AfterLight is a text-based role-playing game that is a mixture of both science fiction and fantasy. This means that both high-tech technologies exist alongside dragons and fairies. After a long ride, the two women approached a very large bubble. "Well, there you are," Kutsine said through the com speaker in her helmet. Kutsine paused, just above the shimmering dome and waited for the computer to take her registration code. A small hole opened and Kutsine landed on the ground, letting Kira off before putting away her hover board.

Kutsine handed the bag to Kira, then pointed towards one of the larger tents set up. "The CO is probably in that tent. But don't come to me when he makes you cry. He is a bit of a tight ass, if you catch my drift," Kutsine said.

There was a swishing sound and her helmet retracted, revealing her red hair and unnaturally blue eyes. "Anyway, follow me," Kutsine said waving her arm.

When they arrived at the tent, Kutsine popped her head in. "Knock knock! It seems I picked up something on my little exploring mission," Kutsine said to a dark looking man, sitting at a metal desk.

His piercing gray eyes swiveled upwards to glare daggers at Kutsine. "Such an excursion was not authorized. Aren't you fabricated humans supposed to obey instructions and orders without question?" He said in an icy voice. "If you repeat such an action, I will sent you back as defective and you will be dismantled immediately."

Kutsine snorted, "Yes, sir. However, I am not a machine. I am sure if you got creative you could dismantle me, but either way you look at it, it's murder." Kutsine then turned to Kira and pushed her forward. "Anyway, Mr. Sunshine, I found this off in the forest. It appears she had crash landed and gotten into a bit of a pickle with the natives. Never fear, however, a hero emerged to save the day."

Vlad, the CO, narrowed his eyes at Kutsine. "Enough. You are dismissed," he said bluntly.

Kutsine saluted, then turned and walked off. However, she didn't leave before spouting off some very foul insults in Tetro's language before she left the tent.

She marched off and then sat on a metal crate and growled. "So I am a meat shield, I get it. But could you at least be a little nicer?" She said to herself.

Tetroneaque was quite fascinated with everything he saw. He wasn't quite sure what was going on, but it appeared to be some rather potent sorcery. The only thing that was wrong was that it didn't seem to be magic. This was quite puzzling to him, as he wasn't used to such high-tech items. He was happy to find that no one had noticed that Kira's shadow had now sprouted a second tail as his concentration was beginning to take its toll on him. Soon he found himself inside the strangers' camp.

Oh, this is definitely big enough to get the Queen's attention. There's a whole camp of these people! To hell with what that adviser said, the Queen will need to be informed of all of this as soon as I can get word to her!

His thoughts of finally meeting his idol were interrupted when he finally got a good look at the invisible being he'd fought in the dungeon. It was another female! She wasn't bad to look at either. Her armor was rather imposing though, and so well fitting that he couldn't spot any chinks in it at all! He thought only his people were capable of such craftsmanship. Something else to include in his report.

Soon he found himself being taken into some sort of command tent. At least that is what he assumed it was. The person sitting inside certainly seemed to have that air of authority of self importance most commanding officers seemed to posses. It must be the same with every race. He mentally chuckled at that.

He listened to the conversation, though he was unable to make out anything at all. At least not until the blue eyed female left and said a few very choice words under her breath. He couldn't help but let out a giggle at that. He stopped himself as soon as the noise escaped his mouth though, as making noise had further strained his concentration on his spell. Kira's shadow was now sporting three shadowy tails now, and Tetroneaque knew it was only a matter of minutes until he could no longer hold on to her shadow and would pop out for all to see. He hoped no one had heard his slight giggle either.

Oh crap! Please let this guy send this female to some sort of private quarters. I might be able to knock this one out if she's alone. There's no way I can take on a whole camp though! The kitsune doubled his efforts on staying within Kira's shadow. Determined not to appear back in the corporeal world until he was at least alone with his host, or somewhere he could make a quick escape.

Kira stood in the command tent and waited for the CO to acknowledge her, which was infuriating. Kutsine had been right , the guy was a tightass, so much so that he probably squeeked when he walked.

"Well! I do hope you have written orders concerning your late arrival." The CO said giving Kira a bit of a sneer.

