The City.. A dense and sprawling metropolitan complex which houses not only its citizens but also many dark secrets, unnatural creatures and mysterious ruins. The rule within The City is made by dark deities through their separate Factions.
The Hammerites, who represent Order, and the Pagans, who represent Chaos, make war upon each other behind the scenes. The activities within The City are being watched by the Keepers, those that have charged themselves with the duty of keeping the Balance.

A Balance that might soon be shifted..

The weather has been cold and windy in The City for the last few days and it doesn't look like it's about to let up. Expect rain coupled with heavy storms throughout the rest of the month.

The Sanctuary is a medieval city life RP with fantasy and steampunk elements. The forum is fan based on a location, namely The City. The City is the setting used through the three Thief games. The RP is based on this setting because it is a vast and interesting place, though most of its aspects are simply glossed over in the Looking Glass/Ion Storm produced games. Because it is so interesting and large and because it leaves so much room for free interpretation, it all but screams to be used for an RP.

What does that mean for you? Well, not much. If we hadn't informed you of this and you were not familiar with the Thief games you'd probably have thought the setting as an original one. We've adopted The City as our base, but we've adopted none of its NPCs or story lines. The information you will need to read if therefore no more then the information you would need to on a forum that uses a original setting. By no means must you have played the Thief games to understand this setting. If you read the information on this forum you will know as much as I know about The City, and I've played all three of the games plenty.
