Title: The Horrors of Youtube
Ragspaper - June 13, 2010 10:35 PM (GMT)
Bogleechy youtube videos, whether they're an existing thing that was uploaded to youtube, or something created specifically for youtube.
Anyone posts a rickroll, I WILL find you.
The Laughing Salesman is an anime series by one of the two manga authors who created Doraemon. While the style is very Doraemonesque, that's where the similarities end. The episodes are all short vignettes involving Moguro Fukuzo, a man who calls himself "the laughing salesman." What he claims to sell are cures for the loneliness and discontent of the people around him. However, he's not a kind man by any means, and the people he "helps" often end up far worse off than they were before.
The Separation and
The Cat With Hands are two short films by Robert Morgan. He's made other films but these are my favorites. Not entirely sure how to describe them actually, although I'm pretty sure The Cat With Hands has been mentioned on this forum before.

"The Laughing Salesman" is AWESOME, thanks for the link :D I've seen "The Cat with Two Hands," but "Separation" was new.
I'll have to post some links of my own, later . . . I have quite a few.

Marble Hornets.Marble Hornets is a series of youtube videos starring the Slender Man (who you may or may not remember from the short lived thread on monsters of the internet age). It's in the "found footage" horror genre, with the premise being that the main character's friend Alex has gone missing after an independent film shoot went horribly wrong. Before alex disappeared, he gave all the footage from the shoot to the main character, who, after said disappearance, started looking through the tapes to see if there were any clues as to what happened to Alex.
And it turns out there's some creepy shit on those tapes.
...
Also, I have a youtube channel with a few monster movies I made on it.

I thought this thread was about stupid YouTube commenters.
Ragspaper - June 17, 2010 05:06 AM (GMT)
Yeah, Laughing Salesman is great. There was a live action version but the guy they got to play Moguro Fukuzo is just not nearly as scary as the animated one. Plus they did this weird green-screen thing in an attempt to make him walk like Fukuzo does in the anime, and it just looks awkward and silly.
Sleep is a short horror film that features the creepiest depiction of the Sandman I've ever seen. The fact that the basis of this film is a very real disease makes it far creepier.
I already had a brief thread about Gypnerotomahia but I figured it deserved to be here too. What's it about? I do not know.
There was once a thread about Face Like A Frog. While it was set in a haunted house though, Face Like A Frog wasn't all that creepy. At least, not next to the animator's earlier work,
Quasi at the Quackadero.Hell Dream is not so much scary as surreal, but it is filled with monsters, and it is FUCKING METAL. (Might be NSFW for briefly-shown monsterdick)
Advantage is another short horror film, in which a couple ends up trapped in a tennis court by some evil force.
Frightride, an amazing example of how creepy claymation can be.
Finally, let's get some Max Headroom up in here.

I want more subbed laughing salesman, is that all there is? :C
Ragspaper - June 17, 2010 03:18 PM (GMT)
Shit, I just went to check and all the videos of Laughing Salesmen were taken down...
I'll email the subbers and ask if they're uploaded anywhere else.

I found a bunch of Laughing Salesman episodes on DailyMotion, in sequential order. They're all unsubbed, but they should be easy enough to understand anyway.

Re: The Patrick Stewart thing
Okay, imagine for one moment you work on a starship. You've been given the task of navigating the ship, and standing right in the same room with you is the captain himself. You await his orders. Then that happens.

I'd just assume that it was a replay of the episode "Allegiance" and I'd relieve him of command.

If fighting is the only sure way to victory, than you must fight!
Sun Tzu said that, and I think he knows a little bit more about fighting than you do, pal, because he INVENTED IT!

| Have you guys heard of that "Hand Thing"? |
YES.
That...person's videos are so compelling. I can still remember how baffled I was when I first saw the hand thing. I still have a dread of those unflinching mask-faces.
Ragspaper - June 21, 2010 03:14 AM (GMT)
Another film by Robert Morgan of The Cat With Hands fame. In my opion this is one of his weirdest.
THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS TO PEOPLE WHO DRINK ALL THE MILK. THEY GET THEIR NUTS KICKED OFF.
Revereche - June 21, 2010 11:19 AM (GMT)
That was AWESOME. Reminded me of my favorite Shakespeare character, Caliban.

I actually use the Cat With Hands as an avatar on another board.

This thread needs some Fleischer cartoons.
Bimbo's Initiation: I would not be at all surprised if I found out this was the inspiration for the SAW films. Features a jarring cameo by Betty Boop, in her original design as an anthropomorphic dog, and an even more jarring (and probably illegal) cameo by a certain cartoon mouse at the beginning.
Swing, You Sinners, another cartoon featuring Bimbo the dog, which, I theorize, depicts Bimbo being dragged to hell itself.
And finally,
The Cobweb Hotel, which I feel speaks for itself.
Wrinkledlion X - June 21, 2010 11:59 PM (GMT)
If we're talking about Betty Boop, I'd like to nominate
Minnie the Moocher. That rotoscoped ghost-walrus with legs is the stuff of nightmares.
Ragspaper - June 22, 2010 12:00 AM (GMT)
Ghost-walrus Cab Calloway was actually the main inspiration behind Oogie Boogie, apparently.

I saw Ragspaper hacking a servbot to get more than his daily allotment of B3! I even have evidence!
*cue poorly editted video of someone with Ragspaper's head just pasted over theirs. Too large and just one expression on it*

I think that's a trustworthy face. I trust that face.
And now, after Googling "Paranoia," I want to play it D:

I may be just a little late on this post, but I'm watching Marble Hornets through right now.
But it's getting dark outside right now.
I'm dreading to continue at night for the obvious reasons of night times atmospheric relevance.
Should I do it?
Dreamer - June 22, 2010 01:17 AM (GMT)
Well, if we're talking about creepy old cartoons, how about
The Mad Doctor. I mean, it's not really as gleefully twisted as the Fleicher ones because, ya know, its Disney-made, but it's still one of the darkest things they've done. I mean, the Mad Doctor is a sick bastard who wants to mutilate Pluto through grafting FOR SCIENCE!

...For the Electro-Wizard Graduate?
Revereche - June 22, 2010 01:22 AM (GMT)
DAMN THAT WIZARD
And do it, JL. Everything's better at night :D

No, it was supposed to say for science, but apparently they interpreted it as an emotiocn when I put it in Caps

You should've seen Electro-Wizard Graduate during his days as an Electro-Wizard Frat Boy. Vomiting lightning everywhere. Not a pretty sight.