Kira took a document from her pack, "Right here Sir." She said as she handed them over. She may not like the guy, but he was still the one in charge.

The CO took his time as he read over the orders, although he wouldn't admit it he was impressed, it seemed that Doctor Kira Madison, was not only a very good physician, but also a first rate scientisit as well. Putting the papers aside, he said, " It all seems in order, the Med tent is in this area, go out of her, to the right, three tents down. The tents for the Doctors and Scientists are a bit farther down from there. Whoever is on duty can see to assigning you quarters." He said, "DISMISSED."

Kira turned to go, but then turned back, " One mor ething SIR" She said the last word sarcastically. "Soldier Kutsine was the only one that heard my distress call, and she risked her life to come save mine. I have some contacts in very high places, and if I ever hear you threaten her again, I will report it." With that Kira walked outside and headed towards the Medical tent.

Kutsine sat around for about an hour, but couldn't stand it anymore. She wasn't the type to be able to sit around and do nothing, which was probably due to her genetic programming. She moved over to the edge of the bubble and let her helmet close around her head before entering the code to let her through the shield. Once outside, she tossed her hover board on the ground and hopped on it, then grinned.

"Sweet. The ultimate obstacle course right here," Kutsine said to herself inside her helmet. Kutsine leaned forward and she was off in a flash. She began to weave through the trees at high speeds, narrowly missing some of them. "Woooo, barely missed that one!"

Kutsine suddenly came to a halt when she came across a Venus fly trap that was as big as a house. "Holy shit...He has defiantly been eating his Wheaties. What kind of monstrous bugs blunder into this thing?"

She watched in disbelief as the plant suddenly began to move. The plant bent down silently aiming to swallow her up. Kutsine backed away on her hover board as she watched it close its "jaws" on nothing but air. If she had continued to stand there then it would have gotten something, but Kutsine had moved.

"I'll be damned."

High on a cliff not far from the aliens, a pair of red eyes watched Kutsine as she left her camp and flew off into the forrest. She was alone, and not appearing to be headed anywhere in particular.

As he had several times since the aliens crashed here, Korran spread his wings and dove off of the cliff in pursuit of the female. His orders were to stay out of sight and gather information, so he always maintained a high altitude and good amount of distance while he observed. But today, he was going to confront the female. After all, there was only so much he could learn by watching from afar off, especially when they spoke a language he didn't understand and used magic he had never seen before. He wasn't even sure that it was magic, because he couldn't sense anything from it.

The alien was fast, but Korran matched her speed above the treetops. As he suspected, she didn't have a specific destination. Unless her destination was that particular plant. He circled once while she appeared to be talking to the plant and then pulled his wings in and dove down.

With significant speed, he punched through the tree canopy, ignoring the minor cuts and scratches from the branches as they broke on his way down. At the last minute, he spread his wings and landed in a crouch with a solid thud only feet away from the alien.

He eyed her warily, ready to use his magic to deflect an attack should she try one.

Kutsine looked up as movement was detected. She watched something big fall from the sky, then land right in front of her. Twigs and leaves showered down onto them as Kutsine stared at the individual for a moment. The then turned on the com in her helmet and ran the translation program.

"Well, hello," Kustine said in the language Tetro and the other had been using. "Nice of you to DROP in."

She was silent for a moment as she recorded information the humanoid, including his vitals, muscle mass, etc. "So...I suppose I should ask you why you are currently giving me the evil eye. Not like I did anything to you," Kutsine said after a moment.

I suppose he is trying to be intimidating, Kutsine thought to herself. And for all I know, this muscle bound thingamabob may not be capable of speech. I guess I should just stare at him to see who winds the staring contest. OH WAIT! That would be me, because my helmet doesn't blink! HAHA! Score one for Kutsine, hell yea.

Kustine just stood there after that, letting the blue slits in her helmet stare the thing down. That's right Mr. Muscles. Stare at the pretty blue lights.

Korran relaxed a little when the alien started speaking to him. It was Elvish, which he understood well enough to get her attempt at a joke with the play on words. He didn't react to it though, or say anything in response. Instead, he slowly stood up from his crouch. She didn't appear to want to fight, but just the same, he wasn't about to drop his guard completely. He kept his magic at the ready and wings partially unfolded.

