summer came and took me by surprise
the california sunshine in my eyes
driving with the top down, we sing along to our favorite songs
Halley made her way down the strip-mall, making her way to Michaels. She needed new scrapbooking material. She liked scrapbooking. It was fun and creative and she tended to be into old-people creative hobbies. Halley walked past store after store, groaning as each one wasn’t Michaels. She needed a car. It was frustrating. She needed a car or older friends. This whole ‘being-15’ thing was annoying her. And she couldn’t get a New York license until she was 18 or unless her parents came up here so she could get her New York permit. And even if she did have it, she wouldn’t be able to drive anywhere. Because she doesn’t have any older friends to drive her anywhere/be in the passenger seat while she tried not to hit little kids on tricycles. It was a very frustrating and complicated cycle.

She passed a Tropical Smoothie and shrugged before going in. All this ‘exercise’ was annoying. Halley wasn’t an exercise person. She figured walking around campus was exercise enough. And not having a car. She didn’t go to the gym or count her calories or not eat butter because it was a carb or wake up at, like, 5:00 in the morning to work out for 15 hours like Terrence. And Terrence was loud in the morning. So Halley had to have her sleep mix on loud on her iPods earplugs.

Halley walked into the café and waited in line, looking around. She spotted someone she thought looked familiar, but she didn’t really get a good look and shrugged it off. She just wanted her damn scrapbooking stuff. And smoothie.

put to rest what you thought of me
while I clean this slate with the hands of uncertainty

so let mercy come and wash away
what I've done I'll face myself to cross out what I've become

His arms leaning casually on the counter of the Tropical Smoothie place, Landon flirted endlessly with the girl behind the counter. Rubbing her cheek with the back of his hand, planting a small kiss on her hands, anything to score a night of pleasure with a pretty random girl. "Why don't you toss off that apron and we can head up outta here for a night of... fun." He smiled devilishly. She shook her and pretty brown hair and smirked. "I have to work" She whispered back.

He was about to protest when the door bell chimed. A dark haired girl walked in and took her place in the line. Landon immediently recognized her as Halley Gray. The girl he had been tryiong to hit on for the past week or so. Probably longer than that but she was one of the select few who was immune to his charisma and sexy smile. And it mad ehim burn for her all the more. Dropping the girl's hand quickly without a glance back, he slipped an arm around Halley's waist casually a if he did this so often.

"Hello gorgeous, "He said with a bright smile. The girl behind the counter was watching him with a not so happy look in her eyes as he stood so comfortably in line with Halley.

nothing could go wrong
laughing as we gazed under the moon
you kissed me and it never felt too soon
Halley groaned in her head, realizing who the kid she saw was. Not only was she positive she was gonna be harassed once he realized she was in here, but he was holding up the line and Halley was thirsty. So Halley stayed in line. Because Halley was stupid and stubborn like that. She looked up at the menu, pretending to be deeply interested in the Orange Splash! Even though she thought it sounded like a mix between vomit and orange. Who mixes oranges, apples, and grape juice together? A practically empty smoothie chain, that’s who. Halley slid out of Landon’s grip. “Hey, douche bag.” She walked up the counter and raised her eyebrow at the girl. “You see this?” she said, asking Landon, “You’re gonna get me spit in my drink. Don‘t get me spit in my drink.”

She pulled out her wallet and grabbed a five dollar bill. “Jetty Punch, s’il vous…Patricia.” She handed Patricia the bill and put her wallet back in her pocket. “You really wouldn’t want to make out with him anyway, Patricia. He’s an idiot. He wouldn‘t even remember your name the next morning.” She took her receipt, gave Patricia her name and stayed where she was. No one was ever in Tropical Smoothie. It was always ridiculously empty. Except for, of course, Landon. She’d rather have a never-ending line right now. She looked at the little ads on the side of the counter. Ah, real estate, real cheap. How so very fascinating.
