Gon

I came across this manga a while ago and got totally hooked on it.

Gon is a comedy manga that features the titular irascible chibi T. rex as he apparantly travels a palaeolithic world conspicuously lacking in any humans and gets into wacky shenanigans with the local wildlife.

It's a simple premise for a simple series, and it works. Of particular note is that Gon is a silent protagonist; the comic has absolutely no spoken dialogue or even any WOOSH BAM KAPOW-style sound effects. As such, Gon carries itself on the strength of its artwork, which to be frank, is gorgeous.

Gon is a great manga and anyone who likes animal stories and pretty artwork should give it a shot. X:

Oh man, I remember seeing screens of that in an old gamer magazine years ago. I remember thinking Gon was from some other obscure game franchise.

When you lose all your health, instead of dying, Gon goes crazy and cuts the Earth in half, and then proceeds to run around angrily in space.

Holy crap! I knew there was a Gon video game!
And it sounds awesome!

Alright, this is all well and good, but why is it in the science section?

sounds cute (despite my hate for manga). BTW, is Gon specifically referred to as a tyrannosaur? Because he looks more like an abelisaur to me.

BTW I always thought it would be cool to do a 'cute' dinosaur story where the protagonist is a little predator.

I thought I was being original. I thought it would be refreshing, instead of portraying the theropods as these monstrous baby-killers and the plant eaters as these peaceful hippies, I'd have all the carnivorous dinosaurs be 'intelligent' and have the plant-eaters portrayed as lumbering stupid violent beasts.

I even had a protagonist picked out: A cute little midget tyrannosaur with big sisters who always yell at him.

I guess the japanese already did it.

Those lumps on his head are kinda reminiscent of Majungasaurus. So are his retarded dinky arms.

CUJO, I think your idea is distinct enough from GON to be done.

I would watch it. Also japan probably did.

those definitely look like Abelisaur arms. (God I hope I'm referring to the right group here, it's the one that contains Carnotaurus I think).

Small, dinky, perfectly straight, and with more than two digits. (They actually had five, but two of them were pretty damn reduced).

Yeah, the abelisaurs. Carnotaurus, Abelisaurus, Majungasaurus, and all those others. The inbred hicks of the dinosaur age, according to Jurassic Fight Club.

They never specify what kind of dinosaur Gon is, nor does it really matter. I simply referred to him as a T. rex because to me he looks very much like a chibi version of an old Charles Knight Rex, especially in profile.





Couldn't think of anywhere else to put the thread, but it's a story about animals so I figured "Animals and Science" was as good as any. xp
