Arden was alright...he was just a coward IMO. I didn't like how he cheated with Vera, though. That's just not good at all! I thought Audrina would divorce him, but she didn't.

About Logan:

I didn't quite feel sorry for Heaven after Logan cheated on her either, but somehow it was different with Troy. I Fallen Hearts, she says "But I had betrayed Logan with Troy. But it was different, I loved Troy. Logan could not possibly love Fanny, it was pure lust." I agree to a certain extent. I'm not saying if you're married and you love someone else you can cheat as much as you want, I'm just saying that with Heaven and Troy it more a closure issue. I mean, before then did they have a happy last day? No. Heaven and Troy's last night was more of a "I love you but can't have you, one last night, don't forget me" kind of thing. Logan was drunk and Fanny seduced him. That's as deep as that was. It WAS cheating, nonetheless in both cases. Same thing with Arden, lust and weakness.

^I could never understand how Heaven thought what happened between Logan and Fanny was worse than what happened between her and Troy. With Logan and Fanny, it was just a one-night stand. Heaven was madly in love with Troy, so I think her affair was far worse than Logan's.

I think I see what you mean, Clara Sue. With Logan, there was no chance he was going to leave Heaven in order to be with Fanny. He always regretted that night with her.

With Heaven and Troy, it *could* have ended up with Heaven choosing Troy over Logan, consequences be damned. No matter how much she loved Logan, I think a part of her always wished she could have had Troy instead... and would have chosen him in a heartbeat if Troy would have been willing to see it through.

(Not that I would have minded that... LOL!)

Maybe I just really wanted to see them together, and that's why I went along with her rationalization.

I actually like Arden's character and would reread the book because his character really appeals to me. For me, it's like reading about your typical boy next door. I always found his behaviour and decisions to be within reasonable limits, most especially when he ran away from the rape. Given his age and confusion, I think that it was believable that he would run and look for help (although that was never explained or supplied).


I DO agree that his complicity in Audrina's attempted euthanasia and his infidelity is deplorable, but I always thought that his apparent submission to Vera is a consequence of his rather dependent relationship with his mother.


All in all, the characters of this novel have their individual flaws which continually frustrate readers. As a reader, I think that VC Andrews's ability to grapple with melancholy and perversity in such an unprecedented way makes her (and her characters) immortal.

I really hated that Arden cheated on Audrina with Vera. That to me, was so messed up. And the rape thing, but as someone said, he was runing for help.
