I'm sure you're all familiar with bootleg games that have gone memetic, like Crazybus, Mario Lottery, and Super Donkey Kong 99. But have you actually owned/played any unlisenced video games (not ROM hacks) yourself? Please share your experiences.

I once had a Game Boy multicart that had that goddamn Sonic Adventure 5 which seems to infest every Game Boy multi, as well as some an odd Prince Of Persia-style pirate thingy I can't seem to remember the name of.

By the by, here's what our old friends at Hummer (who made the NES Aladdin port) have been up to:

Infringing intellectual property? I expected better of you, a 'woman'. Usually y'alll are the more empathetic sex, but I see that fair trait of your kind has not worn off on you.

How much you wanna bet Tsar has umpteen copyrighted MP3s on his hard drive/tablet? rolleyes.gif

Anyway, it was actually my brother (who was a garbageman at the time) who found the aformentioned GBC multicart. It was literally lying on the side of the road, so he figured why not? Or at least that's the story he tells me...

Another odd pirate game I encountered was from a plug-n-play Famiclone I tried at the mall. It was a Donkey Kong Country clone, but with Donkey Kong's sprite switched out with Mario ones! All the other games were perfectly normal ones like Contra, Macross, Super Mario Bros. and Mappy.

Here's Jing Hua Yuan, one I literally just discovered. It's a Contra clone with two unusual things about it: 1.) there's an overworld and 2.) you fight youkai!

Sadly I don't have any wacky bootlegs, but I did see this game cart on the internet a long time ago and always found it memorable:

Also that bootleg youkai contra thing actually looks sort of fun. A lot of the enemies don't look like youkai though...

Looking back, the Donkey Kong Country thing might have been a hack of Panda Prince (such games are common in Famicom multicarts), but I recall a map screen shown just before the first level which doesn't do anything.

Oh yeah, and...

Hey, SpaceNinja88's old account is back...somehow.
Here's his review of another game that seems to find its way into every Famicom multi, Magic Carpet 1001: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofzCBcYjlhw

Holy christ, I remember Kirby Red Diamond from all the way back in like, 2006 or so, when I was a member of a Kirby forum. They were all WHAT IS THIS and since everyone on the forum was young and naive (myself included) we did not immediately call bullshit and had people like dissect the cover art and determine what was ripped from where.

Ahhhh, memories.

Jing Hua Yuan's title is based on this novel. I haven't read it yet so I can't say if it is about a dude magically killing demons (which happens surprisingly often in Chinese high literature.)

Resurrection! I don't know if these are all legitimate, but the first one and the Ben Ten one are fucking demented if they are.

god yes, virtualnes has a small library of bootleg nes games THAT YOU CAN PLAY IN YOUR BROWSER

http://www.virtualnes.com/list/other/pirateoriginals.html

i especially recomend ROCMAN X
even though it's mostly unplayable since the first stage has an impossinle jump, the second stage has an unkillable enemy, and the third stage is a garbled mess of textures with a dead end. it's still pretty cool
http://www.virtualnes.com/list/other/pirateoriginals.html

kart fighter, which is streetfighter with mario characters
http://www.virtualnes.com/play/?id=HKO-KF

felix the cat, in which are feline friend goes on rampage punching cute critters and fish like he's fucking ken from fist of the northstar, also you collect hearts to transform into a knight...
http://www.virtualnes.com/play/?id=HKO-FX

gaiapolis, which is a pretty cool beat em up with some neat enemies, sadly it's really repetitive. it took me a while to find out you can use items by pressing a+b and i did so by accidentily SUMMONING A GIANT DEMONIC SKULL THAT KILLED EVERYTHING, and then i hit a dead end on one of the levels
http://www.virtualnes.com/play/?id=HKO-GP

and "DEPRESSING SOVIET TOM AND JERRY"
http://www.virtualnes.com/play/?id=HKO-TJ
