Title: sonic_didn't_go_fast_enough

FFStudios - July 14, 2012 05:20 PM (GMT)
As a preface, I'd like to say that I hate to submit this among so many fantastic entries in this subforum. However, this is something that I personally find sincerely creepy and thus, I'd like to share it with all of you.

Roughly two weeks ago, I was cruising through my Downloads folder doing my routine sorting (generally just deleting old .exe files, set-up files, etc) when I noticed something that I didn't really recognize. It was a file named "sonic_didn't_go_fast_enough.rape". There was some initial amusement at the concept that the file had the extension ".rape", but the amusement fizzled to curiosity. I checked my Chrome downloading history (which I barely ever clear) and there is no history of me knowingly downloading any file that was remotely related to Sonic, let alone with a .rape extension.

So, naturally, I started diddling with it to see what this file actually is. First, I changed it to a .txt file, and Wordpad just responded with a bunch of jumbled nonsense. I tried an MP3 file followed by a WAV file and still nothing. Finally, I tested it with a .jpg extension and voila! It turns out, it was actually an animated gif file. It depicts a 3D, animated Sonic taking one step forward, then just disintegrating into tons of bloody, fizzling bits. It loops over and over again. Now I thought this was pretty silly at first, it looked so absurd from the standpoint of "Hey, I found this weird file and Sonic just disintegrates in it".

Now, the strange part is that the file, as far as I know, will only open correctly on my computer. I've sent it to friends, I've tried uploading it to image hosters and file hosters alike and every time someone downloads it or tries to open it, whatever program they're using will tell them it's a corrupt file. If you all would like, I can attempt to upload the file (yet again) to prove to you that I'm not trying to trick you or anything. I know, for the sake of a cheap scare, people will intentionally corrupt their purported "cursed files". Now, this is neither a "cursed file" or a cheap scare, this is a genuine curiosity of mine. I've tried searching Google for "sonic didn't go fast enough", "sonic disintegrating", "sonic dissolving", and there are no traces of any file like the one I have on my computer.

Anybody have any ideas?

record it with a video camera pointed at the screen and upload it to youtube, then look in a mirror and say candyman 5 times.

I can take a screenshot for you, but in the mean time here's a copy of the file uploaded to my Dropbox.

The broken JPEG symbol I get from opening the page makes me want to pretend to be a-scared.

I knew when I was posting this that this was the response it was going to garner; however I must insist that I'm being very sincere. The gif has a small "gifsoup" watermark, so I know for sure that it's not some sort of "phantom ghost file" that makes me want to uncontrollably crap my pants in terror. It's just a matter of how this file came to be, and I figured people here, who have seen their fair share of creepypasta, might be able to give me an insight as to where it's come from.

E: I mean, you did notice that I specifically said this wasn't going to be an earth-shattering creepypasta, if a creepypasta at ALL at the beginning of my OP, right?

OuthouseInferno - July 14, 2012 05:39 PM (GMT)
Well, I fell for the trick, but it's like 2 AM where I am and i'm dumb so 4/10

What kind of a reaction were you expecting? People pretending to see the image and reporting conflicting details?

FFStudios - July 14, 2012 05:57 PM (GMT)
No, no, I was more asking if anyone knew where the image could be from. I know anything that's posted here should be taken with a grain of salt but I'm not kidding.

It took a bit of fiddling with the file but I got it to work, though it's different than the description

;P close, it really just has a few ZOMG ZUFALL links in it, a Facebook bookmark, and a few other websites like Youtube

This is why I think creepy pastas are dumb.

xolta - July 14, 2012 08:14 PM (GMT)
Is this a pardoy?

Pyro-Gibberish - July 14, 2012 08:28 PM (GMT)
Just say it's a creepypasta. Insisting it's real does not add any scariness. Look at the NES Godzilla Creepypasta; it was unnerving as fuck, and Cosby admitting at the beginning that none of it actually happened didn't change that. It was creepy even though we knew it wasn't real.
