A guy I know on DeviantArt is trying to figure out what a game he played long ago is, and I drew a complete blank when he asked me, so I figured there was a good chance somebody here might know what it is (it does involve a giant eyeball after all). This is what he remembers:

I'm trying to find the name of an original Nintendo game I played as a kid. It was a side-scroller where the final boss was an eyeball hanging from the ceiling. The ceiling moved up and down, and the eyeball dripped a fluid that hurt you if it fell on you, but hardened if it hit the ground, so after a while stalagmites formed which you could shoot through.

I have other memories that I think come from the same game. Your avatar was a macho guy, and the setting was an alien-infested city with skyscrapers. There was a long platform level where some of the platforms were big bugs, and if you stood on one for more than a second or so it would kill you. But the only thing truly clear in my mind is the slime that solidified into pillars.

Any help/insight would be appreciated!

The final boss of Super C isn't a giant eyeball--it's that weird frog thingy with crab legs that has a human face that opens up from its stomach and spits out crap (Jagger Froid or some such similar nonsense is it's "real" name--it reappears as a sub-boss on the final level of Contra: The Alien Wars too).

That is not out of place for a Contra game.

It's most definitely not Contra or Super C on the NES, 'cuz I've played through both of those many times and would definitely remember any giant eyeballs that create platforms from one of those two, however, I haven't played through Contra Force on the NES, so it could conceivably be from that one.

This is the final boss of Super C I was talking about:

Well, it stars Ken Masters, so I wouldn't say it has absolutely nothing to do with Street Fighter. Never played all the way through that one, so I couldn't say if it's the game in question or not.

I think you're right, when I heard the description Street Fighter 2010 is what came to my mind as well. It's a lousy game, it's better to just watch Spoony's review of it.

Street Fighter 2010's final boss is this:

Which has eyeballs (I think?), but otherwise doesn't really fit the description. It certainly isn't an eyeball hanging off a ceiling.

BINGO! Just did a quick search at GameFAQs on Streetfighter 2010 and found this text:

"Now this is a unique level. The cieling is in constant movement,
swaying up and down, and attached to it is an eyeball, as well
as 6 cavities that release a glob of goo every few seconds that,
when in contact with the ground, turns into solid matter. This
builds up and creates constantly growing pillars. Along with all
of this, you have to put up with more seeker drones."

Many thanks, Acidonia, I knew the Bogleech community would deliver!

Cosbydaf: You're right, it's not the final boss, the FAQ says the eyeball deal-y is on level 8.

Scythe has probably heard of it. Maybe we should check the game sprite archive?

Actually, it doesn't star Ken. In Japan, the character is called Ken Striker. And yes, it is still called Street Fighter overseas.

Yes, that eyeball boss definitely sounds like this guy:

He's not the final boss, but I think he should have been.
