AfterLight is a text-based role-playing game that is a mixture of both science fiction and fantasy. This means that both high-tech technologies exist alongside dragons and fairies. AfterLight is not quite a free-from RPG. There are a few guidelines that should be followed. There is not, however, a rigid structure such as a points system in place. With that said, there are no major plots put into place that members HAVE to follow. There is the history of AfterLight that MUST be considered, but members are allowed to create their own mini-plots and side stories. Members can even create a major plot if they wish!
AfterLight allows you to create your own species, races, classes, and characters! Any member is allowed to contribute to the story in anyway. This includes adding diseases, terminology, people, places, and much more.

Walking over to the Commander's tent she called out, as luck would have it he was getting ready to walk inside, " Commander, Sir." Kira said approaching.
"Yes Madison, what is it now!" He said sarcastically as if she'd been bothering him constantly.
" Well Sir, I am giving everyone an antibiotic injection to ward off anything that may be airborne that we are exposed to. And I also needto collect a blood sample to see if being here had caused any changes or if we have been exposed to anything. Since you are in charge, it would be a good gesture for you to go first Sir." Kira said hoping like hell be bought it.
The CO simply nodded and said, " Very well, come inside we may as well get this over with." He said motioning for her to follow.
Taking a quick look around Kira spotted Kutsine's armor and helmet in a heap in one corner. Pretending not to notice, Kira set the tray down, put on her gloves and had the Commander roll up his sleeve. "First I'll just take a quick blood sample then give you the antibiotic." Kira explained. Then before he had time to react Kira took the "Antibiotic" which was really a powerful sedative and injected it into the CO. He was out almost immediately.
She dragged the CO over to his bunk and settled him onto it, knowing he'd be out for the night. Then going to the corner she picked up Kutsine's armor and helmet, looking aroubnd she grabbed an empty duffel bag and shoved the uniform inside. Going to the far side of the tent she slipped out of the back entrance, and casually made her way to the hovercrafts and signed one out.
Tossing the duffel into the craft and climbing in, she carefully made her way to the exit port of the perimeter and punched a code into the com panel of the craft. The portal opened and Kia left the relative safety of the camp.
Pulling into some dense cover nearby, she took the helmet and slipped it on, then activated both the translator and the GPS system to locate Kutsine. Since the device would allow her to understand and be understood she said, " Hey Tetroneaque, you still with me pal?" As she set her coordinates and headed off in the direction of the GPS beep.

Tetroneaque popped out of Kira's shadow once she spoke to him, in fluent Kitsune no less! They were in some rather dense cover so he wasn't concerned with anyone else seeing him. He had a great many things he wanted to ask Kira, but he decided to simply start with the first things on his mind.
"Yeah, you can't get rid of me that easily. So, you can speak my language now Ms. Kira? I assume it has something to do with that new headgear." He stated pointing at the helmet Kira had put on. He couldn't help but thing he'd seen that helm earlier. Then it came to him, that uncultured tail puller wore a helm just like that one...in fact he was almost certain it was the same helmet. He decided it must simply be a uniform for their soldiers or something and dismissed the idea.
"At least we can communicate with ease now. Don't think that means I'm not going to still learn your language though, and without any fancy magic hats." He added.
He looked around the area they were flying over. Nothing looked familiar to him here. In fact the flora around here was quite different than what he was used to. Just how far had he traveled from the Castle?
"So, just how far away are we from the castle and what were you doing there in the first place?" He asked, sidling up beside Kira and holding onto the side of the craft they now rode.

Kira smiled when he replied to her and she was able to understand every word. " Yes, this helmet has a translator in it. Once I find my friend, I'll be able to replicate a similar device, but for now there's no time." She answered. " As for learning my language, the same goes for me learning yours, now that we can understand each other it should be easier. I'm not sure where the Castle is, since Kutsine was controlling the hover board we got out on." She answered. " Right now I'm locked on the homing beacon of her GPS implant, she's the one who sent the distress call. The Commander locked her up for some reason, she saved me, so now I'm going to save her." Kira said as she noticed him moving up beside her and hanging onto the side of the craft as it his life depended on it.
" So tell me, what exactly are you and how can you cloak yourself?" She asked, as they sped along, she may as well learn what she could about her new friend.

