Im running an Intel I5 CPU with 4gb of RAM my computer starts up and runs fine for about half an hour and then it becomes so bogged down and the HD is constantly working that its near impossible to do anything at all. Ive run the following tools to try and remedy:
Disk Cleanup Windows Defender CCleaner (Registry/Internet Files portion of the program) Defragment (when I run it it says 0% fragmented after its been analyzed) Windows Safety Tool I changed the amount of Virtual Memory being used and I am now running a full system scan with Avast. While I ran the Microsoft Safety tool things seemed to be fine even 2 1/2 hrs into it I could still open windows and things then all of a sudden it dropped back to being slow as shit to even minimize windows and such. I have 226 GB of free HD space which is basically half of my total HD (452 gb usable) Any ideas other than backing everything up and clearing everything out? |

hmm, looks like you have done just about as much as you can in regards to what you can do with free software. i would suggest taking it to a repair shop or some place that has authorized technicians. back your stuff up first, but don't take it off your computer. hope you are able to get it in working order. i know how much it sucks to have computer issues.

When my motherboard crapped out, the computer would just build up stuff in the CPU and never clear anything out until it would get to 100%, and it would just shut down without warning. I got the motherboard replaced, it lasted another two years, and then started doing it again, so I just got another computer. That was with a Toshiba.

Mine would die after no more than 15-20 minutes once it got bad.

I'd try a clean install of windows before dropping a shitload of money on a tech investigation.

2nd'ed. Throw any important files on a thumb drive/external and reinstall. Or wait for the inevitable "get a mac" post |

Computers come with a disc that pretty much automate the whole process, often called a recovery or restoration disc or something like that.

It would be the easiest if you had a copy of Windows on disc, but if not, you can make an image and use that.
A lot of computers stopped coming with them, they make you make your own these days. If you go to Control Panel>System and Security<Backup and Restore, you can choose an option of "Create System Image". It takes the bare bones essential files from your computer and saves them to a disc. You can use that disc to start fresh. |

Ok well ive noticed when my computer starts to slow and I go into task manager and watch the CPU it is actually running only at like 22%. the thing is my RAM is maxing out at almost 3.8 gb or thereabouts and I only have 4Gb of DDR3 RAM. I went and bought 8gb and put them in and my laptop wouldnt start up, I put in a 2 and 4 and it wouldnt boot up either so i put back in teh regular 4 and its running like it was before. Fucking hell. I cant seem to find anything on why my RAM is filling up and slowing all my shit down to a crawl i have no programs running that arent essential to the machine ive deleted 10 gigs of my HD and ran multiple scans and it still bogs down after being on for a few hrs. I cant even backup all my stuff because it slows down the transfer from my external drive to my HD to basically nothing

You really shouldn't be using all 4gb of ram unless you are doing some serious video editing or something. When it slows, can you post a screenshot of your task manager's processes tab? Maybe you've got a program with a memory leak or something.
Have you tried starting in safe mode? Running just the essentials may isolate the problem too. |

I did do the Safe Mode deal and everything was fine when it was in Safe Mode. I posted on BleepingComputer.com's forum and a user told me to shut off a program Windows Media Service Player or something like that and it did the job.
Thanks for the help. |
