Let me introduce you to the monsters of another of my favourite Tokusatsu shows,
"GARO".
Horrors are fictional monsters in the Tokusatsu series GARO. Originally from a demon world, the Horrors appear in the human world, attracted by the darkness inside human beings that they feed on. The Horrors come in many forms; they usually come in a black-winged skeleton humanoid form that can fly and feed upon humans. Beyond the basic skeletal humanoid form, various Horrors take the form of an object to kill their prey. Others are animal themed such as a fish or a spider. These Horrors don't revert to a skeletal form. Based on the object or animal form taken, they might revert back into a mechanical or mythical monstrosity.

Each Horror has unique tastes, feeding on specific emotions and taking over the human as host to stalk other humans to feast on. The Horror can cooperate with its host's blackest desire or completely take over the human being to feed upon its emotions. Horrors can manifest spiritual energy into physical objects such as chains or become objects like a watch to ingest a human. Each Horror tends to prepare the human or play with its food first before eating. Though they tend to look alike, their forms appear differently when bursting out of the possessed human depending on the matter it appeared in the human world and its matter of consumption. The Horrors also gain new abilities in their new forms. However, once they use up the energies of their host they return to their basic form most of the time. Occasionally when a Horror is defeated the host is returned to his/her original human state, but dies shortly thereafter.
However, Horrors can never truly die so long as darkness exists in the hearts of men, so upon a phyiscal death, the Horror's essence is sealed within a Makai Sword until it removed is bound into a dagger that is trusted to the Knight's Watchdog to be sent into the Demon World to be permanently dealt with.
Angrey: The 12th Horror to appear. Posed as a female nude portrait within a painting until the gallery owner, Taisuke Taniyama, found it and was possessed by it. The monster had a taste for young women, liquifying them into paint for consuming, and targeted Kaoru. Angrey is also a known trap user, able to bring art to life. But Kouga's appearance forced the monster to lockdown the art exhibit. In the fight with Kouga, the Horror burst out from its host and manifested itself into a painting, gaining an acidic paint-muck exterior with a frame collar until it regressed to its original form when GARO killed it. Kaoru was stained by the Horror's blood.
Ishtarb:The 13th Horror. Emerging from the "Chain Gate", it possessed the body of Kujo Azusa, a con-woman who took advantage of money-minded people using an IT company as a front. Using her host's plan, Ishtarb used money to lure her victims to meet her at nighttime. From there, she would ripped them to shreds with chains shooting from Kujo's body and ingest the pieces caught by her chains' links. She was about to kill Kaoru when dumb luck and Kouga stopped her. During the fight Ishtarb altered her host's form into iron maiden-like armored form. GARO killed her in a parking lot.
Morax: A unique Horror that has no need for a human host. Morax was once said to have wiped out an entire village in one night. Possessing a time-piece, altering it into a variety of forms, Morax lures those driven by time to pick him up. Once he has a hold on his victim, by after dusk, it de-hydrates the victim until only dust remains. Forced to use humans as host, Morax took advantage of Kouga's sympathy for humans to escape. Once he captures Kaoru, Morax assumed the form of a clock tower. Though he was armed with arsenal of bladed arms, Morax was killed finally by GARO, ripped out of his vessel as it crumbles to the ground.
Pazuzu: A Horror that first appeared around the time Taiga was alive. He took over the body of Dr. Tategami, making him a miracle worker of a surgeon. However, it is so that Pazuzu can kill the patients in their happiest moment to drain them of their euphoria-enriched blood for nourishment with the scalpel-bladed tendrils from the back of his head while leaving the remains for his Horror minions. To ensure he would eat without interference, he erected a barrier to put any Makai Knight at a disadvantage. Kouga had trouble until he used Kaoru to remove the seals that power the barrier. Upon Pazuzu's last moments, he pleas to devour Kaoru as his last meal. Utterly repulsed by this idea, GARO delivered the final blow, thus ending his reign of terror.
Lunarken:A moth demon, possessing a woman who tried to commit suicide as the result of a man's insensitivity. She remained dormant in her zombified host until the full moon, when where her bloodlust is at its zenith. During the fight, GARO realized the host is nothing more than a puppet composed/filled with moths. The actual Lunarken is the orb like weapon the puppet uses in its attacks.