"I'm a Kitsune of course, in employ of her Royal Highness Absinthe Silverfreeze." He stated. He spoke with a certain awe when he was regarding his ruler. Even mentioning her name sent a little trill down his spine and put a smile on his face.
"As for how I cloak myself, that would be due to my magic." He was starting to get a picture of what was going on. These beings didn't seem to have any actual magic of their own, just items with magic-like properties. Separated from their items they probably didn't have an ounce of magic between the lot of them. This was interesting and important information if true.
"So, what exactly are you if I may ask? You look quite similar to some elves I've met... but not quite." He was quite curious to her answer, as everything he learned would help him out in the future when dealing with these people. Something told him that he was going to be dealing with them a great deal too. His ears suddenly perked straight up as something Kira had said fully registered with him.
"Wait! We're going to save your friend who saved you? You mean the one in the armor that could turn invisible? The one who pulled my tails!?" He seemed quite irate suddenly as he spoke about Kutsine. She had yanked on his tails! She needed to be punished, or at least offer an apology to him. Yet, he had no choice but to help at this point. He was with the tail-puller's friend flying over an unfamiliar land. He really didn't have anything to bargain with. In fact the only reason he was still free was because Kira hadn't turned him in to the others in her camp.
"I'll help, but only for you. That tail-puller friend of yours owes me an apology at the least." He stated quite firmly, not liking the situation one bit.

Kira almost laughed at Tetroneque's sudden irritation. "She probably only tugged at them to distract you, so she could help me. She didn't realize you may be friendly, since she is a soldier, her first impulse is to fight. I'm sure that once she sees that you are peaceful and won't harm anyone, that she will apologize." Kira told him, actually Kira would make certain of it.
" As for what I am, I'm called a human, and I'm a female of the species. My people lived on this planet over nine hundred years ago. We were forced to leave when it became clear that this world could no longer support us. I'm with a team of scientists that came to explore our former home, to see what became of it." She explained. "Since you are a native of this planet now, your knowledge of this world could be very helpful to us. Most of us are scientists, the military is here solely to insure our safety. Don't be afraid of them, I will not allow any of them to hurt you. And I'm sure Kutsine won't either, once we get her free." Kira said.

Tetroneaque listened intently to everything Kira was saying, even though he was watching the foliage and ground speed pass below them. His ears sort of swiveled toward her. Even so he had to strain a bit to hear her words as the wind whipped around them. He was glad to see that at least one of these 'humans' as they called themselves was at least civil to others. Then the rest of what Kira said simply left him awestruck.
"Wait what?! You mean your kind abandoned this world, and now you're coming back? Well, that would explain some of the strange ruins we've uncovered over the years. I wonder if any of the elders know of your kind..." He mused, the oldest kitsune alive was just slightly older than eight hundred years ago. That meant a mere century since the humans had left this world. Maybe the elder's parents knew of the humans? He'd have to check into that once he returned home.
"Well, let's help your tail-pulling friend so she can apologize then." He paused and looked around a bit more. He could see some sort of large metal object ahead of them. He guessed that might be the ship the humans had used to come back to this world.
"Is that where she's being kept?" He asked, pointing at the object in question.

Kira nodded as she slowed, " That's the ship I came in on, I had a system failure and crashed when i was trying to find the main camp." She explained. "There's a larger craft, closer to the main camp, that the others probably arrived in. I was kind of a very last minute addition to the group." She added.
Kira parked the hovercraft and hopped out, she motioned for Tetro to stay close. She hadn't seen any guards, but that didn't mean there wasn't one or two around somewhere. Of course once the ship was closed and locked down, there was no real need for a guard, especially if the Commander wanted to keep Kutsine's confinement a secret.
Giving a small tap on the hatch, Kira said, " Kutsine, it's Kira, are you in there." She didn't need to call out, given Kutsine's enhanced senses, Kira knew she would be heard clearly.

Kutsine was getting rather bored of waiting. She was about to call Kira again when she heard movement outside. That sound was followed shortly by a tapping on the hatch. Kutsine didn't bother to get up and move over to it. Instead she just spoke loudly from where she was sitting. "About time you got here. I was beginning to wonder if you were discovered. Anyway, now the problem lies with getting me out of here. The disabled all the emergency switches, so I can't pop the hatch from the inside," Kutsine said with a sigh.
"With that being said, this is a space craft, so it will be nearly impossible to open it from the outside. Still, there could be a chance. I did notice the hatch was slightly damaged on the bottom left hand side. That might have broken the seal slightly. Try to find something to pry it open with." Kutsine paused for a moment. "It will take a lot of strength and I am not sure a normal human can do it...no offense."