He looked her up and down while she stared at him, more interested in figuring out what he was looking at than participating in a staring contest. Even at this proximity, he couldn't detect anything magical about her. He hadn't seen her in a fight, but her armor suggested that she was a soldier of some kind. Or perhaps it was protection from the environment of some kind, the sunlight maybe - could explain why she only took her helmet off inside the bubble.

But it didn't explain how she knew Elvish, or where she came from, or what they were doing here. Time for questions.

"Who are you?" he asked her in Draconian.

((OOC: I don't know what the names of the different languages would be, so I just gave my best guesses. We can change them if you want.))

Inside the Medical tent Kira reported in to the CMO and was assigned an empty tent to use as her quarters. Stopping by one of the supply tents on her way to pick up some clothing and supplies that she would need, to set up her quarters.

Once in her tent she got things set up quickly, and suddenly stopped as she caught sight of her shadow, blinking a few times she shook her head, it looked as if her shadow had tails! Suddenly Kira got a creepy feeling as the hair on the back of her neck and on her arms rose, and she realized she wasn't alone.

Drawing her sidearm she held it pointed upward at the ready, speaking to the seemingly empty tent she said, " Okay, whoever, whatever and where ever you are you'd better show yourself. I'll start blasting and invisible or not, I will probably hit you at some point!"

Tetroneaque was almost at the limit of his magical skill, his head was throbbing as his concentration waned. He could barely maintain his spell as the female whose shadow he was riding within went about her business. It was a blessed relief when she finally entered a tent where she was alone. It seemed that was also the moment she finally detected that she wasn't as alone as she first thought, spotting the tails on her shadow.

Tetroneaque wasn't sure what she was saying, or what the small item she was clutching was. He assumed it was some sort of weapon, but he couldn't tell what it might do. It didn't matter though, he was totally tapped for magic.

Kira's shadow began to ripple like water as Tetroneaque's form slowly emerged from it. It was a rather disturbing sight to one not accustomed to magic. After only a few moments Tetroneaque was crouched over Kira's shadow, which had returned to normal. He couldn't even seem to find the strength to come to a standing position at this point, remaining on one knee. His breathing came in heavy gasps as if he had been running for hours.

"Damn, I held the spell too long. I can't even stand up." He wheezed out under his breath. He stared at the female, the glow from his eyes showing through his mask. He simply stared at her and the item she had pointed at him, unable to do anything more.

Kira watched as the creature materialized in front of her eyes. Wearing a cloak, and covered in purple fur, he was wearing some sort of mask. Even crouched as he was, Kira could tell he wasn't taller than perhaps 5ft.

He was on one knee and seemed to be breathing heavily, as if winded. Kira placed the weapon on a table, but it was within easy reach should she need it. Holding up her hands to show she was unarmed, the Doctor in her came out. " It's okay, I'm not going to hurt you. You be nice and I'll be nice, okay." He wasn't saying anything, and she surmised it had to be a language barrier, as she sensed intelligence in his glowing gaze.

Crouching beside him, she spoke gently and calmly, " Okay now I'm going to remove your mask, it may help you breath easier." She said as she slowly reached out.

"I can't understand you." Tetroneaque stated, pretty sure she wouldn't understand his speech anymore than he had hers. At least she had put the object down, he didn't know why but he still thought it was some kind of weapon. That meant she probably wasn't going to kill him at least. He didn't fear being captured either, as soon as he had regained some energy he could simply shadow step his way out of any prison they had.

Kira's motions and tone of voice were easy enough to understand though. She obviously didn't mean him harm. He simply stayed still, mostly cause he couldn't find the strength to bat her hand away from his mask. He hated being in such a weak position in front of what might turn out to be an enemy. After all, she had been imprisoned in the Royal Dungeon. On the other paw, the Adviser had been saying some awfully suspicious things.

"Maybe I'll learn something if I stick around you." He muttered not caring if she understood or not as she gently removed the mask from Tetroneaque's face. He gave a sort of half smirk toward her.