Utokku:A corpse-like horror that appeared in a graveyard and possessed the body of a middle-aged prostitute Kotomi, making her young again and giving her beautiful body. In return, Kotomi used her beauty to lure men for the Horror to devour using the eyes as a medium to suck the life out of the victim's body before he explodes. During the fight, she could launch graveyard tombs to attack Kouga & Rei before Utokku took over. Once Utokku is killed by GARO, Kotomi soon was fatally wounded, begging for help. But as GARO stated, she is already dead because she allowed the Horror to possess her in the first place as her body disintegrated
Moloch:A horror attracted to the sadness of Misato Kosugawa, a woman who killed six young men and collected their fingers after her pianist boyfriend committed suicide for being robbed of his dream. The Horror raped/possessed her, using her intent to kill the remaining four for their fingers while eating the rest. In its true-form, Moloch's body is two-toned (flaming on the left, icy on the right). She had control over the elements of ice and fire, and could launch its hands to attack its enemies or kill its victims. GARO killed Moloch, with only the ring Misato have from her boyfriend remaining. Later the father of Misato, Kami Kosugawa obtained the ring, along with the Horror's essence dagger and special bullets forged from other purified blades. Intend on revenge for his daughter, Kami used the bullets to create a pack of Horrors to help him kill Kouga. But after they were all killed, and he was denied death, he stabbed himself and became Moloch's new host. However, Kami felt the pain that his daughter suffered and had GARO end his misery before the demon fully consumed him.
Humpty:A Horror that manifested from a construction rubble to become a giant with strong armored body that seems invulnerable to the GARO Blade. GARO managed to kill him with the aid of Gouten and the Garo-Zan-Ba blade.
Asmodai:A clown-like Horror who possessed the body of pierrot. Using the red nose and his puppets, Asmodai forces his victims to show "their nature", turning them against each other in a fight to the death. Once they are dead, he turns them into beach balls to ingest. He is giant-sized in his true form, using his arms for locomotion. Though he attempted to con GARO, he was killed when ZERO lopped off his red nose.
Dantalian:A neon-green Stag Beetle Horror who possessed a con artist gambler, tricking people to play a fixed coin game and after they lost, sealed their souls inside the coin. After he took Kaoru, he brought Kouga into his alternate realm with three games of chance to save Kaoru's soul. After the third, Dantalian assumed his true form out of rage to lower himself to physical combat and was defeated by GARO. But, the Horror set up a final challenge for Kouga upon his death that Kouga managed to succeed.
"Uncle":A Horror that appeared during Taiga's time as GARO. Possessing the body of a homeless toymaker, he befriended Kouga whom he used as a shield to protect himself from Taiga, but Taiga mortally wounded the host so that the Horror ripped itself out, resembling a reddish version of its original form, in a vain attempt to kill Taiga. It was from that ordeal that Kouga understood the treacherous nature of a Horror.
Gargoyle:A Horror that took the body of Kouhei Kuramachi, a sculptor who sold his soul to the "devil" to possess the "Hands of God" to create the ideal sculpture. Using his "gift", Kouhei used voodoo sculptures to torture his victims (young women) to death before sucking them down face first. He attempted to kill Kaoru when she hoped to learn more of her father through him, as she thought Kouhei had met her father; she found out Kouhei actually never met Yuuji, but was only inspired by his work. Gargoyle was killed by ZERO, with a dying Kouhei in awe of finally finding his "ideal piece" just before ZERO killed him.
Haru:A Horror that possessed a fish, she used a shut-in programmer Tonuma whom she befriended to get her prey, killing women dumped into her tank and taking their attributes to become more human and move about on land without trouble. Tonuma was about to feed Kaoru to Haru as the final victim when Kouga arrived and exposed Haru, and killed the weakened monster, much to Tonuma's dismay. Though tempted to kill Tonuma, Kouga managed to control his anger and only knocked him unconscious. Haru's final words, how Kouga used Kaoru to get to her, caused a rift between Kaoru and Kouga
12-piece Fusion Giant Horror:A Horror born from the twelve purified blades containing the invading Horrors Kouga and Rei defeated. Much larger than others, GARO and ZERO were unable to defeat it. In the end, the monster was killed/absorbed by Barago.
Bonafaltz:A skeleton gunman, created from a security guard of a museum by Kami Kosugawa, using one of the special bullets made from Horror essences provided by the Watchdogs, in his attempt to avenge his daughter's death on Kouga.
Messiah "The Ultimate Horror":Messiah is the originator of all Horrors and existed since the beginning of the conflict between Makai Knight and Horror. Messiah is the most unusual Horror because she's the only Horror that appears almost perfectly human in form, resembling a giant half-naked woman with unique jewelry and tattoos around her head and shoulders. Her back contains a Taoist round disc.
