OK. since the dawn of the Sega Genesis there has been annoying qualities with video games, and they just keep coming, so what do you think should go doe in a corner and never be seen again? I think water worlds and games based on movies should be top on the chart.

I like water worlds. Their only problem is that the swimming controls usually suck in 3-d games.

I hate ice worlds, they're like an excuse not to put effort into color or texture, they always have dreary music and the enemies/bosses are often the same boring hairy beasts and blue crystalline things.

I'm not fond of fire worlds either, always the same.

In no order:

Random Battles

Ridiculously Long Reloading Times

Loading Times

Repetitive Gaming Protagonists (What happened to when gaming heroes could be a talking earthworm in a high-tech space suit or a trigger-happy, womanizing badass with a buzzcut using badass quotes from films?)

Wandering around for hours talking to people and exploring the same place over and over to trigger something, like in most RPG's (What's wrong with some hints or an arrow pointing to where the action is?)

Save Points

No auto-save

Memory Cards

Over inserting realism

No respect for the 16-bit and 32/64-bit era

Hard to manage inventory

Limited space in inventory

Sega's lack of balls

Boring voice-acting

15-minute respawn waiting in lobbies in online games

and more.....

All good points, I also have to add:

Over sized chests on women.

SONIC THE FREAKIN' HEDGEHOG.

Wii(insert word here) games.

Games that let you pick your own name but say the default name in cut-scenes.(starocean)

Games that let you pick your own name then just say nothing for 3 seconds in cut-scenes. (Baten Kaitos)

Games that are based on card games
(Yu-Gi-Ho)

Games that are based on shows that are based on books that are based on other shows that are based on manga.(pokemon)

Uh, what? Pokemon's video game came first, that should be common knowledge even if you've never played them....if you want to get ultra-technical, the creator tried to make a manga out of his idea many years before he got into the video game industry, but that didn't take off.

Also, pokemon's central video games are some of the most enjoyable and detailed of all time.

Besides animal crossing and silent hill, it's also the only video game series I've even touched in four years :/

Haven't played any PC game or xbox game (either xbox system) and only one wii game...

Well, sir, i respectfully disagree i believe the Pokemon series has been way too overdone, it should have ended years ago.

No, see, the ACTUAL pokemon games - the ones where you capture them, train them and battle against other teams - have only had four real installments in ten years, which isn't that much by the standards of any game series. Each consists of two versions you're only supposed to buy one of, and a single sequel/expansion sort of deal.

All of these have remained fresh, taking what made the originals fun and only adding more depth.

It only resembles a much bigger franchise to outsiders because of the high volume of spinoffs. That doesn't detract from the quality of the core games, and those certainly shouldn't have ended...there haven't been ENOUGH of those, they're the games that actually introduce more monsters, what the franchise is all about. We're up to about 500 pokemon now, and that's not near enough for a monster-centric franchise. I won't be satisfied until there's at least a thousand to pick from!

In comparison, Zelda has had a new full-blown game or two almost every year in the same timespan, and takes itself far too seriously. I haven't played and enjoyed one since...um...ever, actually sad.gif

Have you guys seen the latest Zelda game coming out soon? The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks? Link drives a train! I've never liked Zelda either, but I might at least rent this one.

You know what game series needs to die? Spyro. The purple dragon and his pet dragonfly who run around collecting gems and killing mutant rhinos (and in the one gam random dinosaurs)? Don't get me wrong, some of the games were cool. I played Enter the Dragon on PS1 and Enter the Dragonfly on PS2; Dragonfly is really cool and atmospheric, and Dragon still ranks as one of my top ten favorite all time games. Then they ruined it in A Hero's Tail, with new terrible voice actors, worse graphics than the PS1 game somehow, confusing levels, and totally uninspired gameplay. All the games after that were just as bad, and now it seems to be taking a turn for the emo. But the older ones are still cool.

I've never had a problem with elemental worlds. Ice worlds are usually samey an annoying, but the one in New Super Mario Bros. instantly won with the Snailicorn enemy, a one-horned bouncing giant snail. Genius.
Why are the only elements used for video game worlds ever fire, water, ice, and more rarely wind (when you're walking on clouds up in the sky)? Let's see some creativity! Give us a metal world, or like a wood world, or something.

This is a long post already, so let's continue: What should die in video games?
-The recent trend of no health meter
-Save points (come on, Metroid Prime 3, I just want to go to bed!)
-Uninspired use of the Wii's motion control or the DS's touch screen
-Ridiculous control schemes
-The recent lack of Pikmin

Yeah Sonic needs to die, along with Crash and Spyro

Also:

Dramatic, story-based RPG's with a personality-less main character, except maybe Zelda (C'mon, wouldn't Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, Persona 3 have been better if the main character had some personality?) Fallaout, Elder Scrolls, and monster-collecting sims are good with it though

Long and unskippable tutorials (GODDAMIT, I DON'T NEED YOUR FUCKING HELP ON HOW TO CATCH POKEMON YOU OLD PIECE OF SHIT! NOW LET ME START COLLECTING POKEMON ASSHOLE!) Also, monster-raising games where you have to spend a half-hour going over shit before you can collect monsters.

Lack of limited lives (C'mon, I want a challenge sometimes!)

Wii games where you have to fiddle with it when your in a hurry. (Lit's an awesome game, but I don't have time to fucking aim for a window when the area is getting lighter. Also, someone please delete the game's piece of shit ending. One of the worst game endings EVER.)

The only reason the Zelda series is still running is because Miamoto has an entire time line written and save on his computer he isn't just making up the games as the media and gamers demand.

I also must throw in that now that Mario has been in space it's only a matter of time until they run out of ideas and our plumber friend is cast aside for ever.

It may be hard to come up with a grander setting than THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE, but that won't stop future Mario games from being fun. Super Paper Mario was awesome, and I look forward to playing the new Mario & Luigi game where you adventure INSIDE OF BOWSER.
