homunculus (talpidulus?) of the naked mole rat:
