New and... Improved?

Well, as per Chup's request, I saw Gummo to write an essay on it. I haven't written it yet, but the short version of my impressions of it is that I liked it. It's a very interestingly uncomfortable look into the slow crumbling of a society and the people becoming more and more accustomed to the sort of ugliness that they use to survive/cope but which also ironically sends them spiraling further downward.

And I get what he was going for with the dead cats, as a metaphor for the breakdown of social mores (Though I could be reading too much into it). I'd probably be more offended like some other people if I didn't know that they didn't kill any actual cats for the film.

Also, it's weird how Chup sort of reminds me of a Harmony Korine character, albeit far smarter and more self-aware.