Though Messiah longed to enter the human realm, but despite all her powers she couldn't cross through without a large source of energy. Somehow she led the Makai world to assume that absorbing Horrors will make them stronger, knowing there would be a person(s) desiring power badly enough to find her to become all powerful. Barago at first thought Messiah would be his final Horror to absorb, but ironically, she absorbed him using Kaoru's body as a gate medium upon being awakened. Her plans to reach the human world were foiled by Kouga, who entered the demonic world and defeated her with spiritual help from Kaoru while Messiah was overconfident with her powers, strucking his sword into her head and releasing KIBA in the process as Messiah is forced back into her dorminant state.
Her powers include ultra-human strength, high combat capabilities (while possessing Kaoru), magical shielding, magical energy attacks, able to summon Horrors by merely touching the ground she walks upon, and flight. The full range of her powers were never revealed, suggesting she has a larger range of combat capabilities.
Other monsters that appear in the show:
The Grou Dragon:The Grou Dragon is the guardian of the Barankas fruit. Grou is a sentient mechanical dragon created by the Makai that resides inside the Glen Forest and hunts the Horrors there. He has a main dragon head on the top and four sides to his body (almost cube-like). His cube-like body has a rustic color and when he speaks he rotates it to a different side of his body. Whenever he reacts to some thought his body makes a turn. Two sides of his body have a white naked woman statue, the front side a white gothic skull of a creature, and the back side with just gears that resemble the yin/yang sign. Grou has a blaster-cannon, his statues are actually large mechanical claws, his gothic skull is actually a claw and grinder, and his gear side has multiple mechanical tentacles. He has four mechanical legs and his back is capable of bringing out two large wings for flight.
His only purpose is to destroy Horrors, but when he encountered Kouga he was curious about Kouga's nature to protect people. He challenged Kouga to a fight to examine his need to protect (save Kaoru) and offered him the Barankas Fruit as a victory prize if Kouga could defeat him with all his strength. Grou helped Kouga summon his armor and his rider Gouten to fight. Kouga almost lost to him, but ZERO stepped in to assist him. Kouga thought he lost the fight because he had help, but Grou said that if Rei lend his power to Kouga, that's also part of his power. Grou then vanished and Silva remarked that Grou was never alive and that the power of the Makai will eventually recreate him.

a teddy bear that turns into a monster.
The Eastern Watchdogs/GULM:The Eastern Watchdogs are three ancient priestesses of the Eastern Watchdog Castle, they assumed the forms of three little girls in white angelic clothing. Their names starting from oldest to youngest (left to right) are Keiru, Beru, and Rosu (A pun on Cerberus). Their thoughts are so unified that they sometimes complete each other's sentences in conversations. Centuries ago they were chosen to be the link between Makai and the human world and, in order to work as such, given eternal youth. In a conversation between Jabi and Kouga it's revealed they used to be a single human being, but she split herself into three forms.
At first they performed their expected duties for Kouga, but later associated with Barago for the common goal of unleashing Messiah. During the early part of their partnership, the three misused Horror and Madou materials to try to kill those that interfere with their plans. In the process Amon and Jabi were murdered. They blamed Shizuka's death on Kouga, motivating ZERO to kill GARO. Purified Horror blades were used to feed Barago instead of force repatriation.
Later Barago brought a recently dead female human body to serve as a host for the Watchdogs' spirits. The Watchdogs revealed their true forms as three old women as they melded into the host body. The host, named GULM, enabled the spirits within her to leave their place in order to help Barago with his plan. Although GULM was apparently helping Barago to obtain immortality, she was really just using him to bring Messiah into this world.
According to the Watchdogs, Kodama is their son, although it is not explained whether they created him, or just considered him as one. She displayed pride over Kodama's growth as a fighter and expected him to be stronger. When Kouga became a berserker and killed him, GULM showed concern over his demise, and hatred when she was fighting ZERO.
GULM is able to summon her own Cerberus-style Makai armor. She fights using an arc and her fighting techniques (including invoking blue magic orbs) are similar to Kodama, but much stronger. She tried to stop Kouga from interfering with Messiah's plans, but was stalled by ZERO. GULM overwhelmed ZERO and was overconfident of the situation, leaving herself open to be impaled by Rei. After the fall of GULM, a new watchdog was assigned to the eastern district to direct ZERO on Makai missions.
Kodama:Kodama is the "butler" of the Watchdogs, Eurasian in appearance, and his relationship with them is that he is their son. Kodama's position has him serve the Watchdogs, carrying out their orders and protecting them from harm. He's highly skilled in martial arts and doesn't fear taking on a Makai Priest or Makai Knight. Though he was outsmarted by Jabi in their first encounter he took advantage of a momentary distraction from Jabi and Kouga to shoot her in the back.
