I think I just had the greatest encounter ever in Skyrim.

My two followers and I found ourselves in a Forsworn camp, with at least a dozen Forsworn, including two Briarhearts. There was a Hagraven nearby as well. As you'd expect, a fight broke out and there was all out war between the three of us and all of the Forsworn and their Hagraven buddy. Now, before we even got one kill, I heard a roar and a Blood Dragon just drops in. One of my followers hung back and, in the commotion, picked off some Forsworn with her bow, while the other summoned a Frost Atronach to help us out. I went to go take on the dragon, which a few Forsworn had actually decided to attack as well, and it ended up burning a few of them to death. I looked back and saw that the Frost Atronach was battling the Hagraven and each of my followers was handling a Forsworn Briarheart. It wasn't long before the Hagraven and the Briarhearts were dead, and it was just the dragon and my party. Ultimately, the battle climaxed with all three of us on the dragon at once, me with my swords, one follower with a bow, and one with fire magic. Eventually, the dragon had had enough and knocked us all back a few feet. I had very little health and had left all of my healing potions in Honeyside, and I thought I was pretty much doomed. Just as the dragon was rearing up for attack, though, the Frost Atronach came back and interrupted its attack, just before dissolving away. That gave me some time to use the Dragonrend shout to keep it in place for a moment just before letting loose a power attack with my Daedric Sword, which ended up being critical. With that, the Blood Dragon let out a pained roar and fell over, dead.

Skyrim is probably the best example of emergent gameplay I've seen in a while.

Good site with build suggestions for characters.

Yeah I did the Companions stuff but got bored of it. After that went to go hang with the Dark Brotherhood. Bro'd it up with the other werewolf and Shadowscale

Yeah, I admit, I find them the least interesting guild:/ But usually the fighters guild stuff is less interesting, at least that is what I felt about the old games too.

My favorite thing about the Companions is when you join them at level 3 and their generic errands all consist of you going out to beat up old ladies. Then five quests later they decide that your granny-pummeling prowess has earned you the right to be admitted into the inner circle.

"You beat that old arthritic shopkeeper in a fistfight. How'd you like to be a werewolf?"
Chthonios Posted on Apr 4 2013, 06:35 PM
Yeah, I feel super awkward with that...so I tend to avoid it. I do not believe I've ever really played a werewolf character for long.

Argonian werewolves? What about Khajiit werewolves?

I really wish that beast-race werewolves retained some of their normal attributes.
MrWeasel Posted on Apr 4 2013, 06:22 PM
Does anyone else find Argonian Werewolves silly?

At no point are cleaning or cooking spells ever shown or implied, if commercially applied teleportation existed it would be a massive writing blunder to never show it, and everywhere you go in any game you never see lighting or heating systems (beyond what existed in medieval times anyway) being used.

In Morrowind, transportation consisted entirely of coast-hugging ships, horses, giant bugs who've had their vital organs exposed to the air, and walking. Sure, Mages can learn to teleport, but you never see any of them open their own shipping business.

It seems to me that with every game everything gets shuffled into fewer categories. Mysticism was it's own school of magic, but next time all it's spells are reclassified. I think it's a response to how the character creation system in each game is reacted to by the players. Having tons of skills in D&D works because the game isn't real-time, so players can think and review. In a real-time game, you need to be able to do what you need to quickly, so pruning the branches might have been seen as a good way to streamline gameplay. Then the legendary mess that was Oblivion happened, and when it came to designing the class system for Skyrim they just said "Fuck it.". Sure, they could have kept Mysticism, but it's basically just the Divination school of magic anyway, and they probably want it to be less obvious the whole thing started as some guy's D&D setting.

I have that problem too. For some inexplicable reason, it's really hard to role play as the person you made.
