QUOTE (xolta @ May 11 2012, 03:19 AM)
Sadly that is true. Any ways I plan on seeing all of the phantasm series some time soon and would like to know if i should strat at the first one or if it dose not matter?

The series gets a lot out of plot continuity starting with the 1st film... but starting at 2 definitely wouldn't hurt the experience too much.

Some slasher films with more "monstrous" villains:

The Slayer
Absurd aka Anthropophagus 2
Night of the Demon
The Funhouse
Neon Maniacs

Holy shit, I remember Neon Maniacs.

Remembering Neon Maniacs is like finally recovering your memories of being abducted by aliens after many years of not fully understanding why your life is so painful.

Neon Maniacs is indeed on DVD.

One slasher-looking film that I have yet to see but want to is the awesomely titled MIKADROID: ROBOKILL BENEATH DISCO CLUB LAYLA.

....Okay, now my curiosity's been thoroughly piqued. What the hell exactly is Neon Maniacs? The wikipedia summary makes it sound like an unremarkable monster movie.

It is remarkable only in the various themed monsters (there's a samurai one, a biker one, a doctor one, etc), the complete lack of any explanation for their presence, and the fact that in the end they aren't so much defeated as they get frustrated and decide to leave.

"Friday the 13th" part 7. It's just a dumb guilty pleasure and I enjoy it for some odd reason. Also, "Candyman." I watched it after learning about Lacan's psychoanalytic theories in class (it plays a lot into some aspects of art theory) and was just blown away by seeing some imagery that I'm sure is a reference to the symbolism discussed in those theories. And hey, even if it wasn't an intentional reference, I'm still allowed to watch the movie with that in mind, aren't I?