"So what did little miss tail-grab say?" Tetroneaque asked Kira. Even though he could easily make out the sound of Kutsine's voice coming from inside the metal object he had no idea what she was saying. For the time being, Kira would have to act as interpreter for him. At least until he learned Kira's language completely.
He looked over the metal ship. It was odd to think of the thing as a ship that could sail the void between worlds. It just sounded so outlandish to him, even though the proof was staring him in the face. He let his magical senses overtake him for a moment, looking at the ship again. He could feel every shadow in the entire ship. It would be so easy for him to slip through one of the shadows like it was an open doorway. Too bad he couldn't carry any living object through the shadows with him, otherwise it would be so simple to get Kutsine out.
"She had better offer an apology once we get her out of this metal do-hickey." He left off the 'or else' but he was thinking it awfully loudly.

"She says that the emergency switches to open it from the inside have all been deactivated." Kira told him, "She did say that she noticed that the outside seal may be broken, near the bottom. We could try and pry it open, but I doubt I'm strong enough, even both of our strength may not be enough
Maybe Tetroneaque's magic could give her some added leverage to pry the door open, but before she could ask she had an idea,"Hey Kutsine, if I adjusted the beam of my taser could it cut through the bulkhead of the door. I'm thinking it I can cut it or weaken it enough you could manage to kick the door open?" She called inside.
As she waited for her friend to answer, it occured to Kira that whatever they did, it had to be quick. It would be dark soon, and they'd need to find a place to camp for the night, they'd also have to ditch the hovercraft at some point. Once the C.O. woke up, he'd be after Kira's ass as well as Kutsine's. Hopefully they could get Kutsine free and put some more distance between them and the main camp before they had to foot it.

Kutsine considered Kira's idea for a moment and stood. "That might work. Modify the beam for maximum output. However, it will drain the charge very quickly so you will have to cut through it as fast as you can. When you have cut all you can, let me know and stand back." Kutsine said, moving to the side just in case the beam punched through the hull. She didn't want to be cut in half, after all.
They might need the taser later, but if Kira brought Kutsine's gear ans sword, then that might not. Besides, there were other ways of charging the thing if it came down to it. They would just have to get a little creative. "Ready when you are. Start cutting anytime," Kustine said from inside.

Tetroneaque was tempted to help just to make things move more swiftly by volunteering his magic. Yet it seemed Kira had come up with a plan that didn't require his assistance. This was acceptable to the kitsune. Not only would he not have to reveal anymore of his magic to the two humans, but he would get to see some of their items at work first hand. All in all a pretty advantageous outcome for him. Besides, he wanted his strength up in case the tail-grabber was still as rude as ever. He'd force an apology out of her if he had to.
"So, you have an item that allows even one as petite as you to cut through solid metal without the use of magic? I look forward to this demonstration." He said politely to Kira and backed away from the ship a bit to give the woman some room to work.

"Yes" Replied Kira. "It's called a Taser, and it's mainly a weapon, but the beam can be adjusted and I'm going to try and use it to cut through the door." She expalioned as she modified the beam, making it as thin as she could and turning it up to full power.
After warning Kutsine to stand back, Kira began to fire the Taser, running the beam around the oputline of the door several times.
She motioned Tetro to stand back, moving back herself as she said, " Okay Kutsine, try to kick it open!"

After hearing Kira's shout Kutsine took a deep breath. She moved in front of the door and took up a stance, glaring at the hatch. With a swift spin her foot slammed into the door. There were popping sounds, as well as though sound of squeaking metal. Kustine tried again and this time the hatch flew off, with a large dent in the middle of it.
A few seconds later, Kutsine emerged and stretched. She only wore a short white t-shirt and some white underwear. Thought she didn't seem to care. She spotted her armor and immediately began to put it on. She hit a button and there was a hissing sound as the armor shrank to conform to her body.
"Glad to be out of that hell hole," Kutsine said. "Helmet please," Kutsine said holding out her hand to Kira. "We should hurry and get out of here before our friends come and find us."

Tetroneaque quirked an eyebrow as the hatch flew off with an impressive amount of force. The dent only added to his respect for the soldier's strength. He didn't mind the view of her outside her armor either, she wasn't bad looking at all. She certainly wasn't the ageless beauty of the Queen, but he wouldn't deny he wouldn't mind taking her for a tumble either. He shook his head to clear his thoughts, this was no time to be thinking about that. She had pulled his tails! She still owed him an apology!
"I hope she knows she owes me an apology." Tetroneaque stated to Kira before she handed the soldier's helmet back to it's owner.
