THE SETTING
The Where's and Who's.

The small college town of Oak Harbor, Michigan is where our lovely forum is set. The fall semester is starting and it is the end of August. The air is still heavy with humidity, so the students are still revelling in their last chance to wear light clothes.

So you want to join until i wake up, huh? Well, there are some rules and such that need to be read and understood before that can be made possible. They aren't difficult, nor are there too many, so bear with us, okay?

one. Please register with a first, middle, and last name. This is a must unless your person was not given a middle name at birth--if this is the case, then contact an admin after you register but before you apply so we know not to get on your case about it. When registering, use a capital at the beginning of each name. I have, in the past, been a stickler for the all lowercase name, but really? It's gotten old to me, so we're not doing that here. Register your character as you would fill your name out on an application.
After registering, post in the members lounge to introduce yourself before posting your application. Even if your application is not accepted, you could gain friends that can refer you to other roleplays you may like. After posting your application, wait for acceptance before posting anywhere other than the members lounge (not including games or music threads).
two. Please know how to construct a decent paragraph that has proper grammar and spelling. Until I Wake Up is going to be treated as and described as a literate to advanced forum, but we are not like all those other boards out there. Many boards demand the QUALITY and QUANTITY idea, but that's not how it works here. As of right now, there is no word count--thought two decent paragraphs are what we're looking for--and we'd like to keep it that way. What we want is QUALITY. We want to see settings and characters and everything the way you are seeing it your own head. Be descriptive and take us there.
On a sidenote, don't include every little detail of your character's shirt or the doodles on their notebook. We understand that saying this is contradictory to the above statement, but miniscule details tend to draw away from the story that is unfolding in the post.
[two continuted] As we said, we want QUALITY over QUANTITY, but posting one or two lines (sentences) will be considered wasteful and it will need to be edited. Besides, who can respond to a one or two line post and accomplish much of anything?

three. This should be a no-brainer, but it often gets looked over and dismissed. Be respectful to everyone on this forum. If you don't like how something is but can't express that feeling in a constuctive or kind way, keep it to yourself. We don't want drama between members or worse between admins and members. It makes this an unhappy place to be, and no one wants to feel as if they are not welcome. If you are having issues with another member being disrespectful towards YOU (not your character), contact an admin and state your case. We will look into the person in question and look at posts (save them if you think it is necessary) and decide on a course of action. Now, should your characters choose to be disrespectful to each other, good on you. Drama in our made up world is a-okay and encouranged.

four. We'd like to keep the character ratio (boy-girl) even, but we need your help to achieve this. Yes, many schools have a higher percentage of one sex over the other, but we don't want Westwick to be overrun by women or by men. If you start out with a character that is a girl and you want to make another character, please make it a boy. (and claiming you can only play one gender won't fly here, so remember that.) Stay active with both. We don't need unused accounts sitting around and taking up space. In other words, don't create a character of the opposite gender just to make another girl or boy as you wanted.
If this becomes a problem, we will enforce that each account must have fifteen IN-CHARACTER posts before you can create another. We would hate to do this, but if it is obvious that this system is being abused we won't hesitate to put on more restrictions.
[four continued] If you find you cannot remain active with one or more of your accounts (we do hope this doesn't happen often), contact an admin and will delete the account in question.

five. There really aren't that many rules, just a lot of typing. We'll wrap this up soon. Promise.

six. This rule isn't meant to restrict your creative genius, but we do have certain specifications for avatars and signatures.
    a. Both have to have your character featured in them. Your avatar should clearly show who they are so should an individual not look at the face claim thread they know who is and isn't taken should they explore a little.
    b. Avatars are to be 100x100, and signatures should be no larger than 250x500.
[six continued] Also if you choose to use a font color to differentiate between characters, do not choose something that will blind us all or make us highlight your post. It is unkind. The same goes for font size. Tiny font looks nice and neat, but it can be hard on the eyes. Be kind to your fellow roleplayers and make your posts readable.

seven. Lucky number seven. Hah. We've reserved this number for our rule on ratings. We would like our members to at least be seventeen, given our rating, but if you are bound to turn seventeen in a few months, we may cut you a little slack. We expect there to be violence, drug-use, and sexual encounters. If these are things that bother you this may not be the best board for you. While we expect the above listed instances to occur, warnings for explicit behavior are required. If you know in advanced that what you are giong to be roleplaying would not be accpetable to a conservative parent of a twelve year old, please stick a warning (such as {exp}) in the topic description. We do not want to offend anyone here or chase potential members away.

finally. This isn't really a rule, but more of a reminder. This forum was created to be a fun place to create a story. Even with the somewhat morbid plotline. Have fun! Make friends! Let your imaginations soar! And thank you for considering Until I Wake Up as your next roleplay of choice.

chatterbox. As it says above the chatterbox: don't spam, don't advertise, don't harass other members. We will remove it if any of the above become a problem, and then all you have to communicate with each other is private messenging and that's not much fun now is it?
