So, Xolta mentioned this game in the General Topic a while back, but I got it yesterday and I think it deserves it's own thread.
So, the basic mechanic of the game is a Metroidvania type thing, in which you have multiple weapons and tools that you have to use to progress through the levels. Yes, there is a lot of backtracking and searching involved.
The story takes place right after the events of Aliens. Since the Space Marine Corps or whatever lost contact with the military ship from Aliens, you must go investigate and search for the xenomorph life-form etc, etc, etc.
Instead of just having one character, you have a team of four marines: One is on point, the other three are on reserve. If your point marine dies, then you pick one that's in reserve. And also, death is permanent. If someone dies, they don't come back. Occasionally though, they're kidnapped and you have a limited time in which you can save them, so you have to go crawling through vents to get to where the aliens have wrapped them up into the wall.
You can also find marines in places, and you can recruit them into your team if you have open spaces. Which you will. Unless you're seriously good at video games, at least two members of your team will have died by the time you get to the second boss; most likely more.
Speaking of bosses, the boss fights are best described as "brutal". This game doesn't forgive, and it's not just the boss fights that present a challenge. The game as a whole is pretty difficult, but that doesn't mean it's not fun.
Honestly, if you're a fan of the Alien franchise at all, especially the second movie, then I would recommend getting this game. It's essentially an Alien game by fans for fans. In my opinion, it's the best Alien-related game to come out in a LONG time.
And also there's a level in the crashed ship with the Space Jockey and egg room from the first film, so there's that.
