I noticed that many of the VCA characters have fatal flaws which influence many of their choices (well most characters except the two-dimensional ones the ghostwriter writes about). Some of them are harder than others and are pretty debatable and I'm not the best at analyzing characters wink.gif

Let's start off.

Cathy- I think hers was hubris. She started to think too much of herself and later started to realize it in SOY.
Jory- I also think Jory's hamartia was pride. Until he was paralyzed, he thought nothing could get in his way.
Olivia- Olivia was naive. She didn't believe Malcolm would dare rape Alicia and he did. She didn't believe Christopher and Corrine would fall in love and they did. Olivia didn't want to believe the things she didn't want to happen would occur.

Heaven: VCA explained this for us biggrin.gif
QUOTE
"You are wrong,
Heaven Leigh Casteel. I do know you very well. You are the most
dangerous kind of female the world can ever know. You carry the seeds
for your own destruction, and the destruction of everyone who loves you.
And a great many will love you, for your beautiful face, for your
seductive body; but you will fail them all, because you will believe
they all fail you first. You are an idealist of the most devastatingly
tragic kind-the romantic idealist. Born to destroy and self-destruct!"

Annie- self-pity
Leigh- dunno...too lazy to go and check

Dawn- naive
Christie- was too innocent. Therefore the rape came out of nowhere. She didn't believe her father could be as bad as Dawn described but she learned the hard way.
Lilian- Lilian was too hard on herself, mainly because of Emily. If she wasn't like that, then the moment Jed Booth raped her, she would've ran to Vera or Tottie. Instead, she continued to berate herself for being a curse. By the end of Darkest hour, however, she starts to realize that others were guilty of sinning--not her.

Ruby-dunno
Pearl-dunno
Gabrielle- innocence

I think Ruby, Pearl and Gabrielle all suffered the same trademark: too trusting and naive (which is pretty much standard Ghostwriter characterization of each character he has put out there but it's usually coupled with naive and annoying or naive and clueless).

LOL Dwight

But seriously, I think of all VCA characters, Gabrielle was one of the most innocent (if not the most). She was so passive and attached to nature that she didn't realize the danger of it until the end of the story.

Bart was a hard one. I think Bart was a struggling character who didn't feel he had a place in the world. I think he was too hard on himself. Not sure if that's his flaw though..
