I know this guy goes way back before the time of many readers on this board, but Borgnine was a fine actor and an all around nice guy.

He was 96 and was still working! Now there's something to aspire to.

Borgnine made movies (won an Oscar in the 1950s for the lead role in the movie "Marty", the lowest budget movie of the year but great performances) and TV, most notably as the star of the iconic "McHale's Navy" in the early 60s.

There's a science fiction tidbit about Ernie too, he used to play a bad guy on the very first science fiction television show "Captain Video" on the DuMont Network sometime between 1948 and 1955.

Sadly no footage remains of his performance there because of the 1500 plus episodes of CV, only about 5 remain today. The network sold off all the videotape for the silver scrap!

Anyway, a great talent, a good guy passing away, more of the modern age slips away from us.

i've seen a few of his films. & he was a great actor. i shall also miss the guy. i just LOVE him in 'Basketball" that was as recent as (1998) i don't think age really matters man. he's done recent stuff or even shit like

"Escape from New York", "The P. Adventure' i'm to lazy to look up on how it's actually spelled. & if anyone here hasn't seen "Marty' which as it said he won an oscar in (1955) i believe he was fantastic in that.

great movie as well fellas. he was a hell of an actor as well.

"The Dirty Dozen' i've only ever seen the original & that's a great little film.
as well. i'm naming a few movies he's done so the younger guys here may get a chance someday to watch them. & he was only 95 when he died. either way that's a hell of an age to go out on ain't it?

I liked him best in McHale's Navy:

May he rest in peace.

BASEketball rules. And THE DIRTY DOZEN is one of my personal favorite war films. Sequels weren't too bad either.

RIP