Though apparently unable to talk, Kodama can use his voice to summon magical destructive blue orbs, and throw them at his enemies. The longer and louder he can shout, the bigger and stronger the magical orbs will be. In his last fight, Kodama transformed himself in what looked like a mixture of Horror and Makai Knight armor to fight GARO, but was easily killed by Kouga once he is possessed by his armor. His name is derived from the Japanese word meaning "echo."
Barago the Black FangBarago is the main antagonist of the series. He was once a talented Makai disciple of Taiga Saejima. Barago lost his loved ones to the Horrors and relied heavily on the powers of the Makai for revenge. But refused the right to become the next GARO, Barago's desperation for power grew and KIBA heard his need. Barago was lured into a forgotten lair filled with forbidden techniques. KIBA revealed his voice in a Madou Book. Inside the book was filled with forbidden techniques that can strengthen a Makai Knight. Barago desired power so much that he agreed to give up his body and soul to KIBA for vengeance. Upon reciting the incantations, the dark powers of the Madou Book flooded from the book and transferred into Barago.
The Madou taught Barago various skills, such as how to extend the Soul Armor's 99.9 seconds time limit and how to assimilate the attributes of Horrors through absorption; however, this came at the cost of his own humanity. Subsequent usage of the Madou's forbidden magics tainted the Soul Armor and reconfigured its form with more Horror-like features. He reckless use of the Madou twisted Barago's soul to evil, since then donning a black cloak. It was then that Taiga was forced to take action against him. Taiga -at the time the Golden Knight Garo- pursued his corrupt disciple and engaged him and combat. Their battle, however, would end in Taiga's death, but not before Taiga branded Barago with the "Mark of Death", believing it would kill him in a few days. But the Horrors dwelling inside Barago's body enabled him to elude death, though his face became horribly deformed. Barago is the only Makai Knight who transforms without a Soul Metal weapon, but instead a Madou necklace, blowing on it to activate it, then swinging it to become the Dark Knight.
Barago soon began to devise a plan to plant dark Yîn essence into objects to attract Horrors so he could personally absorb them and amplify his own power. Because of his amplified strength over years of absorbing Horrors, he's grown stronger than any Makai Knight. His ultimate goal is to absorb enough Horrors to fulfill immortality, as he came to learned from the legend of KIBA. In a dramatic grand display of power, Barago single-handedly absorbed a giant Horror (composed of twelve Horrors) using the AN-GA (Darkness Fang) Axe given to him by the Watchdogs, who address him as KIBA, yet those who see him always address him as Barago.
Murdering the previous Silver Fang Knight, Barago used a potion he stole from Rei's foster father to change his face, disguising himself as Karune Ryuuzaki, who is also Kaoru's personal psychiatrist and counselor. This was only a means for Barago to oversee Kaoru's wellbeing. His intentions and interest in Kaoru were revealed after analyzing the situation carefully amongst ZERO, Kouga, Kaoru, and Gonza. Over a decade ago he selected six girls as living gateways to help summon Messiah, and Kaoru was one of them. The Watchdogs allied themselves with Barago to help bring forth Messiah. Barago foolishly believed that Messiah would be his source of great power, but when Kaoru was possessed by her, he discovered he was just being used as a means to bring her to this world. Messiah "ate" Barago with little resistance, but his body returned to the living world after Messiah was defeated by Kouga, fully possessed by KIBA.
The Dark Armor of KIBA/KIBA the Dark Knight:The spirit of KIBA the Dark Knight influenced everything since the beginning. Though he called himself a Makai Knight, KIBA was no different to a Horror. KIBA's spirit resides inside what was once a grey colored Makai Armor that's filled with the dark knowledge of Makai Power. After sensing Barago's desperation for power KIBA revealed himself in a Madou Book that contained forbidden techniques. Sensing Barago's need for power he gave Barago knowledge and power of the forbidden Makai methods. Barago wholeheartedly agreed to give up his soul for power. When KIBA heard this, a dark wave of energy appeared, giving Barago his armor and power to do just that. As Barago absorbed Horror after Horror, KIBA eventually deformed into an organically pure black armor with a cape. Though Barago was devoured by Messiah, KIBA assumed full control over his host upon Meisha's defeat by Kouga. Now nothing more than a Horror as of that moment, KIBA returns to the real world and battles GARO and ZERO, only to be destroyed by GARO in a one-on-one swordfight.
These were the best pictures I could find of the Horrors. If you have better ones, let me know
