If we were going to do that, it would probably be some over-the-top gritty apocalypse with pretty much the same plot and characters just Seriuz Kewl looking and all the enemies being mutants. |

I tried to think of how you could "XBoxify" Mario, and thought something like Bioshock could work. Outside of using a pipe wrench to bash in peoples' heads, I've got nothin.
Story wise, Mario's a blue-collar dude who has to rescue his high-society girl from a rich but unwanted suitor who uses his heretofore unknown criminal ties to force the issue. Probably not "Mature" enough, though. |

I suppose that's the nature of onomatopoeia; the sounds are going to be interpreted differently, based on how the language structures and 'parses' sound. For example, the "katchin katchin" Japanese onomatopoeia used to describe the sound of a clock works just as well as the English 'tick tock'.