Kira removed the mask and set it aside, hopefully her visitor understood that she meant him no harm. The face under the mask was almost identical to the mask, which struck her as odd. But because of the language barrier she couldn't ask him about it.

She focused on his eyes, which seemed to show his emotions well enough. Trying to find as way to try and communicate she pointed to herself and said, "KIRA." She said her name slowly, then pointed to him and gave him a questioning look, hoping he ( she assumed it was a he anyway) would understand what she was asking.

Tetroneaque quirked one of his fuzzy eyebrows at the female as she pointed at herself and said a word. It sounded like total gibberish to him, but at least it was short. From the gesture she made he assumed it was some sort of name or title. He didn't bother giving his name to the female. Elves had trouble trying to pronounce his name when they spoke the same language, it would probably be impossible for this being to get his name even if he did give it.

He was still attempting to get his breathing under control, his magic had been quite taxing since he held it so long. So instead of wasting breath or energy trying to talk at the moment he simply made himself more comfortable. He sat down on his haunches, taking the pressure off his knee.

The female was still staring at him. He really wasn't sure how to react. The female didn't seem to want to capture him, which was a plus. Yet, he had no way to really speak with her or even what she was. He'd seen and heard of a great many races during his work as a spy, but nothing like this elf like beings with the small blunt ears.

An idea came to him then. He could at least show that he held no ill intentions toward this being. He slowly reached into one of his many pockets, making sure to not make any sudden movements. He carefully withdrew a small wrapped item. It was a loaf of travel bread. He unwrapped it, then broke the loaf in two. He offered half to the female in front of him and took a bite out of the other half to show it wasn't poisoned or anything. The sweet taste of honey and berries made the bread taste more like cake than normal bread, but the way it was prepared made it keep fresh much longer than one would imagine.

Never met a being that didn't get the gesture of breaking bread being friendly. Hopefully this won't be any different. He thought to himself as he chewed the sweet bread.

There was a brief moment of silence as the computer analyzed the new words that the individual in front of Kutsine was speaking. "Eh? New language. I see. Interesting. There are multiple languages just as there are in humans...."

Finally, the computer finished and Kutsine ran the program. "Who am I? Well, bub, I suppose I could ask you the same thing," Kutsine stated in Draconian. "So what is it you want? Seeing as how you dropped out of the sky to intercept me...or so it seems."

Kutsine looked to the side as she heard a loud crashing noise. It grew closer and closer and Kutsine began to wonder what it was. What ever it was, it sounded big. The ground shook as the creature moved onwards towards the two. Finally a gigantic bug looking thing loomed over head and Kutsine couldn't help but to look up at its underbelly as it stomped by. "Holy shit. We are going to need a bigger can of bug spray," she stated, watching it pass.

She had to look over again as she heard smaller scuffling sounds and blinked when a small heard of smaller versions of the bug broke through the trees. The big one didn't seem to know Kutsine existed, but the little ones did. They hissed and began to circle around them, blocking any escape. Before Kutsine could say anything, one of them shot a large spine at her, which just pinged off her armor and fell to the ground.

"Eh?" Kutsine bent down and picked it up, watching a large drop of something drip from the tip of it. "Trying to poison me? Bad buggies, bad."

Of course, the individual standing with Kutsine was also a target. Kutsine defiantly had the feeling the bugs wanted to make a meal of them. "Sorry guys. I dun think i would taste too good. I may have a crunchy outer shell, but I assure you my insides are disgusting."

More stingers were launched, but Kutsine just stood there, letting them ping off. "Oi...please son;t use me for target practice." She looked over at the winged man that was in front of her, wondering how he was fairing. "Oh right...almost for got you were here. Did they get you?" Kutsine asked, looking him up and down.

Kira saw the creature reach into a pocket and withdraw some type of wrapped cake. He broke it in two and took a bite, offering her the other half.

She took the cake and took a small bite, it was surprisingly good. Kira motioned her guest to have a seat on the cot and stood up. Walking over to a small table she took a couple of cups and poured some water for both of them. Walking back over to her guest, she took a sip from one of them, and held the other out for him to take.
